  1. I'll bet there were a number of chaps with dark-tee shirts and close cropped hair taking a keen interest!
  2. "Business Development Dept. confirms iTV still “operational”. Now is the time for all good men to rally to the cause...
  3. One of the two big online retailers ( I will give you a clue, it wasn't Lazada) caught my daughter with a similar scam for an "I-phone from Korea" when she was 14.
  4. Two up on a Honda Wave and B13000 in coins! Must have been an interesting ride!
  5. Since the short clip doesn't tell us what he had been saying, and provides absolutely no context whatsoever, it really doesn't tell us anything. Impressed that he managed "inconsequential" though!
  6. I too am British, and I think it was the right decision! So you see, some wanted it, some didn't. So we put it to a vote. The majority voted for Brexit. Then in 2019 it was the primary question in a General Election. The party unequivocally promising to implement it won an emphatic majority. So we got Brexit.
  7. Followed of course by a General Election, fought largely on the question of Brexit, and which Boris Johnson won emphatically.
  8. Well, they work, and cost an awful lot less. They are capable of operating from relatively short improvised airstrips ( roads). The Swedish Air Force has developed techniques and equipments to allow rearming, refueling and "turn around" servicing without needing the very expensive (and very vulnerable) facilities required by the F35. I don't know whether the RTAF will buy into those skills and programmes
  9. I'm not an American, but I do wonder, what part does the candidate for Vice President play in the voters decision - is he or she an afterthought or regarded as being "on the slate"? As you say, the current incumbent seems competent if unpopular. In the case of Mr Trump we will I suppose have to see which harpy emerges from the probable 3 way catfight, Lake, Boebert or Taylor-Greene. Not a good prospect, but perhaps an entertaining process.
  10. Do airlines actually take passenger's individual weight into account at all. I do remember being in the check-in queue for a BWIA flight to Antigua whilst transiting through the USA, looking around me at some of the mountains of flesh and idly wondering if the aircraft would actually get off the ground! Genuine question, if there is anyone out there who wishes to offer an opinion!
  11. Your post does highlight a much wider problem in the effective choice which seems likely to face the US electorate in 2024. A shot through, bumbling incoherent with, what can charitably be described as definite and rather fast increasing signs of age related cognitive impairment, an utterly amoral, self obsessed, narcissistic with at best no real connection or respect for truth or the basic tenets of his society, let's face it close behind in the geriatric states, and worrying connections with white supremacists and it seems a penchant for organised political violence; or as an outside choice, a good old fashioned authoritarian racist. And we hear British politics described as a mess!
  12. Seems a lot of hassle for a bottle of beer and two glasses...
  13. An unelected (French) beaurocrat laying down the law for the rest of the EU. MEPs doing nothing, except enjoying a no doubt all expenses paid trip to a funeral. Who would ever have imagined that?????????
  14. Yes, I have worked out the same. That said economy of scale suggests something a bit better! The school from which I retired was run by nuns. Whatever the issues/irritants with having nuns in charge (and there were plenty), corruption and skimming by the senior management (nuns) was not one of them; mind you some of the lay teachers were not averse at having a go - purchasing textbooks springs to mind! We would have (and did) manage to provide some vegetables, a sauce and a piece of fruit as well for that price.
  15. I would have thought that the aircraft in the OP photo knows the way - it has been flying one particular route more regularly than a London bus for quite a few years now.
  16. Procurement process "flying under the radar"?
  17. I have a friend in the UK, in fact one of my oldest friends, of 35+ years standing, who some 15 years ago declared that she was "transitioning" from male to female. 10 years ago she had surgery (in Phuket actually) to effect the physical transformation. This was allied to very large doses of hormone therapy ( which resulted in her growing breast tissue - of course they don't function as breasts). The end result was pretty horrific, for the first couple of years she frankly looked as if she had gone 3 rounds with Mike Tyson! Physically, well I have never seen the results, but I understand that her penis and testicles were removed, a (sort of) vagina was constructed, connected to her bladder. This together with the ongoing hormone treatment has resulted in some significant health problems including frequent incontinence. There is no sexual function, male or female, whatsoever. The health problems are quite far reaching, and nearly killed her last year, she requires constant medical interventions to live a normal life. She (I call her that because that is how she identifies, not because of how her body has been mangled) is a very intelligent person. She is in fact a leading barrister in the field of establishing and maintaining the rights of Transgender people, and fighting discrimination. If you follow such matters in the British media you will probably have heard and seen her. Now she identifies as a woman, dresses as a woman and lives a spinster life as a woman. Mentally formidable, although at times obsessed - our friendship very nearly did not survive Brexit! Physically, I am sorry to say, she is a mess - really almost a freak. Changing her physical sex - well she didn't really - has not done her any favours. I would argue, based on what happened to my friend, that if one's genitalia do not match the brain defined gender, no amount of surgery or interventions will help. Before her transition she was not openly (or even clandestinely) homosexual - and I know her as well as most. She has never had any relationships, beyond friendships, either as a man or as a woman. I really think the physical side of her "transgender experience" has been rather tragic, I suspect that, in her own mind, although she would never admit it, she feels the same.
  18. I remember having a quick beer in the transit lounge at Mumbai Airport one night. As I drained the glass I caught sight of the bottom of the glass. I just made it to Suvarnabhumi before Ghandi's revenge struck! Never had a problem with ice or glasses here, but anywhere in India or Bangladesh, only drink from a bottle, and make sure it is sealed when you buy it.
  19. I have an opinion; like many others. I don't think gender can actually be changed, no matter how you "identify", or whatever surgery or hormone treatment one undergoes. How you "identify" and dress is entirely up to the individual. My opinion may be narrow, uninformed or simply different to yours. Either way I, there it is; make of it what you will. I am simply not interested in this argument. It is pointless getting involved.
  20. Good luck to her. However I fear her future will not be that bright - you see she is not parachute trained, which will severely limit her potential as a forensic detective!
  21. Mind you, if you find one in Bangkok for B5000 less, you still have to go to Bangkok to buy it, and then ride it back to Hua Hin!
  22. Yes. It is far more common here, likely the norm, for service staff to greet a customer with a smile, than it is in the UK. It is only polite to return it. It is one of the pleasures of living here.
