It is a daft comparison, and a daft basis for your argument! Your bottle of Evian in Paris was produced just down the road. Your bottle of Evian here was produced in France, loaded into a container, trucked to a port, loaded onto a ship, sailed around the world, then trucked iñto the Thai distribution system. Leave aside any import duties! That is why it is expensive. If you want products from the other side of the world, expect them to be expensive.

Why? It will cost a very large amount of money, to raise a 36 year old ship. In order to determine exactly why she sank? Somehow I doubt that they are that concerned. To refit and put back into service? That would probably, taking into account the salvage costs, cost more than acquiring a newer second hand vessel.

She also seems to be carrying quite a lot of heavy equipment high up - I wonder how much was the original design and how much has been subsequently fitted in various upgrades. Also, how many did she have on board - 105 or so? Where did they put them all?
