If you are looking for a brand new experience that doesn’t involve visiting the beach or the city, then Khao Yai might be the place you are looking for.
The Khao Yai National Park spans more than 2,000 square kilometers and across four different provinces.
The bulk of the park is predominantly in Nakhon Ratchasima province and is about a three hour drive from Bangkok.
The park itself has it all - spectacular mountains, dense jungle and forest, an abundance of nature, waterfalls, lakes, hiking trails and much more.
The main entrance to the park is located approximately 20 kilometers from Pak Chong, the nearest town. The southern entrance can be accessed along a 60km stretch of road that has numerous viewpoints to stop along the way.
As well as the nature, located close to the park is a winery, caves worth exploring and even a Tuscan inspired village.
A word of warning though - unless you are visiting Khao Yai as part of an organised tour, you will need your own transport.

Things to do:
1. Haew Narok and Haew Suwat Waterfalls
You cannot visit Khao Yai without visiting one of the park’s famous waterfalls. Haew Narok is the highest waterfall in Khao Yai, the top of which can be accessed by hiking up the 600m trail.
Haew Suwat is another well known waterfall in Khao Yai National Park and featured in the blockbuster movie The Beach starring Leonardo Di Carprio.
Haew Suwat
2. Khao Laem and Khao Khiau Viewpoints
Take in the best views of Khao Yai by hiking to one of its highest points, Khao Laem (1,328 meters) and Khao Khiau (1,350 meters). Accessed from the southern section of the park you can hike to the top of either within a day. There are a number of routes to the top, which are colour coded depending on their difficulty.
3. Wildlife
Khao Yai is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Sightings of herds of elephants are common and can sometimes be seen without you even having to step out of the car. The park also has thriving populations of deer, macaques, gibbons, bears, snakes, lizards and birds of which there are over 300 varieties. There is also a small population of Indochinese tigers in the park.
It is best to observe the wildlife in the early morning or evening from Nong Pak Chi tower. There are also organised wildlife safaris in the park, while hiking yourself through the forest gives the best opportunity for bird watching.
4. Khao Luk Chang Bat Cave
Another popular place to visit is the Khao Luk Chang Bat Cave. Get there before sunset to watch tens of thousands bats fly from the cave and into the night sky. It’s really quite a sight. The cave is best accessed with the help of a guide or park ranger.
5. PB Valley (Khao Yai Winery)
After exploring the great outdoors in the national park, treat yourself to some wine tasting and delicious cuisine.
PB Valley Estate is situated on the edge of the Khao Yai National Park and is the birthplace of the Khao Yai wine region. Enjoy a professional guided wine tasting tour sampling red wine grapes like Shiraz, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and white wine grapes like Chenin Blanc and Colombard, as well as other varieties at the estate. The excellent on site restaurant serves a selection of Western and Thai specialties as well some fusion dishes ranging from simple snacks to complete gourmet lunches and dinners. More info: https://www.pbvalley.com/
6. Primo Piazza
If nature and the outdoors aren’t your thing, head to Primo Piazza for a taste of Italy, perhaps where you’d least expect to find it.
Primo Piazza brings the architecture from Tuscany to the heart of Khao Yai. Walk around the ground, take photos and enjoy Italian coffee and ice cream. There are even alpacas to feed. A good option for those with young children.
7. Scenical World
One of the newest attractions to Khao Yai, the Scenical World theme park brings thrills, spills and lots of fun for all the family.
Scenical World includes a theme park, water park, kids zone and shopping mall and offers fun for kids of all ages and grown ups too!
Perfect to visit for a day trip after you have explored the national park.

What to do in Trang
Located in southern Thailand, Trang is home to spectacular limestone cliffs, with white sandy beaches forming its magnificent coastline along the Andaman Sea.
While there is a tourism industry in Trang, it hasn’t yet hit the heights of nearby Krabi and Phuket. And that is no bad thing. Trang offers every bit the natural beauty of neighbouring Krabi, without anywhere close to the crowds of Phuket.
Most people who visit Trang head off to one of its nearby islands, namely: Koh Mook, Koh Ngai, Koh Libong and Koh Kradan. The islands in the province are somewhat hidden jewels that haven’t yet experienced the mass tourism of many of Thailand’s other island destinations.
Trang city itself is also worth visiting, if only to sample some of the province’s unique cuisine.
Travel and Save in Thailand:
Click here to see all the exclusive promotions for Thailand Explore
Things to do:
1. Koh Mook
Koh Mook is part of the Had Chao Mai National Park and is located just 9 kilometres off the mainland. The island’s west coast is mountainous with high cliffs and a rocky coastline whereas the east has a flat plain with swathes of white sandy beaches including the spectacular cape at Hua Laem Beach.
The island is the third largest in the Trang Sea, yet is small enough to easily get around on a motorbike, bicycle and also on foot. Koh Mook is home to the spectacular Morakot Cave also known as Emerald Cave, a must-see attraction on the west coast of the island.
2. Koh Kradan
Part of the Hat Chao Mai Marine National Park, Koh Kradan is located 10km off the coast of Trang. The island is part national park and part resort and is generally only open during the high season between November and April.
Koh Kradan’s two kilometers beach is spectacular and regular features in write ups about the best beaches in the world.
While the island offers easy access to top class snorkeling and diving, just going for a swim not far from the shore will let you spot an abundance of fish and coral. Measuring only 2.5 square kilometres, there are no roads or cars on the island, and everything can be reached on foot.
Koh Kradan
3. Koh Ngai
Technically part of Krabi province, this tiny island is located 45 minutes from Trang mainland.
The island measures just 4km long and 2km wide and you can see pretty much everything in one afternoon!
The island consists of a single road that connects two beaches. The waters are crystal clear and the beaches spectacular.
If you’re looking for tranquility and want to spend your days not doing a great deal save for the occasional bit of snorkeling or reading a book outside your beach bungalow, you might just think Koh Ngai is paradise.
4. Koh LibongKoh Libong is the largest island in Trang and while its beaches aren’t quite as spectacular as some of the others in the province, it is still an attractive destination well worth visiting. The island itself measures 40 square kilometres, with large parts of it remaining uninhabited.
The best way to see the island is to rent a motorbike and go off exploring. Another popular activity is to go on a kayak tour in search of the local dugong population - the endangered marine mammal feeds off the nearby sea grass.
5. Wat Tantayapirom Phra Aram LuangGet your cultural fix by visiting Wat Tantayapirom Phra Aram Luang. Located in Trang city, the beautiful Wat Tantayapirom Phra Aram Luang is known for its towering white pagoda.
6. Thung Khai Botanical Gardens
The Thung Khai Botanical Gardens is located in Yan Ta Khao and features botanical and herbal gardens, a botanical library and plant museum.
The highlight of the gardens is the 175 metre long canopy walkway which stands at 18 metres above ground level at its highest point. More info: https://www.tourismthailand.org/Attraction/peninsular-botanic-garden-thung-khai
7. Rajamangala AquariumLocated within the Faculty of Science & Fisheries Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology, the Rajamangala Aquarium is home to more than 61 display tanks, as well as several fishponds and has a wide variety of both freshwater and marine fish and amphibians. Located 30kms from Trang city centre, open daily.
8. Thailand's first rubber treeWhile not a main attraction, it is certainly a point of interest. Trang is home to what is claimed to be Thailand’s first rubber tree. It is located outside the Kantang Agriculture Co-operative and represents the first group of rubber trees that Phraya Ratsadanupradit planted to pioneer the rubber plantation industry in Thailand in 1899.

What to do in Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai is Thailand’s northernmost province and borders Laos to the east and Myanmar to the west. The province is steeped in natural beauty and has a rich history of traditional Lanna culture, which it still retains to this day.

Their dramatic rescue after 18 days captivated the world and put Chiang Rai on the front page of every news outlet in the world.
Today the Tham Luang Cave network is itself a tourist attraction but Chiang Rai’s famous White Temple remains the province’s tourism centrepiece.

Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island, lies in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It's known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas.

Dan about Thailand Vlog Reviews of Koh Samui:
- Why Samui is my top 3 island in Thailand
- Paradise Park on the summit of Koh Samui
- Koh Tan – undiscovered beauty next to Samui
Things to do:
1. Superb Beaches
Let’s start by stating the obvious. The beaches on Koh Samui are world class. The most popular beaches on Koh Samui are:
Chaweng Beach
Lamai Beach
Bophut Beach
Lipa Noi Beach
Maenam Beach
Samrong Beach
2. Paradise Park
A Mountain top park featuring a pool with panoramic views, a cafe and animals, including colored pigeons.
The fun is also in getting to the park up the steep twisting turn roads, plus the views across Samui are simply stunning.
3. Dining
We had to put dining high up the list as there are so many quality places to eat in Samui. Whether you are after the chilled vibes found at Nikki Beach Club, Italian five-star dining at Dr. Frogs bar and Grill, or – well – whatever your taste fancies, Samui has it all.
The Chaweng stretch in Samui is rich in dining choices – you are spoiled for selection. Pub grub, burgers, Mexican, Thai, pizza – it is all there to enjoy.
4. Chaweng Boxing Stadium
At least 2 or 3 times a week this stadium boasts a packed Muay Thai fight card, and the fighters are not just Thais! When on vacation in Samui, watching a Muay Thai fight just feels like the right thing to do!
5. Visit Nearby Islands
The most local island is the least explored by tourists and is called Koh Tan. There are lots of tour operators who will take you there, such as Tour Explore.
If you have time hop across to nearby Koh Phangan or Koh Tao on the regular ferry service, they will really add to your island adventure. Lompryah high speed catamaran service is the most popular option, you can check out their prices and frequency of services here, https://www.lomprayah.com/
Koh Tan
6. Waterfalls
There are a dozen waterfalls on Samui, some easy to get too whilst others require a bit more of a trek.
The best time to visit waterfalls are in the wetter months of September through November, when the waterfalls are in their full flowing glory. Na Muang is a popular place for families to relax and swim.
These are how each waterfall on Samui are rated on Tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g293918-Activities-c57-t95-Ko_Samui_Surat_Thani_Province.html

Samet lends itself well to just relaxing and soaking up the suns ray. On the main beaches like Sai Kaew and Wongduan there are plenty of food vendors walking up and down the beach. Nothing quite beaches some BBQ chicken, Som Tam and sticky rice whilst on the beach!
3. Party Scene
There are two good locations to visit if you enjoy the nightlife and it stretches between Sai Kaew and Ao Phai. Ao Phai is popular with the backpackers so has a good vibe about it. Don’t expect an all-nighter on Samet but there is enough going on to have some fun.
4. Seeking Solitude
Head to the more southern locations of Samet for peace and quiet. Locations like Sai Kaew can get quite busy in peak seasons, which is fine if you like this, but there is alternative options.
5. Kayak
Kayaking around parts of Samet is a nice way to explore sections of the island. Rental rates vary and you can expect hourly and daily rates offered.

Things to do
1. Bridge over the River Kwai
Made famous by the movie The Bridge on the River Kwai the Death Railway Bridge is arguably the most famous landmark in Kanchanaburi.
The original bridge was built by mainly British, Australian and Dutch POWs and was nicknamed the Death Railway because so many men died during its construction. Once built, it was used to help bring supplies to Japanese soldiers.
While not the original, (that was bombed by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1945), the bridge is still in use today and helps to connect the two sides of the River Kwai. You can walk along the bridge and take photos, just watch out of the twice daily trains.

2. Death Railway
After you’ve visited the Bridge over the River Kwai, you can take a trip along the Death Railway route. The trip takes around two hours and passes through some incredible scenery and over a wood viaduct that runs along the cliff edge. Catch the train from Tha Kilen Station to Nam Tok.
3. Hellfire Pass Memorial
The Hellfire Pass is a 500 metre section of rock that POWs were made to dig out by hand during the construction of the Death Railway. 700 men lost their lives in the process. Today you can walk along it and there is also a memorial museum to honor those who died. Both moving and fascinating, a must visit for anyone who visits Kanchanaburi.
4. Kanchanaburi War Cemetery & Chung Kai War Cemetery
The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery contains the graves of more than 6,900 POWs who lost their lives during construction of the Death Railway.

What to do in Hua Hin
Just a few hours drive south of Bangkok, Hua Hin was one of Thailand’s first holiday destinations.
From its humble beginnings as a sleepy fishing village, the resort has been the beachside destination for Thai royalty and aristocracy for more than a century.
Today it is popular for weekend getaways from Bangkok, as well as with international tourists from Europe and Scandinavia.
Hua Hin’s laid back atmosphere makes it a popular choice among couples, young families and retirees. But don’t let the serene pace of life fool you into thinking that Hua Hin is lacking in things to do - the resort has all but shaken off its sleepy seaside image.
From beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants and bustling night markets to inland nature reserves, waterparks and some of Asia's premier golf courses, it’s easy to have a truly memorable experience in Hua Hin.

The beach is great for swimming and generally safe for kids under adult supervision. Kitesurfing and banana boat rides are available for those with an adventurous streak.

The spectacular Phraya Nakhon Cave is like no other landmark in all of Thailand. The ornate green and gold pavilion is hidden inside a cave which you’ll need to trek to in order to reach it. While challenging for some, you’ll realise every step was worthwhile once you get inside.
Time it right and you’ll be rewarded with a stunning scene as the pavilion is illuminated from the natural sunlight above. Alternatively, the cave can be accessed by longtail boat for around 200 baht.

Dan about Thailand Vlog Reviews of Koh Tao:
- Koh Tao – The most beautiful island in Thailand?
- Nangyaun island just off Koh Tao
Things to do:
1. Nangyaun Island
It is a tiny island with a very narrow beach with water either side. It is one of the most unusual and prettiest islands you will visit anywhere in the world. Make sure you take the trek up the mountain to get that perfect photo opportunity!
2. Scuba Diving
There are lots of different scuba diving schools all across the island and prices are very reasonable. Many also cater for casual snorkelers. There is significant coral around Koh Tao so you will be in for a treat.
3. Party
Koh Tao is very popular with young back packers and so if you want to hit the livelier part to the island then check out Sairee Beach. More information on place to party in Koh Tao check out https://traveltriangle.com/blog/koh-tao-nightlife/
4. Dining
Sairee is the liveliest location on the island and has a vast array of places to eat and drink. Away from this location it is quite common, strangely, to find many small baguette/sandwich shops – catering to the young divers visiting the island. You can also eat very cheaply from the many Thai diners on the island. Because the island caters for a lot of back packers and divers, it means the restaurant prices seem a bit lower than what you may find on other islands.
5. Beaches
This is where Koh Tao excels as there are many different bays you can visit and all with sandy coastlines and pristine clear waters. Do take your snorkel where ever you go – as there is an abundance of fish to discover.
