There's a number of translation agents that hang out at the MOFA offices in Bangkok although they are not the cheapest people to use, as soon as you try and enter the building they will approach you and ask. Ditto with many of the embassies, they hang around outside asking people if they need a translation service.
We helped some people in the North get documents translated for the same purpose as you, it cost 500 baht per page as I recall. Be aware that who ever you use, MOFA will require changes to the translation because only they know the exact way in which documents should be translated and EVERYONE has to have changes made! Make sure whoever you use that they will make whatever changes are required, in the initial price.
MOFA has offices in the suburbs and in many towns outside Bangkok, usually in the large Amphurs, that may help you rather than using the main office in Bangkok.

As well as I agree with what you are writing, there is one question that must be posed. Thailand is Suoth East Asia´s second largest economy. They have not reached that level out of stupid decisions. Do you then think that they will be as stupid that they actuaölly reach that point this time?
Categorically no, I do not!
Posters like to slam the Thai government for all manner of things because it comes from a military base. But their economics track record is pretty sound, they are overly cautious at times but they have still managed to grow GDP at a decent rate for the past four years and I fully expect them to pull through the current crisis. The way they do that may offend the sensitivities of some of our less seasoned and more fragile members but nevertheless, as you say, they are the second largest economy in the region and they didn't get there by being idiots or by luck.

So your pompous OP requesting the removal of emojis from the forum because their use upsets your sensitivities was a deliberate waste of time just intended to disparage other members who choose not to engage in your threads?
If you object to certain member's posts/comments/attitudes so much, just report them.
You didn't get it, did you! The thread was not about objecting to peoples posts and what they had written, it was about the use of emoji's as a proxy for what they could have written! Perhaps try reading the thread again.

Yes, they can but no they won't, why should they? Maybe Thaivisa should introduce a "Supercilious" emoji.
Funny, at least you helped one person understand what supercilious means.

I conclude from these pages that emoticons probably serve a useful purpose, if they didn't exist many people wouldn't have any contribution to make whatsoever and TVF would cease to exist.
I also get the idea that the majority are in favour of short sharp exchanges that don't involve too many words or much mental effort. The minority who want to and can explain a subject in detail are going to be the subject of good natured banter with many, as in this thread, bordering on mean spirited attacks.
It looks as though, for the most part, Posting Content and General Conduct Rules are ignored or no longer apply, points 7, 8, and 9 seem to be ignored, especially the idea of treating other posters with respect.
Many thanks for your inputs, it's been interesting.

Rather than compare what's available, why not consider which tests you need based on your lifestyle, age and sex, otherwise you risk paying for unnecessary tests that really aren't relevant. A good family doctor will help in this respect. Be aware that many hospitals use the health check as means of selling on further tests and procedures.
Perhaps if you were to profile your self here then people such as Sheryl could advise which tests you should have?

Personally, I shun the 'political' threads or the 'general interest' treads that just feature funny (?) tongue-in-cheek comments on News articles. And as to be expected, the amount of pettiness and bickering on those threads is just stunning.
Unfortunately some of those keyboard warriors that have little or nothing to contribute like to extend their battlegrounds also to the more serious sub-forums like the Visa sub-forum or the DIY sub-forum.
Several people I know that can really contribute, have become desillusioned by the Forum in general and refrain from posting because of all the negativity. I have to admit I am also on the brink of 'opting out' because same as @bestie remarked 'I really can't take this anymore'.
There's a core of troll like posters who seem determined to make life miserable for anyone who posts regularly on serious or semi serious subjects and many people suffer because of them. Some of them even hold grand titles, personally I think many of them should be banned otherwise the forum will become unusable. Hang in there and try to ignore them, your efforts are appreciated by many.

We know of several who have crossed the border with Myanmar and have been going back and forth away from the checkpoints, the total number is a lot more than 3,000 I'm sure.

And you certainly know about silly comments do you not!
A question for you Colin: I know from your posts that finance and economics are not your thing and either don't hold any interest for you and/or you don't know much about the subject, that's fair enough. Similarly, I'm not interested in one liners, throw away comments, dropping poo bombs on government or building dry stone walls. Those things being true, why would you bother to post exclusively sad or confused emoticons on subject matter you don't understand and haven't read? Just curious.
bump @colinneil
not that I expect you will answer of course, how can you!

OK well, I have to go do stuff, I'll be back later to deal with the poo bombs.

So somebody tied you to the chair at your PC, propped your eyelids open with tooth picks and made you read this thread, that's tough, I'd live somewhere else if I was you!

I don't know, I might agree, so far I haven't been able to understand what you're talking about and despite prodding you still haven't made it clear. You don't like long answers, I get that part, short attention span and no big words or joined up writing, hmm, not everyone feels the same way, it's called respecting the differences!

It's really simple. Readers don't agree or agree and don't want to a long winded discussion with you. You appear to have a misplaced ego.
Now you can award me a negative emoti.????
"A misplaced ego", what is that pray tell?
You see I asked you a question in order to find answer to something I don't understand, much better than clicking an amohi and never finding that answer...far better all round.

Not really, I'm curious to know what others think about the subject which is why I posted, if I don't find out I shall go back to reading about economic issues in Asia and attend a meeting or two.

Emoticons are more meant to be like casual remarks. Don,t put too much meaning into them.
In truth this is more about a handful of posters that another poster alluded to earlier than about emoticons themselves..

Is there an emoticon for bad English....doth protesteth should be doth protest, in my second person singular understanding anyway. But if you disagree, give us a sad or confused. 555
In the original version of Hamlet the word is written as protesteth and has only fairly recently been modernised to protest, even some stage production still use the olde English version.
"In Act III, scene II of Hamlet, the prince's mother dryly utters one of the most famous lines penned by Shakespeare, "Methinks the lady doth protesteth too much." The phrase has come to mean that one can insist so strongly that something isn't true that people begin to suspect that it is".

Possibly but I don't think I am, as I said earlier this is a gnat that buzzes around the head size of issue rather than a fighter bomber attack.
I know from what people have written here and previously elsewhere that many posters find emojis aggravating and annoying, mostly it's about context. Being allowed the freedom to post nonsense and banality unhindered on topics that interest them demands those same posters reciprocate when others post on serious subjects, yet that coin hasn't dropped with many folk and probably never will.

Thai fence said to prevent illegal crossing
in Cambodia News
Posted
There have been fences and barricades all along the Thai/Cambodian border for many many years, they are two separate countries and there needs to be some form of line of demarcation. During the last days of the Khmer Rouge, the Cambodian army pushed the rebels back as far as the fence and we all watched as the two sides fought it out on TV. If that fence hadn't been there the rebels would have fallen back into Thai territory and the fight would have continued there and that would have involved the Thai army and a much bigger battle.
So yes, the Thai people did agree to that fence, not least of all because it confirmed where Thailand started and stopped and where they could live, something that has been a problem for many years as borders have moved.
