not such foowittery. I know of a farang who was arrested and deported for painting his boundary fence. Needless to say he had been giving Immigration grief, and this was there get square. So as others have said, keep your head down and make sure you don't upset anyone. TBPH I wouldn't do any work, even what you are proposing as retirement visa clearly states "Employment Prohibited". That includes voluntary work, paid or unpaid work, and anything that takes work/employment away from a Thai.

For they knew that you would even take away the breadcrumbs that fell to ground. They knew your next move so they are taking preemptive moves.

Just like Trump wanting to take preempt nuclear strike against China. lol

What part of the borders are closed do these people not understand?????

It's not that they don't understand, they are hoping against hope that somewhere the border is not closed properly, they could just sneak pass it after paying a little mooney to the border guards. Have you seen the accommodations of the border guards in south of Thailand? Miserable looking they live there with their families you know.

I really would like to give them a little tipping if not for those cameras inside the buildings. My sympathy is always for those who work for peanuts.

No border runs.  Fly, extend visa or hope for amnesty extension.

Yes, JacksSmirkingvengeance, no border runs. I just went today(11 Sept-Friday) to Hua lamphong train station, behind the counter the Thai lady with a sour face like a wrinkle lemon said, "Border close train only go Hat yai".  At once my face which is ugly became more ugly from what she said and it also leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I immediately felt that I have been in this make believe kingdom for far too long and now woken up to reality- the ultimate reality so to speak. (fookit)

  4. "The Tyranny of the English Language." I hope Thai government will introduce French language in Primary school. Well, sort of pilot project.

The English Language has killed off many other languages in many 3rd world countries, English is adopted wholesale- they let their dialect or mother tongue died- speaking only English at home.

The French language should not be deny of their rightful place in the sun.

    Anyone disagree?

The Tyranny of the English Language is a small book I am going to write. It will trace the English language from a humble dialect on the Thames river to its present day. How it has a stranglehold on the world today. My books( translated version ) when put on sale in Paris will sell like hot cakes. Well, the french with their narcissistic love of their language will be intrigued by the title of the book. "La Tyrannie de la langue Anglais".

  5. Is this a country where people snoop on you and report on you?

If this is true then these people really haven't got better things to do.

They wouldn't spend their time to improve themselves so they may have some financial gains. Instead they spy on you, report you and take delight in seeing you get into trouble?

Disgusting. Just small minded, useless people.

Let me just ask a simple question. If I find my neighbor spying on me, would it be ok if I pull my short so low that my buttocks are showing. Not exactly "Moon" them(that's the slang for display of buttocks), but mind you, I am within my private residence so you cannot say I expose myself can you?

So if I grow my own foods it is considered working is it? Just too many wavkers in this country.

  6. What i am going to say may not be correct or misleading I am not sure. So please hold your shotgun don't blast it point blank as I have said beforehand I may not be correct.

There are many countries I would not even think of riding a motorbike. Thailand being one of them. In Asia I would ride a motor bike only in Japan, because I had lived there long enough to know how they drive there.

What I don't understand is why ride a bike in Thailand?.

In Japan it is very safe to ride a bike, I don't know about Korea because I never live there before.

I met a German who works for the BMW in China, he said to me, "The most uncivilized driving you can find is in China". Again I never live there so I am not sure if that is true.

Why take the risk, is it worth it? Of course the argument goes it is an accident everywhere you go there are accidents. Accidents and reckless careless driving are not the same thing I supposed.

I will ride a motorbike in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and England. I lived there long enough to know the ways people drive there, my risk is a lot more lower than many Asian countries.

Can you not rent a car? Or perhaps arrange transport during certain hours of your need?

A friend of mine said his father forbid him to ride a bike when he was a teenager. A wise father who saved his son life or limbs or becoming paraplegic.

I was a male nurse in a hospital for spinal injuries. I saw a lot of sufferings  among mountain climbers and motorcyclists.

You need to work in spinal injuries unit to know it is just not worth it.

I think the British government should put notice in the subway that says- If you love your kids, tell them to promise you they wouldn't ride a bike while on holidays in Thailand.

I don't think you can put things back on the shelves without moving your arms, which would make the items under your armpits drop to the floor, unless it's intentional.

Oh, no, it's not intentional. I often go about in a dreamy state, like going to the car park where I park the car yesterday but today I parked the car near to the car park but not in the car park.

I went to the car park and couldn't find my car then later realized I didn't park there.

I believe 7/11 lost a couple of things in a year because I walked out without paying and not even remember that. well, God makes me do that didn't he?

  8. Are properties really that cheap in Thailand that you are willing to pay good money and use a Thailand citizen name to buy a house or whatever.

It seems ridiculous to me. I will never do that. If it's not in my name legally it doesn't belongs to me and in the court of law I have no say.

I would rather buy properties in Singapore or Malaysia where you use your own good name in the purchase & sales contract. If you are careful and shrew in Malaysia properties often appreciate and you could even make some money . All contract and legal document in English language.

Thailand is just for fun, you live here you rent and you leave when you have enough. As for investment, Singapore and Malaysia are top choice.

Can't wait to stand in a queue where a guy pays his chewing gum with a foreign credit card

There was a time I put something under my arm pit and forgot about it and when I saw the long queue I put the things I was holding in my hand back on the shelf but forgot the one under my armpit. I walked out and later

discovered I had walked off with stuff without paying.

Is that consider theft? i didn't go back to return the stuff because I was afraid language would bangle my good kind heart.

  10. Is it true that if you are a training pilot for airlines before you sign up for the training they want you to sign a legal binding document agreement that you will not be allowed to ride a motor-bike. If you break the agreement they will terminate your training.

They don't want to waste lots of money training you as a pilot then you die in a motor bike accident.

I was told about this. Anyone knows.

thai superstition ... if a crow visits your house... someone will die

if you catch a crow then secretly left it (tied up of course) in someone's house while you pay them a visit does that work,  someone in that house will die?

May be the occupant of the house became so agitated or worried that he or she died of heart attack.

Isn't rape an act of aggression and hostility rather than lust?

I may be wrong - some are called rapes because the victims after voluntarily took off all their clothes later said they didn't want sex, later made a police report of rape.

From my personal experience many years ago my lady friend was with me in the hotel we were completely naked enjoying the foreplay and when I try to penetrate she said no, she didn't want sex. So she cried after she was forced by me to have sex.

I then told her if you go home now and your mum asked you why you were crying and she wanted to make a police report then I would be put in prison for a long long time.

I was lucky because she called her mum and told her she would be sleeping in her sister house that night and wouldn't be going home.

I learned my lesson and never repeat such stupid act because don't forget the court judge has not sympathy whatsoever for you. Your whole life would be ruined completely.

I wish that the Prime Minister would please allow retirees back.  We are not tourists.  Tourists come at their own leisure and convenience.  As expat retirees we are desperate.  6 months stranded abroad.  Still paying rent in Thailand and abroad.  Sleepless nights filled with anxiety and losing hope.  compassion is needed.  Please expand ASQ facilities and help us get back.

Would the Bangkok Post publish a letter with all the names of expat who wish to come back to Thailand? A letter requesting the PM to let them return to their wives and children.

  14. I am not Thai so I cannot get much informations due to language problems.

But I do believe Thai businessmen who put their money in 7/11 know that if they failed in the business there is very little sunken costs.(sunken cost are install structure that cannot be removed if you quit the premises).

They just remove all the fridges and cupboards or even lighting fixtures. They may have paid for renovation for floors and walls. But that's peanuts.

No sunken costs means no heavy investment.

By all mathematical calculations the risk is worth it. Anyway, those businessmen who are in this game are super rich, what they put on 7/11 is such small money investment but the return is good. Better returns than when they flew to Macau Casinos to try their luck, in the long run that is.

If the shop gets busy, money comes in non-stop. The one next to my guesthouse in Bangkok is open 24 hours and always customers in there.

If you try to open a shop selling the same stuffs you will most likely fail because Thais are so used to going to 7/11 they wouldn't notice your shop.

My guesthouse owner owns 4 of this 7/11 in bangkok, i guess he is printing money.

  15. Please, please don't ever ask the Thais to make bread or pastry.

People who normally put the least effort into doing anything cannot possibly make good breads or pastries.

Good delicious breads or pastries are made by people who are proud of their job and take pride in making good quality products. I have not seen such people in Thailand rather unfortunate I must say.

I have eaten a couple of nice thai dishes but generally I find them rather disappointing. Just watery , watery stuff here and there. Using lots of factory made paste or ingredients. Mind you, I am talking about middle-level class restaurants- not those fine dinning types.

You know, if you don't know how to make sauce you are a failure in cooking.

Making sauce is an art- the french have master that art. Well, the Italian too. I am not Thai bashing , please, I need to speak the truth(at times the truth hurts) and in the art of cooking you do need to be honest.
