  1. Why is this even news? Government officials to get iPhones replacing 4 year old units. Big deal.
  2. Investment at that level is control. Why not? They are willing to pay. Sport lost its amateur status years ago. The teams are still in the home countries as are the stadia.
  3. So it's OK for Editor of The Pattaya Golfer, Thai Golf News on line, Principal at Big Mango Productions and Executive Producer at Tee Off TV show as a foreigner, doing business in a host country to comment on foreign involvement of sport clubs in the UK. I call hypocrisy. The comment "God forbid if we have to get used to Wimbledon’s iconic tournament being called Jeddah Championships!!!" is pure racism. Britain is, and has always been open for investors of any nation.
  4. Good news. The more they talk about this the better it gets. In the past couple of years, we have had CBD and Krathom legalized. It is only a matter of time before recreational marijuana is legal. Now, lets' talk about the attractions of a tourist destination like Thailand ... with legal weed, shall we?
  5. The Dark Ages? Thailand was the first country Asia to legalise medical cannabis.
  6. HH is affordable to locals. The Thai people that go there made up 76% of the total tourist arrivals in 2019. The locals filled up the three star and upwards hotels in HH to 90% occupancy last holiday weekend showed by their actions that the prices are OK. Many Thai people have money and it does not take that many people to fill up Hua Hin rooms.
  7. LMG is the Thailand arm of Liberty Mutual, one of the top ten insurance companies in the world. It's Bluechip. Don't worry.
  8. It's been like that for months @ LHR. Just walk through the door. All the self isolation and testing is/was your own responsibility if you came from a Yellow country. If a plane comes from a 'red' country, then everyone is met at the gate and gets taken off separately.
  9. If people want to travel, the $100 for 30 days insurance is not going to put them off. If people want to travel, a PCR test is not going to put them off. People just are not ready to travel yet and the program has only just started. How many people actually say 'I'm going to Thailand next week, I'll book now"? Last week they were waxing lyrical about 90% occupancy in HH in 3* and up hotels.
  10. Given that they only announced, officially, that Thailand was opening a week ago, I see it highly unlikely that hordes of foreigners would have immediately made bookings to travel. Oh, and arranged insurance, and arranged a PCR test. Patience please. It is going to take many months for people to start travelling here in reasonable numbers.
  11. And food, shopping, beaches, jungles, water sports, scuba, trekking, culture, upmarket resorts, cheap guesthouses, music, clubs, art, temples, history. Most tourists don't spend their time with prostitutes.
  12. The situation is bad enough without the article having to exaggerate about the time period. It's not 'almost two years'. it's just over a year and a half - end of March to beginning of October. A year and seven months plus a few days.
  13. The only difference is the health insurance, which another announcement explained that foreigners who are working and make social security payments are also excempt. So, if you are part of the Thai welfare state, i.e. citizens and those who pay contributions, you will not have to have insurance cover because you are already covered. Is that discrimination? If a Thai tourist goes to the UK, can he walk into a hospital and get free treatment? No, because they are neither a UK citizen nor part of the welfare state. Same story.
  14. Many small businesses, especially guesthouses cannot get a SHA certification because they are not registered and have been operating illegally. SHA is only available to legitimate businesses, not the grey economy, sorry folks.
  15. Remember Thaksin Shinawatra? In 2002 his populist, democratically elected government, started the first round of attack against alcohol, banning sales in the afternoons and in shops along highways. There was also a ban on new bars opening in 22 provinces. That remained in place until the last coup, when the military asked the provinces if they wanted to maintain the ban.
  16. That is not the science. The vaccine does not only mutate in unvaccinated people. The vaccine REPLICATES faster in vaccinated people which allows more chance of mutation. There is a far greater chance of spreading if you put lots of people, especially drinking, where people are relaxed, close together, huddled up, dancing etc in one space.
  17. Good news. Now get off your keyboards, stop complaining, and wait for the official announcements.
  18. As do many of the other 85% who don't work in tourism - they send money home too. It's not just to Isaan either.
  19. And how does that affect someone retiring from a lifetimes work who wants to come and live here? What has the military government done to make life harder for retirees here any more than any civilian government? Outside of Covid type restrictions - nothing. Visa requirements change all the time, nothing to do with military.
