  1. You are looking at the wrong ANZ section re charges..    3%  is charged in the in stance  you are overseas from your home country and use  your credi card to make a withdrawal on y our  home account, (plus tlhe receiving  bank charge,  usually 500 baht in Thailand(      Thats  the normal fee   most banks worldwide charge Im told.

To make an Intermnational Money  TRANSFER   (as distinct from on overseas TRANSACTION)  the  ANZ bank charge is  FREE if sending less than A$10,000,    or  $32     for  other amounts  .  It is always best, Ive found to send  in Australian dollars,  as  banks in Oz   have  low exchange rates..   OK            your fee is $32...   plius 500 baht     in Thailand bank charge.

  2. I paid  6600 baht for wife and I to St Marys private hospital in Korat back  in August last year.     We were   at  that hospital  In January  and saw     long queues of people (all Thais)  there, Wife asked whats happening, She was told   they were getting their Moderna shots.

I went and asked at the administration centre  when we were likely to    get  ours.    Was treated with abs olute disdain and told simply....later..     Still waiting, no word at all.   Wife has been told still hundreds  going there, but Thais only.  (No we are not  racist, we just dont like farangs)

  3. A spokeperson for the Thai Police has announced that, if, and when, the two Canadians are located and detained in another country, Thai police will be sent to  seek their extradition to Thailand,  and  on  the way to whereever that may be,, the same officers will detour via Dubai, UK,  France,  USA,  Australia  and   whatever  country they can also think of, to also locate the red bull heir,,, honest.

  4. The Equal Opportunities Act  , amongst other  statements, prohibits  any discrimination  based on age.  If a person  reaches retirement age and  decides to  keep working,  their employer would need to find a damn good reason, outside that Act, to get rid of them.    This is one reason  a number of companies , when taking on a new employee,  now places them on contract. A  contract, at its   previously stated  expiration date, need not be renewed, should the  employer not wish to do so, bye bye employee, no   reason  for non renewal of the contract need be given.         I used to wonder why I started see so many small.,  or elderly,    (  in    modern day":correct" langauge,,    vertically challenged  or   senior persons)) police officers around in my country, till   this Act of Parliament was  pointed out to me

  5. I  declared myself a non resident when I departed Oz.     the only assets I now have there  is  my bank account, , my superannuation fund  and   shares in Australian public companies.

Interest  earned on my bank account is taxed at 10%.      Dividend earnings pay me   a fully franked sum,  that is   tax  has been deducted at the company rate of 30% prior to me receiving  dividends.     That   30%  is     kept by the government.   Were  I   still an Oz resident, I would be able to reclaim that  monies back  on my annual  Income Tax return.

In short, if  your are non resident,  the tax rate applicable  is  10%  on  any bank interest, and 30% on all other earnings,  franked or unfranked  shares,   rental income   etc...     For those   live  overseas  and   sometimes, or pehaps never return to Oz   and do not declare   their non resident status, simply because they may  retain an Oz bank account, or own and rent out a property etc, I fear they live in jeopardy,  the  Taxation  Department  may assess you as non resident at any time, and will take steps to recoup  any  unpaid tax  they deem you owe,  even if that means placing a garnishy order on  any  accounts, shares or property you retain in Oz.  It has happened  numerous times past.    It is simply not worth the risk..   This   idea  that a 6 month  absence each year is sufficient is simply untrue.     This info has been given to me by  my nephew , who, sad to say, is an investigator with the Australian Tax office.

  6. A tragedy that a man   is driven to end his life. May he find some peace now.

As for Thai woman having a Thai boyfriend,  amongst  the several  cases I know of personally, the saddest is  regarding a  very good friend of mine, who died some years ago

He was married to his Thai wife  for over  25 years, bought  her a house  at the darkside of Pattaya, another  in her village  way up North, and another for her mother alongside that one.  Bought  a new pickup  every few years, gave the wife  thousands of baht weekly  for her own use (she  would drink a carton of Heineken   each 2 or 3 days, and  bought cartons of beer and cigarettes for (cousins??).    She was a simple  village girl, had  never worked for long, he met her  waitressing  at a mates of his hotel.        She was good hearted, looked after   her husband well, but was not the sharpest knife in the kitchen.   Always stated when her husband died( he was quite a few years older)  she would NEVER  re marry or have anything to do with a Thai man.   Six months after hubbies death, I ran into  her in Pattaya.    She had a  younger Thai guy  wrapped around her.  She was extremely embarrased at being caught out, but admitted  she was in the process of selling the Pattaya house and moving, with the lover, back to her village.   My mate  received 2 pensions, he was a retired Army officer,  and   also on an age pension.  On his death  the wife   was still entitled to one of those pensions, plus free medical care for life, the pension,  some years ago, was then  about US$20,000 annually, indexed  I was told.       The Thai guy certainly struck it rich . .He looked a bum without 2 baht to his name. My oldmate would be heart broken if he  knew.

  7. To Hammer, querying why I  put a  "confused"   against  his   post.  Another   reader has already answered    you.   Please  re read    the   original post, the guy    stated  quite cleary his  thoughts,  suicide    was  on his mind.  For   using the monikerHammer, you must be a sensitive little sole to  get upset at criticism.

As   for           seemingly    destructive comments          o n this firum,  we must remember  quite a lot of us   are no longer in the    prime of youth,  and  can get bitter about life as we age. However I do feel    most of the posts appearing here  are from people  who do like this country, and its people, but  are bitter about practices and laws  that  treat  the  average Thai   person badly, to say the least, and are discriminatory     to not just us farangs, but the  poor  Thai person as well .    The nature of  Thais is not to criticise or complain, thats considered bad manners, whilst    farangs reserve the right to complain  against injustice and corruption, is that  wrong?

  8. I am of the opinion  that  the statute of limitations only applies  if no  action has commenced against an accused person.

Should a   warrant, or indictment  been issued, alleging a crime,  the  statute of limitations  does not apply, and the matter stays in existance until such time as the accused person is  captured, if ever.,  as "an action"  has legally commenced.

So in this case, if a warrant or indictment  for  the little flea  be in existance,  there is no time limitation.      Does anyome here know  if there is such documentation in  existance, I have never seen mention of  same.

If indeed a "red notice"  has been issued by Interpol,  there would most definitely  be   either one issued by the Thai authorities, as a "red notice"  requests  any police  agency  locating the accused to arrest him immediately, on a "provisional warrant"  issued in the   country where found, until    Thais authorites attend    that country with the original document, to then seek  the accuseds extradition.          Also it is not always  imperitive that    any two countries  have an extradition treaty in existance between them,  the government of the country where an accused  may be arrested, can grant the release of the accused to  authorities of the seeking country.  This has been done  several times in the past.
