Just now, Pottinger said:
Nothing particularly unique here, department stores are increasingly an anachronism in modern retail worldwide. A cursory glance, even in a first-tier Chinese city, would confirm that the model has had its day. I would not expect any of the major Chinese operators to try it in Thailand, they are already bleeding cash in their domestic enterprises. The trend now is far more towards shopping malls with individual and chain shops, with the risk spread.

The key is for him to check in for his flight, get to immigration and sort out his status, pay the fine and depart, without being apprehended. He should definitely not risk checking into a hotel with an expired visa in his passport. Your friend should do everything he can to make a private arrangement for the night before departure, or travel from where he is already staying direct to the airport.

It's crazy.
It's very simple, if you don't have the money, the elite of Thailand doesn't want you and your dirty ways, you are beneath contempt.

It's those thirty-nine Chinese - they're doing multiple daily buffets all over town.

What is this fatal attraction between Thai drivers and concrete poles?

Your first port of call should be his embassy. The Thai authorities will be almost useless without some inducements, and even then there's a good chance they'll just trouser them and do nothing.

What a supremely stupid remark.

Good idea, the mainland Chinese are now so conditioned to obeying Big Brother, they won't object to 24 hour CCTV surveillance, ankle bracelets, chip implants and shackles.

"....three friends of his who were from the UK and stuck in Hua Hin during the height of the pandemic..."
Surprised they didn't expire from Hua Hin Terminal Boredom Sickness. Still, good to see that hubs are back on the menu; one does appreciate a good hub.

TAT is running a prototype Turing machine with half the valves missing, that's the only explanation I can think of.

More nonsense, it seems nobody is able to think a problem through; even if Thailand drops its quarantine requirement, Chinese citizens are required to quarantine on return from overseas.
So how would this rehashed proposal solve anything?

Thailand can soon look forward to hundreds of thousands of Chinese noisily slurping, expectorating and hacking, all the way from Kunming to Korat and beyond. What joy!

On 10/11/2020 at 3:54 PM, ThaidDown said:"Lots of Thai banks went bust" I do not think so. The only one I actually remember was Bangkok Bank of
CrooksComerce which was taken over by the bank of Thailand and nobody lost money. It was not the Thai banks that got hit by NPLs as most property companies had borrowed from overseas banks as the interest rates were less than half the 16% in Thailand.
After the crash companies had to find almost double the amount of Baht to service their loans so it was companies that failed not Thai banks.
"At the peak after the crisis, nearly 50% of the banking system's loan portfolio was made up of NPLs".

I recall too that two-thirds of finance companies went bust, by some measures all. I was working for one at the time.

Farookin' ridiculous! Three million Baht earning 0.1% in a Thai bank plus another half million doing nothing in your home country - just how anxious do they think people are?
Expect a lot more condos to come up for sale.

This is what I've been missing so far this year - a good, old-fashioned Thai crackdown. Now what about a few more hubs and some more police rushing to the scene....? Some pointing wouldn't go amiss.

Well, this catastrophic loss of face will simply have to be denied, obfuscated and swept under the world's largest carpet until forgotten.

It would be merely appalling if this were an isolated incident, cutting short some young lives and condemning others to life-changing injuries. But this has been an almost daily occurrence on Thailand's roads for decades, and still nothing but the most insignificant cosmetic steps are taken to remedy the situation, to the point where some might say those in power are guilty of culpable negligence.

Fortunately I shall be smoke in the local wat's chimney long before a Thai train driver, wired on yaa baa and eyeballs swivelling, manages to derail one or these suckers at 250km/hr.
