  1. So if memory serves me rite, you go upstairs at suvarnbhumi to do security. You the head downstairs back to the immigration. Is it around here where you do the reentry permit ?
  2. Hi would appreciate some help - i keep getting told that it's possible to get the reentry permit at the airport. Where abouts is this in the airports? I am obviously asuming it's before immigration, but where abouts? I am definately not keen on booking anywhere if i can't get this, as it means my exisiting visa will be cancelled. How long do you wait to the permit also ? Appreciate the help !
  3. Pretty much this. Not only 1.4 billion Chinese, but also 1 billion Indians pretty close too. Thailand is in a perfect location. However, the country itself is not what the citizens in those countries aspire to travel too. Both Indians and Chinese want to go to Europe or America. So you end up with the crap leftovers, or dodgy money guys. You then calculate is it worth so many millions coming to your own country, at the expense of living conditions for your own population to accomodate them. Singapore and Malaysia both take a more conservative approach. They don't want to be swamped with them.
  4. If they do pay for it - then there will be cuts to other departments. Which department do you want cutting? Health? Education? Or do you want tax rises? You still haven't explained to me how this will not cost the taxpayer anything if done correctly. Can you just enlighten us on this one. I get my gas / electricity bill once a month - and the bottom there is a pretty large 'green levy tax' that has been added. Moving aside from payments - what about the ensuing limitations this will eventually lead on our lives? My parents already having to pay Ulez charge just drive their car to a supermarket - ALTHOUGH I DO AGREE WITH ULEZ in principle in scapping older polluting cars (see the horrid polluting old busses here in Bangkok), but you know those cameras aren't going to go away. You will eventually be charged to pay to drive, etc Then as most of us are living and associated here with Thailand - how do you feel on the proposed curbs they will put on our travelling or increasing taxes heavily on flights? It's a slipper slope that we aren't being told about. However, on the principle of cleaner air i am fall for it, and willing to make sacrifices myself - even pay extra tax.
  5. Green taxes? Subsidies to pay for the heating pumps that will come from taxes. The infringment coming on flights, etc I'm bemused how you say their is no 'cost' when done correctly. Can you enlighten me further how their is no costs.
  6. We all want cleaner air. However, leaders must be honest about costs. If you ask people they want cleaner air they of course will say yes. If you tell them they will have to scrap some of their cars, buy newer electric cars - some might say no. If you then go on to tell them that they will then have to pay to drive in certain areas (Ulez, green zones, neighbourhood zones) alot will be annoyed. If you then tell them they will have to get rid of their boilers and then install heat pumps at a cost of thousands most will be pretty annoyed. If you then tell them they will have further curbs on their lives - eg flying and taking holidays. Eventually when you lay it all out - that 100% that originally said yes, will now be down to low single figures. Personally having been in Thailand, and inhaling the disgusting traffic fumes we have here in Bangkok, i do welcome some measures here in Bangkok. It's absolutely horrific.
  7. Surely the next step after giving the Chinese free flights, would be to pay them to come. The SHEER effort they put into attracting Chinese tourists is astonishing, compared to how little or nothing they do to attract Europeans, Americans, etc
  8. Do we really need a week by week commentary on how many chinese tourists have come ? For crying out loud. How about they route at corrupt practises (taxis, etc) and make it a better enviroment for European / Australian / American families to enjoy? But nah .... CHINA. Being in China, they view Thailand as a budget destination. The real love for well up Chinese is to go to Europe for a holiday. By sheer numbers they will get millions of Chinese tourists. However, this in turn turns off well spending foreign visitors from other countries.
  9. I think a major factor to complicate all this - in the west we all tend to use keys. Most tennents tend to change a lock - you can essentially take the same size lock out and replace it with something similar, albeit it a different key. In THailand most condos use a card and a code on the door (for newer condos too). The code aspect leaves you vulnerable to past guests if the landlord doesn't change it, and the card entry system means it's very hard to override it.
  10. Yeah because why should a tennant worry about a dodgy landlord just walking in on them, or someone having their code to let themselves in the property. How dare a tennant worry about basic safety.
  11. What's a bolt? Naturally will have to do something.
  12. Landlord needs to give notice to view property. That has nothing to do with the locks. What about previous tennants who may know the code ?
  13. So i have 2 people saying i have to grim and take it, and that Landlord basically has a code to get into your appartment. One guy says i should EASILY get it changed. Hmmmmm
  14. Guys quick question. We noticed when we went to look at appartment, the landlord could place his hand on the door sensor (when you put the card), and some numbers would come up and she typed in a code to get the door to open. I didn't like this. Do i have rites to change this number, or would that be wrong ?
  15. Thailand has become the United States of China. Let's be honest it's now just become part of China.
  16. Everywhere i go, you can't help but see all these skin laser shops, with the promise of beauty. Anyone had some treatment with these? They have many different lasers, some that reduce wrinkles, some that clear acne, some that brighten your face, etc Now these lasers aren't like many of the lasers in the UK where they remove the top layer of skin (ablative). Instead the lasers here in Thailand are the 'heating up' type, and you return to work pretty much straight away. Anyone with some info, tried out?
  17. Newer condos are a bit more programmed with the sublet. Everyone it seems is an agent though ! I was talking to one lady, turns out she was an agent for cleaning condos, but here she was showing me around a condo she found online. She was actually very good too.
  18. Seems pretty genuine. If your tennant dosn't pay, keep hold of the security desposit. You have a months rent in advance. Kick him straight out if he is late. Furthermore why aren't you inspecting your property at least once every few months ?
  19. Then what is the point of the 2 month security bond ? What is the point of taking a rent one month in advance ? Were you doing this ?
  20. A months rents in advance, and a two month security deposit. Maybe a reference. I am already agreed to the one months rent in advance, and the two month security deposit.
  21. I am aware you get the obligatory 'landlord wants to know what job you do' question when you look at a condo. Yet today, i have been asked "what job do you do", "owners wants to know what business you have in the UK", "owner wants to know income", "owner wants to know address in the UK", "owner wants to see this and that" etc I am almost laughed in disbelief. Despite the fact they don't even verify anything and i could say anything, i just find it all rather disgusting and a complete invasion of privacy.. I know the answer - walk away. But i just find it all rather frustrating, after agreeing price and preparing ourselves mentally to take the property on (which has been empty for a long time).
