  1. Thanks for the useful information gents, seems easy enough to do, I will leave to go back to France ( I have a small house there) probably April next year and apply for a non O using my Irish passport and then start the process when I return to Thailand, yes OJAS I hold an Irish passport, I got my first one many years ago when I was living in California, my immigration lawyer there suggested I got one so I could enter into the ‘visa lottery’ program, I entered the lottery program and I got pulled out of the hat for a green card, it didn’t alter the immigration process much but I certainly jumped the queue which saved me a few dollars in lawyers costs and time , i looked at the application for an Irish passport in Thailand, as you say it seems a lot simpler than the Uk application, plus my Irish passport lasts 7 years longer than my Uk passport.
  2. Hi all, i recently got my non o visa based on retirement and the one year extension will run untill end of may 2023, this is in my Uk passport, but I have dual nationality as I’m also an Irish citizen as my father was Irish, I see that the Irish embassy does still give letters confirming your pension income that are suitable to be used for immigration purposes, my questions are 1/ does this letter make things easier to use the income method for retirement or marriage visa as opposed to having 800,000 / 400,000 in the bank 2/ what would the process be to change to the Irish passport? I assume that I would have to let my extension of stay expire then leave Thailand and re enter on the Irish passport get another non o visa and start the process again, or could I simply turn up at immigration and get my next extension put into my Irish passport? sorry it’s a bit long winded looking forward to any help
  3. Maybe try scrubbing the doors with a bit of an abrasive cleaner….I think as long as it’s clean people don’t take too much notice…I’ve been looking for a condo to rent in Khon Kaen , they are cheap enough but they all want a minimum 1 year rental, I only need a place for 4 months or so..good luck cleaning the place up
  4. I arrived on January the 15th 2022 the checks etc done at the airport were efficient and done quickly, same as the transport to the hotel, it was dealt with very efficiently and quickly, I arrived on the test and go scheme which at the time reqd an overnight stay in a hotel and a PCR test on day 1 I was then allowed to check out the next morning after a negative test and then had to do another PCR test at a government hospital on day 5/6 or7 the only thing I would be concerned with now is that I’ve heard that the insurance companies are no longer providing cover for asymptomatic quarantine, when I booked my insurance I was covered for asymptomatic quarantine…me personally now I wouldn’t take the chance if I couldn’t have got asymptomatic cover.
  5. I went on Wednesday and got my 30 day visa waiver extension for another 30 days, there is a woman on the left as you go in sitting at a desk and checking your paperwork she was helpful and she was an immigration officer, I got the woman at desk 2 and as people have said she is cute, service with a smile I reckon I was in and out in 20 minutes and on,y two people in front of me.
  6. Wasn’t there some discussion on here on another thread where there had been an immigration memorandum issued the basically said that covid extensions would only be issued with a good reason? I’m in virtually the same boat, I’m off to immigration on Wednesday to get my 30 day extension, this will take me up to the 13th of March I would then like to apply for a covid extension before I finally do my non OA visa application based on retirement, but I’ve been told the application can take a while to sort out, what I don’t want to do is get my 30 day extension then two weeks into that go for a covid extension only to be refused and then running out of time to my non OA visa application
  7. Thanks for all the replies and information gents, puts my mind a bit more at ease, I’m off there next week to extend my 30 day visa waiver for another 30 days then I will begin the Non immigrant OA visa application..
  8. Great news, thanks for the feedback gents, hopefully things will go smoothly
  9. @DrJack54 staying in my girlfriends house, she owns it out right
  10. Hi all, anyone have any experience with Khon Kaen immigration it’s going to become my local immigration office, just wondered what they are like to deal with, I know each officer will treat you differently but just wanted to find out what they are like generally, I will be applying for non O end of March
  11. Hi all, sorry to post this as it’s no doubt been done to death, I have searched twice on the forum for an answer but whatever I type in does not throw an answer up, I arrived on the 30 day visa waiver and want to extend it for 30 days am I right in saying I need my passport, TM30 and TM6 paperwork anything else required….I know I have to fill a form in I’m guessing these are at the immigration office, I’m going to immigration office in Khon Kaen. thanks for any help
  12. My return taxi to the airport from the hotel was 95 baht the food looked like something from 7-11 just cheap ham sandwich and a piece of fruit the best meal was the evening one where I actually got something hot to eat…regarding price of PCR test I don’t know what the price is in Thailand but I guess that was the bulk of the extra pricing
  13. I don’t know what the logic is behind this new version of test and go, I came in on the 15th January 2022 on the ‘old’ test and go it was a good process on arrival everything done efficiently including the shuttle bus to the hotel for my 1 night stay as soon as I arrived at the hotel I was met by a nurse who done the pcr test, I was then given a small plastic bag with my breakfast in it ( horrible ham sandwich and a plastic chicken sausage) then I was taken to my room on a golf cart…I got in the room took a shower sorted my paperwork out and then had about 6 hours sleep, I woke up and lunch was served and later that night dinner was served then I got a call saying my pcr test was Negative and I was given that test paperwork when I checked out in the morning, all I had to do then was go to the public hospital in Khon Kaen on day 6 and get my second pcr, it was all relatively easy, this current test and go seems crazy asking you to stay in a hotel for your day 5 test…all I can think is that the hotels are making money out of it, my one night stay in the hotel in Bangkok cost me 4,800 baht when I looked on booking .Com the same hotel was charging 1,500 baht a night outside of the test and go scheme, the hotels will certainly be rubbing their hands together
  14. Another update from me…no notification on the mor Chana app girlfriend called the hospital and they said the app wasn’t working all the time ?…now got to go back to Khon Kaen hospital tomorrow to get the paperwork….another parking nightmare
  15. Thanks for the update it’s always very useful to hear of others experience on visa and extension matters
  16. Bit of an update, I went to Khon Kaen public hospital, parking was horrendous but the process is very efficient the testing is done under a big white marquee type of thing, I sat and waited to be called forward to hand over my passport and pink slip I had to put these into a plastic bag, the nurse there didn’t seem to know what the process was so got someone to show her, my documents plus a slip of paper the nurse put in the bag then disappeared up the line, I was told to sit in another waiting area untill my name was called I then went to another nursing station picked up my sealed documents bag and was told to go to booth number 1 (there were three booths) sat on the chair and had my nose swabbed the swab was handed in a sealed tube to another nurse who then took my girlfriend number and said the results would be phoned through to her or on the mor channa app, she really didn’t seem to know which…anyway it was efficiently done and free as I said the only problem was the parking.
  17. Thanks for the replies gents, I scanned the QR code on the pink slip and that generates a list of hospitals none of them are in Khon Kaen….I will have a look at the links you have all supplied. At the moment I’m going on Thursday to pay fir a private test.
  18. Hi all, I arrived on Saturday the 15th on the test and go scheme part of the requirements is to get a PCR test on days 5-7 after arrival, when I e checked the hospital list the nearest place to me is in nongkhai…I’m in Khon Kaen so it’s a fair old drive, just wondering if it’s ok to pay for my own test or do I have to go to one of the hospitals on the list? I don’t want to pay for a private test and it doesn’t get accepted because it’s not on the government list
  19. Hi gents, these E visas, I’m guessing if you are successful in obtaining one say the non O tourist one valid for 90 days, are these emailed to you or posted to your home address? And is the non O visa extendable?
  20. I checked in for my Thai airways flight to Bangkok from London Heathrow on Friday morning, all check in wanted to see was Thailand pass QR code and my negative PCR test, she didn’t ask to see my Thailand pass insurance or anything else….I arrived at swampy at 05.45 Saturday morning, the Thailand pass people only asked for Thailand pass QR code, negative PCR test before boarding flight and my one night test and go hotel booking, they also never asked to see my insurance,I got to immigration and he just wanted my passport my TM6 (filled in on the plane) my Thailand pass QR code and my hotel reservation, he also never asked to see my insurance…I’m happy to pay for the insurance but it was never asked for at any stage of my journey, I will also add that all the process at swampy were smoothly run and efficient, also the quarantine hotels were being run like clockwork no messing about and very efficient, for those of you wanting to go down a few levels to the BTS station to change your money up….it ain’t going to happen from baggage reclaim it’s all roped off and you are funnelled into the quarantine hotel area which is at gate 10
  21. I just checked in at LHR this morning for my flight to Bangkok under the test and go scheme, at check in the woman only wanted to see my passport and my flight ticket and the Thailand pass QR code, she never asked to see my proof of insurance (of course I had it ready to show her) strangely enough I checked in on a one way flight ticket ie..LHR to BKK I had used a company called one way fly to purchase a flight out of Thailand within my 30 day entry but she never asked to see any details of a flight out of Thailand…I guess I’ve got it just in case immigration ask to see it at swampy
  22. @scorecard I just bought 30 days cover the length of cover and age were on a sliding scale I didn’t check above my age (61) for cost
  23. I bought my insurance for Thailand pass from AXA I bought the policy which covers me for asymptomatic condition as well as showing symptoms there are cheaper policies offered that do not cover asymptomatic conditions mine was 2,250 baht
  24. Right, just to put things straight here, particularly those implying I don’t have the funds to put in the bank…I sold my house in London last year and got a good price for it, so I bought a small house in France, I’m moving to Thailand but the longest myself and my girlfriend have spent together is 4 months..I’m not prepared to put a large sum of money into a Thai bank account under those circumstances, I invested most of the money from the sale of the house into two funds medium to high risk, in one year those funds have returned over £17,000 in profit, yep I do lose sometimes but not often, if I can get a visa and then an extension of that visa so say 15 months, I will within that time know if I’m doing the right thing or not, at that time I will do things by the book but for now I’m going to use an agent and that’s my choice.
