Motor bikes just don’t bother looking, looks like the pick up driver never even braked and why swerve into oncoming traffic? Road awareness here is dismal, I like the people driving around the accident, nobody stops to try and help….

Khon Kaen Opens "Blue Lagoon": A New Enchanting Tourist Destination
essex boys replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
In any other country in the world this would be just looked upon as a water filled abandoned quarry, here in Thailand it’s called enchanting and given a status of tourist attraction…no doubt foreigners will be charged a sizeable fee should they want to visit this ‘enchanted’ place… -
The Costco here are called makro the one in Khon Kaen isn’t far from the bus terminal and immigration office in Khon Kaen I don’t have the exact address but if you went on Google maps to find the bus station or immigration you can search around and find makro I think there’s a cockpit tyre depot nearby as well. well, thanks for all the answers and suggestions guys, certainly got food (pun intended) for thought

Hi all, we have three dogs two were soi dogs and pretty much became ‘tenants’ on the land when we were building the house and finally moved in with us when the house was finished in July last year, the third dog is a pup the result of the two soi dogs having a bit of ‘fun’. anyway we messed around with different types of food for them, the first being Thai food left overs mixed with leftover rice, they would eat it but they didn’t enjoy it, so we tried buying old chicken bones and scrap meat from the local market, the dogs loved this but we didn’t enjoy chopping up the bones and cooking them and the meat so the dogs could eat it, so now we buy 1KG packs of frozen dog food from Costco they come in various flavours like chicken, beef, lamb and pork these packs are 33 baht each and the dogs like them mixed with a bit of rice so one 1KG bag does the three dogs their breakfast at 7.30am and then dinner at 6pm, I have recently started adding beef or chicken stock to the food and mix it up, the dogs enjoy that, but is there anything else you feed your dogs? That’s relatively cheap

Recently done my yearly extension, all the paperwork in order I didn’t have to wait long to be seen nice friendly woman IO dealt with me, all stamped up for another year, there does seem to be a more young people at the front desks these days maybe that’s the reason it seems friendlier and more efficient…all my dealings with Khon Kaen immigration have been pleasant and efficient

Well I hope the guy recovers from this accident, I’m going to guess he was an inexperienced rider, in the Uk scooters are limited to 50cc and a top speed of 30mph (48kmh) you have to pass a test if you want to ride anything over 50cc and l’art of that test is a course in riding skills in an enclosed compound and then in the road with trained instructors, so I guess he jumped straight onto a 125 cc scooter without much riding experience, no crash helmet and almost certainly not covered by his holiday insurance ( if he had any) because they normally exclude motorcycles and scooters from the policy….inexperienced riders will rent a scooter here and hope nothing happens to them, because they are on holiday…lessoned learned here.

Local expat needs help after motorbike incident
essex boys replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Hope the guy gets on the mend soon, I’m covered on my wife’s health insurance because she is a government employee, but I also have ‘accident’ insurance from Bangkok bank who I bank with this is pretty good insurance and covers you for accidents like this, maybe he should have taken out insurance through his bank -
Thanks nino3 I will look it up

Hi all, just be careful when ordering your food, one shop I was using had been overcharging me for goods and even charged me for delivery twice, to be fair when I confronted them about it they refunded me, I’m so used to trusting people that I rarely bothered to check my invoices, of course I got the usual ‘did you order from the latest price list’ <deleted>, I ordered from the latest price list you gave me so I assumed the prices were correct, only to be told the prices change at point of sale!! And another company who are proving hard to contact have charged me for two items that weren’t even packed in the box. Start checking your deliveries people as you are probably getting ripped off but you are unaware of it

Australian Resort Boss Murdered While at Work in Krabi
essex boys replied to webfact's topic in Krabi News
A very sad but not entirely unexpected turn of events, I’ve had 5 years of my wife’s family wanting this and that can they borrow money, can we pay for their scooter repairs, can we buy school uniforms and shoes for the kids and on and on it went, now I have lived here for two years I put a stop to all of it, and now with the exception of her brother, none of the family talk to me…as soon as the money and support stops they just cut you off! I’m not bothered by it and don’t really care to be honest, as a foreigner here in Thailand you are only ever seen as a cash cow. -
@kwilco you need to re read my post, I said scooters pulling out onto a main road without looking, I drove in California for 8 years and more recently in france for four years so I think I’m pretty well educated regarding turning left or right on red lights. Also trying to find where I said I was angry I don’t need to analyse what’s going on around me, you need to be able to read what’s been posted correctly.

Sad that these people died, but I’ve been driving in Thailand for almost two years now and they just don’t give a toss about safety, regular occurrences are scooters pulling out of side roads onto main roads without looking or stopping, scooters without headlights or taillights on the road in complete darkness hoping you will see them, cars cutting corners on junctions instead of positioning them selves properly, I was following a saleng the other night it was impossible to overtake him because the junction was fast approaching, he had no light at all on the saleng, next think i know the impatient driver of the Toyota pick up behind me decides to overtake me, completely unaware of why I was driving slowly, as he overtook me the saleng decided to make a right turn, no indication, no brake lights, and no headlights or taillights, did he get wiped out by the overtaking Toyota pickup? Yes he got wiped out….did I stop?, no, I kept on going before the police turned up and put the blame on me as a foreigner. Unfortunately many Thai people cannot be educated it’s to late for them, let’s hope the younger generations can make changes to save lives

The Eva flights are not direct, from france it’s Charles de gaull airport to Vienna, connecting in vienna to Bangkok, and the return to france is the reverse
-
Hi all, got to plan a trip from france to Thailand and return, Eva air are offering the lowest economy fare at the moment, just wanted to check on their reliability etc as I’ve never flown with them are they ok….they seem to get good reviews.

Putting marriage visa in a new passport
essex boys replied to essex boys's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks mrbojangles that’s good piece of information, I hadn’t taken that into account, but the Irish embassy issue a letter for immigration confirming you have enough funds to meet the required 40K baht a month…I’ve done a few 90 day reports now and haven’t been asked to show funds with a bank letter -
Hi all, apologies if this subject has been done to death, I’m a Uk citizen and hold a Uk passport and I’m here on a non o based on retirement, I’m also the holder of an Irish passport ( obtained because my father was Irish) my extension renewal date is the 24th may 2023 I’m going to renew that extension as based on retirement, at some stage this year I will get married to the gf, is it possible to leave Thailand in say December this year to have Xmas with my family in the Uk, then return to Thailand and enter on my Irish passport and get my extension based on marriage stamped in my Irish passport, I want to use my Irish passport as the Irish embassy are at the moment still issuing letters for immigration to confirm I have funds every month to meet the monthly income method of 40,000 baht. when Ieave to go to the Uk I will not get a re entry permit so it will kill off the extension based on retirement, do you think it’s best to apply for a non o based on marriage from the Uk using the e visa or should I just enter on a visa exempt 30 days and then apply in Thailand.. any help or advice greatly received

Why is Thai immigration so <deleted>ty?
essex boys replied to gejohesch's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Immigration just doing their job, they have the right to ask you questions and request your travel documents regarding your travel to and your stay in Thailand, it’s no different than any other country, and even if your paperwork is correct they can still refuse you entry, even those that live here are not guaranteed that their yearly extension of stay will be approved. But now you are here enjoy your stay -
From Wikipedia Origins of the term[edit] The English dramatist Philip Massinger used the phrase "black list" in his 1639 tragedy The Unnatural Combat.[2] After the restoration of the English monarchy brought Charles II of England to the throne in 1660, a list of regicides named those to be punished for the execution of his father.[3] The state papers of Charles II say "If any innocent soul be found in this black list, let him not be offended at me, but consider whether some mistaken principle or interest may not have misled him to vote".[4] In a 1676 history of the events leading up to the Restoration, James Heath (a supporter of Charles II) alleged that Parliament had passed an Act requiring the sale of estates, "And into this black list the Earl of Derby was now put, and other unfortunate Royalists".[5] Edward Gibbon wrote in The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (1776) of Andronicus that "His memory was stored with a black list of the enemies and rivals, who had traduced his merit, opposed his greatness, or insulted his misfortunes".[6]
