  1. Sounds like a great deal. Last week I get my TIN, paid 10 baht for two stamp duties.
  2. Just a quick update about my trip today to Thalang revenue department, Phuket. In the morning I made a call to office, to ask what documents are required for foreigner to get Thai Tax ID. Copy of passport, visa, last entry stamp, lease agreement, tabian baan, landlord tabian baan, landlord Thai ID, 1 year statement from Thai bank, marriage certificate. Just few hours later all the papers were in my possession and I went to revenue department. To my surprise office was completely empty. Thai lady took a look to my documents and started to study my 1 year statement from bank. They were surprised that I had transferred only 150k to my bank account last year, so they asked me to explain where are the rest of money is coming from. I showed receipt from Wise of 2023 with a lot bigger transfers and that was accepted. Also I had to explain all the smaller deposits to my account, but 99% of them were from my wife`s account. Few more questions about my employment and why I need Thai tax ID. I said I want to open brokerage account and for that I need Thai tax ID. All together it took about 40 minutes, I received my Thai tax ID, and P.N.D.90 form, which officer filled all by herself, officer also registered me to online system, gave me password for this and said see you next year. 0 baht paid.
  3. Im not sure if its official rule or just some immigration offices have this age limit, but friend of mine in Phuket told me few months ago, that language school director said in Phuket if you are over 50 you can`t get ED visa.
  4. When few months ago I applied for Non-O based on marriage (converting from visa exempt) I got stamped in number of my application which I can use in Phuket immigration website to check my application status (approved/under processing/denied) and a tiny stamp with word Non-O, nothing else. Visa and and other stamps I got about 6-7 weeks later, but for retirement it should be faster.
  5. You could apply for 60 day extension to visit your wife if you haven`t used it already, that will gives you enough time to season funds and no need to exit country and start all over again with applying for new Non-O visa.
  6. I will disagree with you. By the rules one have to have 400k in bank account two months before applying for one year extension. There is nothing said about one should have to keep balance over 400k after. Yesterday I got my one year extension, volunteer just took my passport and bring it back to me after 10 minutes with stamp in it. However when I applied for extension I asked to senior officer can I drop my balance bellow 400k while I`m under consideration period and the answer was - yes I can, but better to play it safe in case something is wrong with my paperwork and they might ask again to see my bank account balance.
  7. He could apply for multi entry Non-O visa based on marriage in Laos. Don`t need show funds there. Only inconvenience is that he has to leave country every 90 days.
  8. As DrJack said, doing your extension after the trip would be safest route. You could apply before your trip, but in that case there will be some questions why are you leaving country while under consideration stamp. In both ways you will need reentry permit anyway.
  9. Also I would recommend to ask your IO how many Kor Ror 2`s they need. I was asked for two originals from amphur, IO insisted that original+copy would not be accepted.
  10. Yes you have one, but every year for new extension you will have to get new one from amphur to basically prove that you are still married. Every immigration can have a bit different rules, in my case in Phuket Kor Ror2 can be up to 180 days old.
  11. He will need a power of attorney to do TM30 in person, but that seems unlikely if landlady isn`t very cooperative. Also in Phuket I was asked for chanote, all together it took me three trips to immigration to get my tm30 done, just didn`t want to bother my landlord who is 75 years old man and Im not sure he even knows what that tm30 is.

    Moving to Korat

The answer is no, I would not move to Korat if Im not married to her. But on the other hand Phuket was never a place where I wanted to spend rest of my life. Yes, its nice here, I live 800 meters from a stunning beach, but when years go by it does not mean too much for me, Im going to beach maybe 4-5 times per year. Also I grew up in a little town with about 8000 people there and spent a lot of time with my grandparents in a country side where nearest neighbour was about kilometre away. So its a not a big deal for me to move to lets say a little bit undeveloped location. I enjoy fishing, hiking, camping and other similar activities in a country side. You might be older and more experienced than me and giving me a good advice, but I still feel its right decision and it didnt came just like that. Me and my wife have been talking many times about this and she never had pushed me to make that move.

    Moving to Korat

Wife is 37, Im 34. Her parents are close to 70, but working all their life in rice field did some impact on their health. I agree that Phimai gets boring very quickly, its just not much to do there. However Korat made a great first impression to me, food was great, cheap beer and kind local people, have some nice bars with live music like Tawan Deng. Maybe I should ask where are majority of expats community located in Korat?

    Moving to Korat

Hello folks. After 10 years of living in Phuket, me and my wife decided it would be the right time to relocate to Korat. The main reason is her parents getting old and father has dementia so she wants to stay closer to family. Also Phuket getting quite expensive and russian hordes make me sick. Family lives in a little village in Phimai district which I visited a few times and really enjoyed my time there, however I can`t imagine to live there. So we came to a compromise to move to Korat city which is about 70km away from her family. Im in my mid 30`s and I would describe myself as a not demanding person. I`m looking for a safe, quiet area where I can rent a detached house with little garden up to 15k/month. I prefer a little bit outside crowded areas and decent gym would be big bonus for the area. My wife suggested me few areas where to look, but since she has not lived there for a very long time I would like to hear from an expat point of view what areas I should look for. Also I know there are concerns about flood so please tell me what areas I should definitely avoid. We mostly cook at home, so Makro or some markets would be nice to be not far away. We dont have a car, because in Phuket I dont see any practical reason to buy one since island is small and with motorbike its more convenient to avoid traffic jams, but what about Korat - to have a car there is a must? Sorry if its hard to read what I wrote, English is not my native language, still learning.
