  1. Yes. I agree. However, at the time I needed a 15 inch screen and did a bit of research and then found a new chromebook for sale on bahtsold. The price was extremely cheap and I used it for 5 years. It was a learning experience but I was happy enough with it and I didn't have to do the tasks of running anti virus programmes etc. etc. I then bought another chromebook and am using it now, but it does have problems such as this and I'm now getting extremely frustrated with it. So I'll give myself a kick in the pants!! Meanwhile, thank you for that link. It was extremely useful.
  2. Thank you. I need instructions on how to save the photo to my device. I take the photo with my smartphone and it appears in my "Photos" album from where I usually save it to Google Drive (Which I am now finding too complicated for this old man!). I need to know where, if I save to my device (chromebook) can I find it....where does it go to? And will I be able to then send it to an email by clicking on the paperclip icon in the email?
  3. Thank you amexpat. I have always just used the "Share" option which is shown at the bottom of the screen of the photo and this gives me an option of "Drive". so I click on that and the photo is sent to Google Drive. I don't know how to put the photo on the desktop. Can you talk me through that please.
  4. Hi all. I use a Chromebook. I am having difficulty uploading a photo of my passport to an airline in order for them to to amend my name on my flight ticket. I have taken a photo of my passport and shared it with Google Drive. The photo appears in Google Drive under My Pictures but when I try to upload it in an email I have this problem....I click on the paper clip icon in the email to attach a file and Google Drive opens up BUT the photo of my passport is nowhere to be found. I have tried to take another photo and share it with Google Drive again but this time I have changed the photo (file) number to "My Passport" It appears in Google Drive and I have moved it to a sub folder "Important images of personal documents" under "My pictures" It appears there in that file when I access Google Drive normally, but when I try to attach the file(photo) to the email, the photo is nowhere to be found. I am so frustrated now by this. Previously I have been able to attach files with no problem. Could it be something like the file size is too big? If that is so, I need instructions on how to reduce the file size please. I am at my wits end after trying so many times, hence I have turned to this forum for advice and help. Regards, thoengthaied.
  5. Thai people promising to call you back, but they never do.
  6. To the OP...I called the UK Department of Pensions yesterday at 15:30 Thai time (09:30 UK time) using Skype and connected immediately. No problems apart from having to wait about 5 minutes for them to connect me to the right department because of a high volume of calls.
  7. I have no time for this thread now. I was expecting some sensible answers to my questions but I should have known better.
  8. Thank you, Moonlover. Excellent for me, rather than all the puerile nonsense others have offered! Jeez, there are some plonkers on this forum. And you all know who you are. Your mummies are waiting to tuck you into your cots.
  9. I am far from a novice on computers but I need some basic info please....I had used a Windows computer and laptop at home in UK from 2000 to 2004 when I retired and left for warmer climes, and I was used to using them. When I arrived in Thailand I needed a new laptop and saw a Chromebook advertised on Craigslist (new at around 6,000 baht) so I did some research on Chromebooks and finally bought it. It seemed, and was, a powerful machine with 15 inch screen and very cheap. I met a guy in Bangkok who had this new spare Chromebook. He had brought several over from USA to offer to schools here, and this one was surplus to his requirements (his story which seemed plausible enough). I bought it and brought it back to Pattaya where I started to learn it's intricacies. I found no problem using it and was happy, although over a period of about 3 years I had to learn a lot, like having to buy a wifi printer. Fast forward another 13 years and having bought another new Chromebook 5 years ago, I am now in a situation where I'm getting p'd off with things like sketchy connection to my printer, Google Chrome having issues with some websites etc. etc. So I now want, I think!, to buy a new Windows laptop and re-learn how to use it. My questions are:- 1) Should I really buy a Windows laptop, or are there better options now? 2) If the answer to 1) is Yes, what should I look at? I know that I should buy the most powerful machine that I can afford. My budget will be under 25,000 baht. I will not buy a Samsung product for other bad experience reasons. 3) Any solid advice and recommendations? (Apart from not to be such a fool again!) Having gone through a steep learning curve, you might appreciate why I am asking for advice here, so I need the kid gloves treatment. Please be gentle! PS... I should hopefully soon have my Asus 15 inch Chromebook for sale at around the 6,000 baht mark. It's in excellent working order and looks like new! I also have my previous original Acer 15 inch chromebook to sell at about 4,000 baht, which is in excellent condition too. I only replaced it in order to avail myself of any Chrome updates which expire after about 5 years. Regards, thoengthaied.
  10. Not correct. I had the same problem last payday and sussed that I hadn't received a life certificate for a long time. I phoned the Pensions Department and they confirmed that they hadn't received the Life Certificate. I told them that I had never received one and they took the suspension off my pension immediately and my pension arrived in my Thai bank after a wait of a further 10 days. They emailed a Life Certificate to me and I sent it back by EMS. I have tracked the letter and it has been received, so no worries for another year. I phoned the Pensions Dept. again and asked if, because I had a blank LIfe Certificate now stored in my email, maybe I should send that back to them every 12 months so avoiding Thai Post not delivering the next ones. They said that it would be no good doing that because, when received, they would see that there was no LC outstanding and not link it to my account. They said that LCs are sent out randomly at approx 18 month intervals, but it is totally random. I should therefore keep checking my mail and keep crossing my fingers that my pension keeps arriving. If it doesn't I shall just have to call them again.
  11. I have exactly the same problem as the OP and spent several hours trying to solve it. I was about to go to my SCB branch when I heard that SCB is discontinuing the SCB app in July, so I didn't bother to go. Funny that when I was talking to SCB staff on their helpline they spent a long time trying to help, even connecting me to AIS because they thought it was a problem with my data. At no time did they mention that the app is being discontinued. Typical Thai. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Keep the workers in the dark.
  12. I'm guessing it wasn't the Jomtien 2nd. road branch....that's the bank that likes to say NO.
  13. If in Jomtien, Dr. Chanya has a clinic conveniently close to the Hanuman statue, and will do it for 200 baht.
  14. My car is now sold, no thanks to a certain member who still hasn't replied to a private message which I sent to him. Aagh! Some people !!! Ask a question , yet don't bother to look for an answer! Their loss!
  15. I have had booster jabs done free by Pattaya City hospital, but the last one done at the actual hospital on 24th. March this year was charged at approx. 1,300 baht. I believe they do the jabs on Friday mornings.
  16. If I want to transfer money from my Uk bank to my Thai bank I usually use (Transfer)Wise, but now I want to transfer from Thailand to UK Wise cannot do that. Does anybody know of a good company which will be able to transfer to UK quickly, reliably and cheaply online?
  17. To the contrary, I believe that the hybrid is the only model in production...not the other way round.
  18. Not sold yet. Price reduced to 720,000 baht. I haven't needed to replace batteries yet. The big EV battery which runs the engine has a 10 year guarantee.
  19. I have decided to sell my C-HR Hybrid Hi (top model) which I bought new in 2018. Nebula blue with black roof. Genuine 39,000 km. and full service history. I have all receipts for services done by supplying Toyota dealer every 6 months regardless of mileage. Full 1st. class insurance until July. Taxed. I have cherished the car and it is a reluctant sale due to needing to have a smaller, cheaper car in which to drive in the chaotic Pattaya traffic. My car is unmarked both inside and out. Never bumped or scratched. Fitted with Toyota dash cam. Averaging 5 litres per 100 km. ( about 55 miles per gallon). I would think that it is the nicest C-HR in the region. Price 770,000 baht, or would accept equivalent in GBP. Tel 084 563 1654.
