  1. You seem not actually to have any real comment to make. If you disagree, why not put forward a coherent opinion rather than snide ad homs?
  2. the arrogance of foreigners in Thailand - they are <deleted> drivers yet think it is the others - how bad can you get?
  3. I'd guess he was one of those who perpetually accuses Thai people of being bad drivers....... just typical expat behaviour. Have they retained his name? - he'll need a lot of cash to buy his way round the law and out of the papers.
  4. PS - At the end of the video it looks as if the headlamp of the benighted m/c is still on and pointing up the road towards the prison.
  5. "if you look at the video again, you will notice that the lights of the motorbike is heading the same way the truck was heading. " - I don't see any evidence of the motorcycle lights at the beginning of the video - I DO see the truck had a flashing yellow light on the roof. After the crash, it would appear the bike is pointed up the side road - probably dragged into that position by the rear of the truck think there are 2 main possibility here Firstly the bike was overtaking the truck whilst they were both turning right. BUT It is also possible that the bike was intending to go straight on and whilst overtaking was "forced" to turn right as the truck turned right On the video - there are no lights approaching the junction from Prison road before ht3 e truck turns - so it is pretty much certain the bike was turning or forced to turn right as it was tucked in beside the truck to of view of the camera - only a few metres before the junction. It would help if there was some more CCTV that recorded the vehicle before thy reached the junction. One assumes the bike was travelling behind the truck and tried to overtake I'm beginning to wonder if some people looking at the video are from a "drive on the right" country and don't realise how strange the positioning of th motorbike was. They've gone pretty quite anyway. PS if the truck was "forcing" the bike over it would not have =been possible for the bike to go on the verge as there are 2 twin-posted signs on the corner and a concrete power line pole. PPS - "the bike was trying to overturn the truck" - I presume you mean "overtake"?
  6. If you watch the CCTV video, you are left with one question Why is the bike there at all? Incidentally, the video shows how unreliable and partial CCTV can be. To make an evidential judgement we need to see the road at least 200 metres BEFORE the vehicles are in shot. What can you ACTUALLY see? There are mistakes made by the truck. It cuts the corner into the Prison road…..however anyone who has driven in Thailand at all will know that that is a very common way to drive in this country. What you can’t see is where the motorcycle is. Before the truck turns the bike is not there – that would indicate the bike wasn’t coming out of the Prison road , but was running along the right hand side of the truck When the bike appears and the tragedy happens it is on the right hand side of the road on the corner – it appears to have stopped. The driver of the vehicle hasn’t seen them at this point and it is not until he hears a noise does he realise something has happened. The video would suggest the bike was running along the RIGHT HAND IDE of the truck as it turns right – HOW ON EARTH DID IT GET THERE? It’s on wrong side of the road? Was the Truck undertaking it? Or – more likely, were thy trying to pass the truck unaware it was turning right? Take a look at the diagram above Those trying to apportion blame as ever are clouding the issue – it would seem that both vehicles have me a series of mistakes that led to this crash. I’ve said many times that in order to drive safely in Thailand a competent driver will adapt to the ways and mores of driving in this country. It isn’t a free-for-all there are conventions and Thai drivers are aware of these. You can’t drive according to the “rules at home”. Maybe the surviving passenger will explain?
  7. I love Ikea - bought there stuff in UK, Oz and Thailand. However their delivery prices are WAY, WAY over the top. I've also got a load of Index - they have many branches so one's bound to be near you. PS - I had the Salmon with il in BKK Ikea and the first food poisoning in 20 year in Thailand.
  8. I know the road well - it is the Prison turn-off on the ring road Here is an hypothesis It offers and explanation to why the bike was on the right of the truck. It assumes the bike was coming from Chaweng. The other possible explanation is the bike was coming down the road from the prison?
  9. not the word that comes to mind. Why not explain yourself properly? They may have been carrying beer to drink later This doesn't mean they were drunk then However they could have been drinking for hours and decided to take some home for a nightcap either way the presence of booze on the bike proves nothing. - except how baseless and unfounded some of the thinking on this thread is...... the way to find out how much thy were drinking is for the police to breath test them - s is the law in most countries - however the Thai police are completely untrained and therefore not competent to deal with an accident like this. Not only does this mean we are unlikely eve to find out, we are also not going to learn a thing for future roadsafety.
  10. Probably the most pathetic comment so far. cant you not read? Have you not read what I said about blame? I'm using critical thinking - some thing that many seen very devoid of (Google it) Do you REALLY see this accident it terms of race and blame!?!?! I thought you had more intelligence than that. Why are the motorcyclists on the wrong side of the road? Just answer that.
  11. People need to be VERY CAREFUL - how they view the CCTV. All the CCTv shows is that the bike was out of view behind the truck. It doesn't explain how they got there or even which direction were they going? Were they staying at rooms up the road by the prison/dump? Were they coming or going? Was their intended direction up the same road as the truck or was it their intention to carry on down the main road towards Lipa Noi or Nathon? If they were travelling in the same direction as the truck, it looks like they on the wrong side of the road and had stopped when trying to pass the turning lorry. If they were coming out of the side road then they would have been in a logical position. people who think video is an unbiased, analogical piece of evidence are deluding themselves
  12. I'm sorry but you clearly don't even have the most minimal gasp of the issues surrounding road conditions in relation to road safety. If you were my PA, you'd be sacked - but I have to point out, you wouldn't have been hired in the first place - you application is a joke.
  13. probably the most facetious comment so far. I don't suppose you'd care to give us your assessment? Why not every other good-guesser has so far
  14. you appear to have a conspiracy theory of your own - BTW - It was turning off the main ring road.
  15. It is unfortunate that even first responders are not trained in the science of road safety. The fist step in REAL road safey is to give up the blame game and focus on protecting the public. Rad safety is a public health issue As a first responder you will also be aware of the dreadful situation in Thailand re first responders. and emergency services. The number of lives lost due to lack of paramedics and quick responses is not calculated in Thailand..
  16. And As said your premises were demonstrably wrong. No real look at the evidence and just some ideas based on prejudice. the evidence of the photo contradicts most of what you say. now you are just talking nonsense trying to justify your original blunders you are trying to move the goal posts "Possibly because one is dead and other seriously injured? At 1 AM, they were on a main road away from the main population centres and carrying alcohol. What were the chances that they were drunk and speeding?" - you're trying to say they were drunk and speeding you are not postulating you're trying to say that's what happened with I would say LESS than a scant regard for logic. "Death and serious injury imply speed" - no they don't - again you make adssumptions .If he had just turned into a side road then there wouldn't be the speed f"actor required to result in that outcome. You are now trying to back up a false premise you made earlier If it was in any doubt you then say - “that's what I think happened.” you language is quite clear in black and white.
  17. No it wasn't clear and you are accepting the evidence of the driver s fact - "turning" implies an action that goes from the main road to thesis road. The truck is on the side road in the photo. Your premise of speed is totally insupportable by citing death as an indicator. I think that rather looking objecy=tively at the evidence available you are trying to make up a story that fits in with the prejudgements you already hold. I'm just suggesting variations on what may have happened, I'm try to demonstrate the futility of this. by giving you some examples. I'm also saying that the police are hardly any better than the crass comments that have appeared on this tread and that impart of the reason why these deaths continue at a constant rate year in and year out.
  18. More amateur crash analyses. Your premise is wrong - you can die on a motorbike at a stand still. Just try standing up and fall facedown onto the ground with a hat or protecting your fall. The bike is on the corner of the junction just inside the road - on the wrong side. The truck has stopped on the side road. I think a plausible explanation is that the motorcycle was attempting to overtake the truck without realising it was turning right. If they had been drunk they may have actually tried to turn into the right side road as they couldn't react fast enough. The problem is no-one will ever know because there will be no crash report. In UK/EU every rod accident is calibrated and stored for future reference....Thailand has no such system so integer learns. I CAN say that the roads on Samui are very badly surfaced, marked and lit - the surfaces ae frequently coated in loose sand - and at night it wouldn't be clear what is happening - regardless of how much they had or hadn't drunk. We don't actually know if he hit the back head on - I would suggest that the bike more likely ran under the back of the truck at an angle once it had already completed most of the turn. (I know this junction, I used to live near there I know this road from campaigning about the rubbish management). I think it's remarkable that this has received publicity worldwide yet te figures for the numbers of foreigners killed in places like Samui are simply not gathered let alone the figures for serious and minor injuries ... if fact they don't even do that for any crashes. Why people talk about alcohol under the seat being un-drunk - that's pure speculation - one could also speculate they had been drinking all afternoon and decided to take some home so they could carry on drinking - it had no bearing on the matter at all - except it indicates that one or both of them may drink alcohol. If the truck was coming from Chaweng it was turning right. The motorbike is on the right hand side of the entrance to the side road. poor lighting and poor road surface (was it wet?) would mean that a plausible explanation would be that the bike was overtaking a right turning vehicle. the sad thing is we will NEVER know for sure and the death toll on Thai roads will continue.
  19. the bike appears to have turned off the main road it is on the road to the dump.
