  1. Would anyone agree with me that the PM let it come to this on purpose?

He's a very intelligent person and he had enough time to prepare for the events in Pattaya, it make me think he wanted the reds to cross the line so he has the right to stop them from doing anything stupid in the future. If he would have acted before and called enough security to make sure they can't interrupt the summit, none of this would have happened and he in return would have no reason to take action against the red.

I would call it a smart move, however the reds will most likely say he got lucky when looking at the outcome of today's events in a couple of days or so.

  2. as bad as this is for thailand and the government, it is even worse for Thaksin.

Did I miss something here? Or did you accidentally say "even worse" instead of "a light at the end of the tunnel"?

Rainman, you disappeared for a while there. Out washing the blood out of one of your red t-shirts?? :D

Wow, you were really close there with that guess.

No, actually I was supervising the construction of our house, in specific at that moment, the kitchen. I almost missed your dumb comments for a while, too.

Need any more details or does that satisfy you for now? :D

i know the colour of your feekin' kitchen... RED!

    :o:D :D

  3. The reds want new elections, but I think everyone knows who would be elected - a Thaksin puppet government that later will be found guilty (again) of buying votes... at which point PAD will cal foul and go on the streets again.

The Thaksin government was convicted of nowhere near enough vote buying that would have changed the election results in any way. However, Democrat MPs were also convicted of vote buying. Everyone seems to forget/ignore that.

In the end, it evens out. Everyone buys votes.

If I remember right, the law says something along the lines that if people who lead the party were found of vote fraud the party will be dissolved. In the case of the P.P.P. it happened to be every single one of them, while with the Democrats it was some members...

    Just a thought here:

Let's say it's evened out, and both are playing foul equally... doesn't that say pretty much about how Thailand is NOT ready for a democracy, and that the party that comes to power is the one that is the most crook as it buys the most votes?

  4. theres 60,000,000 people in Thailand, lets say 30,000,000 are voting age, that crowd at the most is 100,000, thats 0.3 of a percent of voters, Im not saying their views should be disregarded but to say they represent the majority is pure speculation, they may just have to wait for the next elections as happens in other democracies

    Other democracies?

Thaksin's T.R.T. come to power - the P.A.D. call foul and have the party abolished and its members barred from office.

The P.P.P. come to power - the P.A.D. call foul, storm Suvarnabhumi Airport until the Contitutional Court (PAD) dissolves the PPP and bars its members from holding office.

    "as happens in other democracies?".

Ignoring the constitutional will of the people is not democracy.

    T.R.T. were foul

    P.P.P were foul

so did the PAD not have the right do demonstrate and pressure the courts into making a decision, before the government was able to change the law/constitution preventing the court ruling (removing the dissolution penalty for vote buying)?

The reds want new elections, but I think everyone knows who would be elected - a Thaksin puppet government that later will be found guilty (again) of buying votes... at which point PAD will cal foul and go on the streets again.

Does anyone here have a solution to this never ending circle?!

  5. My wife tells me that in most of Issan Thaksin is referred to as "Paw".

Your wife is from Isaan? And you support the reds? :o I'm shocked!

    Could there be a connection?

Yes its called Thai Citizenship..............Whats yours?

Of course I support Thaksin. He's done more for the people of Thailand than the PAD whose only interest is in Bangkok. Why don't you open your eyes and try undertstand what is happening here and what Thaksin Shinawatra has done for the people of Thailand as opposed the PAD whose only interest are themselves and the other middle class and pseudo upper class people of the capital. Have you taken a look at the current Prime Minister recently?

How much time did Thaksin have to do "good" and how much of that time did he use to exploit the country for his own good? It's a bit ridiculous to try and compare Thaksin with the PAD me thinks. And to to good is to give people a couple of thousand baht to buy their loyalty... well, I would call that pure exploitation of people who have no education and can't see further than their nose.

  6. I'm waiting for the PAD leaders to come out and say that entering government and private property is not the way to do it.

    :o

the PAD have been rather quiet lately,

well, who can blame them, they have "guilty" written all over their face.havent got a leg to stand on.

Just like the guy in your avitar.

guilty or not, the guy in my avatar won this round, so did democracy.

The only thing he's won is a free pass to bangkok hilton. People seem to forget he is in fact a criminal... the people that voted democratically the government and now rally in red shirts are the same - uneducated and paid by taksin to vote and rally the streets - now that's democracy at it's best!!!

  7. Red shirts, yellow shirts, blue shirts!! What are the brown shirts doing to maintain order. They seem so big and strong when stopping a motorcycle or a car for whatever!

Can't help but observe that Thais seem very powerful when the odds are 10 to 1 in favor.

I think you answered your question yourself... the brown shirts are outnumber 10 to 1.

As long as there is no order from above to scramble a large force they will do nothing then try to keep (the traffic in) order as good as they can.

This order has just been given in Chonburi and Pattaya, btw... State of Emergency to be exact.... sad to see that it has to come as far as this and that there has not been taken any measures before that would/could have prevented the state of emergency to be called.

  8. one shoot in the head of s specific man outside thailand would solve a lot of the problem,

i am more than happy that we have abisit now,, he give good response to the eco crisis and is good in econommy,,on the other hand, there is one man wth his own intrest, get back power and his money, who use the mob for his personal intrest.

thairakthai or taxsin a democrat never ever...........he waS guilty form the NCC for fraud and taxevsion ,and was blocked for politics,, but he was not following in 2001, and was still elected, contrarian thai law.

No it would be the trigger of riots. You rather want 10000 redshirts running down beach road burning cars and breaking windows?

What you have now is demonstrations with a certain amount of controll from leaders.

What will happen if Thaksin dies is riots, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_riots or your average french suburb uprising for examples of how bad it CAN be and compare to even the worst day of PAD/UDD gatherings. Your still on scale 1 out of 10 on the riotladder.

    Actually I disagree, why?

    1. The people are wearing red shirts because their "leaders" organized the demonstrations in the first place

    2. The "Leaders" are paid by Taksin, as this is ALL about him wanting his money and power back, he wants to be the first Thai PRESIDENT for christ sake

    3. If he'd be gone, there would be no more people getting money so no more reason to round up people and get them to wear red shirts.

And if anyone wonders WHY Taksin is still running free and WHY they let him keep his passport - IF Taksin were to be brought back to Thailand and put in jail (where he belong) THEN you would have riots on the streets.

  9. are there some comedians here who'd like to make a video?

I got the following idea in my head:

    - a farmer sits at his house drinking thai whiskey

    - a huge VIP bus comes down the dirt road towards him

    - a guy waves a couple of thousand baht at him and asks if he'd like to make some money

    - he get's on the bus

    - the bus is full of neighboring farmers

    - the TVs come down with an instruction video, kinda similar to the ones they give at flights

    - a guy in the front of the bus demonstrated on how to put on the red shirt

    - the following hours they watch propaganda videos on how bad the government is and that they have to take them down

    - the bus arrives at pattaya and they people are led by their guide to the place where they have to confront the evil government

btw, has anyone seen the footage where the red shirts tried to block another road in bangkok and hundreds (more) private people were shouting at them to go away and forced them to clear the road?

It was nice to see, that at least some people are not too afraid of the red shirts and stand up against Taksin's mob.

  10. On Thai Tv this morning. a woman is in hospital with breathing problems and can not speak after being attacked by a Husky.

I bet she thought: hey, he doesn't bark he must be friendly... Huskies are probably the closest you can get to a wolf, they are not pets - they are an animal that requires knowledge on how to handle them as an owner or ebing someone who would like to just interact. They seem friendly, but they can get ugly.

Friend of mine has 6 Huskies and they are VERY friendly, but for some reason one of them has been singled out by the pack and has to be kept separately (it's a female) else it gets attacked by all the others. Whatever the reason, it would be stupid to assume it will never happen to a human. I don't know what the reason may be, but I guess these dogs just don't like the "smell" of some people and attack them. Also, they are extreme pack animals, so it may also just result due to pack leader rivalry.

  11. Here's and interesting link about dog bites listed by breed:

    Dog bites by breed

It's a PDF file, so it may take a while to load.

Most breeds have 1 to 5 reported attacks. The only breed that is in the 4 digit range (1110 attacks) are the Pit Bulls. Rottweilers are in 2nd place with 406 attacks. No other dog breed has more than 100 attacks.

I would say that these numbers speak for themselves.

Great find, it supports the stats claimed by the studies I posted earlier, I just couldn't find actual numbers just percentages... 1100 of 2200 attacks!!!

  12. After having owned a fair few breeds of dogs over the years (back home in Oz) I bought a Pit Bull, as after the bad publicity that surround the dog I was interested to try one for myself. The dog was kept on my farm with a number of other breeds & treated well, exactly the same as the others. I have never had a problem with a dog killing livestock or anything before.

Approximately the 18 month period after having no problems with the dog whatsoever it went on a killing spree one morning & killed 2 other dogs, a goat, a sheep & some chickens, all in a matter of minutes. As I approached the dog, calling it in it charged me, at which time I got into my cruiser & sat there as the dog went wild at the side of the vehicle. I ended its day with a 243 round to the head.

I never was there for the start of that killing spree, I have absolutely no idea what set the dog off & I nearly quite possible became one of its victims at the end. I don't need a dog like that, I can't see that anyone does, yes the breed has a bad reputation, a very bad reputation & its not hard to see why. The only good Pit Bull is a dead Pit Bull.

So you got the dog for the wrong reason knew nothing about it and Voila you should never of got the dog just cause you wanted to try it out do you realize how stupid that sounds

The problem is, that every dog no matter what breed and size can have a "bad hair day" as someone said before, and if pit bulls and the like have a bad hair day things can get totally out of control. They should be "handled" like for example Tigers, you are only allowed to have one if YOU had proper training and the proper facilities to care for it.

I read so many news today about kids getting killed for no apparent reasons, or the video of the kid that got almost killed along with the grand parents for stepping on it's paw, it just shows that these dogs are dangerous, they are not the average pet dog.

If people who understand these dogs and their nature (like "DLock" and some other posters) handle them the way they should/do, so the dog adepts the owners rules/CoD and accepts him as the alphadog, there would not be anyone calling for a ban on these breeds. Accidents do happen, and many non-fighting dog breeds have killed people, the problem is that most people treat them as house pets, don't learn themselves and teach others how to handle those dogs, and since hardly anyone is willing to "go to school" for a dog, many end up with a dog they have no idea about it's nature and temper and those dogs end up hurting or killing someone.

Put a strict law in place on how to care for and house such dogs and there would not be any problem. If that can't be done, then they should not be allowed at all. People are just to dam_n lazy and careless if they are not forced, just like my neighbors. Think about the poodle that chewed up that kids face, it shows that actually NO dog should be unsupervised around children, and dogs that can kill kids with a single bite should not be allowed to run freely, ever!.

p.s. this is all about pit bulls and it's close relatives, but I also think Rottweilers and a couple of other dogs that are just so dam_n big that they can really hurt someone, without even adults being able to defend themselves when getting attacked, that should not be allowed to just have as a normal pet.

  13. How long before some Numpty starts quoting attacks from poodles like all the other pitbull threads.....

Pit bulls are unpredictable strong dogs, they require a lot of care exercise and stimulation I hate to see local pitbull owners that have them chained or locked in doors most of the day.

They then wonder why they go berserk when they get loose .

lol... just go to page 5 :D:o

  14. You should never lock dangerous dogs up in a cage like this. And it's so hot right now and Thai people never give enough water to animals, and often the water bowl is knocked over by the dogs. These dogs were probably suffering from all kinds of things, number One, suffering from acute dehydrated delirium where the dog simply won't know who it's owners are or what they're doing.

A pit bull needs to be kept in the house, close to its owners for as much of the time as possible, and got rid of as soon as there's babies or young children in the house. A pit bull will think the baby is nothing more than a dumb rabbit.

If you have dangerous dogs know how to take care of them. Even as guard dogs, they're a danger. What if the post man came, or a supplier? These dogs may have killed before, and the owners hidden the body somewhere. To have three of them is outlandish. I can't understand folks like this. Sorry.

Man, this topic is really getting to me, I apologize for ranting along...

My next door neighbors have a bull terrier in a tiny cage, it's about 1/2 of a cubic meter... sometimes they are gone all day and the dog is exposed to direct sunlight for hours (they forget to cover the cage). It makes my heart brake to see him there with the water bowl knocked over gasping for air. They put a fan next to it, but that doesn't really help much. It's friendly to me, so there has been several times where I jumped the fence gave it some water and put something up to give him some shade. My neighbors are college kids, they don't understand what this dog is going through, but at least they appreciate when I help it and don't get mad about it (lose face, whatever..). Is this treatment legal in Thailand, is there someone I can call to see what this dog is going through so they take it away from them?

  15. Greenside, the reason I got pitbulls evolved from having Bull Terriers - both of who died as the result of Cobra bites. Then, while searching for a reputable Bull Terrier breeded in Thailand(I didn't know Khun Or at that stage), I met a pitbull breeder and trainer and liked his dogs. I got my first female pitbull from his next litter and she was the ideal dog.

The trainer called me one day and asked if I wanted a 2-year, fully trained male. I didn't, but I went to see him anyway and ended up taking him home as he was likely going to be put down if no-one adopted him. He is a great dog, but snores too much and hogs the pillow. He's a big boy at about 90lbs.

Pitbulls are not a good choice of dog for anyone. They are simply too dangerous and unpredicatble. You can not relax for a second when people are around the dogs and having seen what my dog has done to other dogs that came too close, I know that if my boy got hold of anyone, there is probably little I could do, short of killing my dog, which I would do in a heartbeat if he attacked someone. Who wants to live like that? And who wants to see a dog locked up in a small cage all day?

BTW, pitbulls do not "lock" their jaws. Common misconception as they are just so strong, you cant pry their jaws open.

But I will take care of my dogs until they die of old age. I owe them that much as they have truly been exceptional dogs and give me a lot of affection and loyalty.

My next dogs will be Bull Terriers again. They were wonderful dogs. Not the sharpest of dogs, but a joy to have around. Safe, strong, reliable and sound.

But never, ever leave children unattended with Bull Terriers. The outcome could be disastrous.

You seem like a very caring and responsible dog owner. I envy you for the amount of time and heart you put into you dogs. I like you attitude towards these breeds, and wish everyone would be as strict as you are when it comes to handling them. As I said before, I think it is not a "pet"... I am unfortunately not able to care for a dog at the present time, because I can't dedicate enough time for one... got a cat instead who give me the honor of petting it occasionally, hehe.

I have a child and do want to have a dog eventually, as I grew up with one, and he was a great buddy. Only time I ever remember him getting angry was when my dad was yelling at me, he got in between and growled at him, haha. He was the most caring dog I have ever seen, we had some ducks he used to hang out with...

Anyways, I was just looking around for some infos about children and dogs, and stumbled accross this, so I'd like to add it to your warning about children and dogs.

How to Avoid Dog Bites in Children

According to a 1994 study by Mathews and Lattal approximately one million dog bites occur every year in the United States – according to the study 60-70% of those involve children, boys are bitten more often than girls and a third of the dogs that attack children are owned by the family.

A study by Beck done in 1975 indicated that 87% of biting dogs are intact males and most dogs bites occur in or near the victims home. Another study by Sacks in 1989 indicated that 70% of the children that were killed by dogs were under the age of 10 and 22 % were under the age of one year with 7% being sleeping infants.

Advice for PARENTS to TEACH YOUR CHILD Concerning Dogs

    1. NEVER disturb any dog who is sleeping, eating, or caring for puppies.

    2. NEVER pet a dog, even your own, without letting him see and sniff you first.

    3. Children must always ASK PERMISSION from the owner and their parents BEFORE petting any dog. I never allowed my children near strange dogs much less pet them.

    4. If the owner cannot control the dog and have it SIT nicely for the child to pet, WALK AWAY.

    5. NEVER approach a dog who is confined behind a fence, within a car, or on a chain.

    6. NEVER TEASE any dog by poking at them through fences or car windows or reaching your arm through to pet them.

    7. NEVER approach a strange dog you don't know or a dog who is not with his owner.

    8. NEVER RUN away from a dog that is chasing you. STOP, STAND STILL, REMAIN CALM, ARMS AT YOUR SIDES, be quiet and DO NOT SCREAM. Walk away SLOWLY FACING THE DOG BUT NOT STARING AT its eyes.

    9. If a dog attacks, "feed" him your jacket, a school book, a bicycle, or anything else that you can get between you and the dog.

    10. If you are attacked, STOP, CURL UP IN A BALL LIKE A TURTLE, COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR ARMS AND HANDS.

    11. Do not chase after dogs.

    12. Do not scream and be loud around dog.

    13. Children should not stare into the eyes of a dog.

    14. If a dog starts to circle you - turn with it, don't let it get behind you.

    15. If the dog shows aggressive behavior (I.e. barking or growling) put something between you and the dog - like a a chair.

    16. Just because a dog wags its tail does not mean its friendly.

    17. Always ask the owner of a dog if it is OK to pet their dog.

    18. If you are in the area of a stray dog - leave that area.

    19. If a dog approaches you remain calm and motionless. Keep your hands at your side. Speak with a soothing voice.

    20. If a dog is injured do not touch or try and help it. Go get an adult.

  16. Pitbull Attacks & Ravages Entire Family

BRAZIL: A pitbull attacked a 4-year-old girl when she stepped on his paw and the dog attacked her, her grandparents tried to defend her and they were also attacked. Cops shot the dog dead.

    http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=bfb_1234084031&c=1

    Lawsuit filed in poodle attack

    http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_396850.html

Yeah, poodles are known to bite... difference here is - I have yet to hear that someone EVER got killed by a poodle. The dog with the most recorded bites ever in Germany is the "Spitz", it's a tiny dog that has the nickname "ankle biter", go figure :o

btw 1st news is from February this year, 2nd from 2005 - the poodle attack took place in 2002, the settlement was in 2006 with over $17,000 awarded to the kid that got bitten.

  17. That is shocking news. RIP to the poor woman

    Stereotypical for the breed.

I feel sorry for the situation. RIP.

I also feel sorry for the persons who will say that it is stereotypical for the breed. We don't read about the

conditions the dogs were hold or what so ever. Sure it can be killing machines, that's a part of the breed. Compare it that you give a 9mm automatic to a 9 year old. It's also how the people care there dogs.

I agree with you, the news said she went to let them out of the cage... that tells you about how much love these dogs must have gotten - none. A friend of mine had a Staffordshire and a German Sheppard, they were best buddies all their lives, and never bit a person. However, I don't think fighting dogs should be held as pets - even better would be if they not even exist, there are enough beautiful and nice dog breeds to choose from, and even the "perfect family dog" the Labrador retriever can be trained as a guard/attack dog, so if there is a need to have such a dog, there is enough breeds to choose from in my opinion. It is a fact that the pit bull and all it's relatives (stafforshire, mastiff, etc) were bred/created for fighting, so only the most vicious were allowed to reproduce... thanks to the way genes work there will always be the non-vicious one, but the majority will inherit the genes of their ancestors, it's a real gamble inviting these breeds into you family.

Btw, the German Sheppard was bred to guard and control sheep, to do so it bites the sheep so they obey. It is therefor not surprising that people get bitten sometimes, however a Sheppard doesn't bite to kill and it let's go (unless trained to submit the person of course :o ).

  18. So you googled pitbull and thats the best you could come up with........ My aunts had 4 pitbulls and has never had them turn on her.

You obviously know nothing about breeding and dog breeds. And, not only that but you have the gaul to call someone an idiot who believes otherwise.

So, your aunt has had 4 pitbulls that never attacked anyone... good for her. She's been lucky, but not smart. Her dogs not attacking anyone does NOT mean the breed is not dangerous. That is like saying a live cobra is not dangerous. Not all cobras bite humans... but some do.

Dogs have been bred for specific purposes for hundreds of years. You can't stop a hunting breed from hunting. It is in the nature for retrievers to swim and retrieve things. You can't keep a labrador out of the water. Pointers will point birds whether you like it or not. Terriers are scrappy little dogs that will kill rats and other rodents without being taught. It is in the nature of sheep dogs to herd animals. They will even herd a group of children if there is nothing else to herd. Cats do not have to be taught to kill birds and rodents. They just do it naturally. And, pitbulls naturally want to attack. Certainly there are many pitbulls that are docile, but as a breed they were taught to fight to the death and kill other animals. They can NEVER be trusted no matter how good the owner might be. As a guard dog they are a poor breed. There are far better breeds for that purpose. Guard dogs need to be smart. Pitbulls are dumb as a post and very dangerous.

There are many dog breeds that will bite someone... once, but very few will attack with the intention of killing whatever it is they attack. I've been bitten by many dogs, but it was only a pitbull that I had to strangle to death. It was attached to my leg and wouldn't let go. I still have the scars today. But, I'm still not afraid of dogs and I actually like most of them... just not pitbulls.

I've been warned not to call the idiots, well,,, idiots. Like I said before people who have never had an on going interaction with the breed should keep their mouth shut. congrats on strangling a pit to death. Must have been been a small puppy :o

agreed, a pit is way to powerful to be able to hold it with bare arms, it will twist and rip you apart.

  19. Probably the best thing that could happen is to find some sharp object and try to kill it, that is IF it were attacking and there was no way out of the confrontation of course. I love dogs... I just hate/fear vicious ones.

No need to kill the dog or any other living being.

Just carry always at hand distance a "pepper spray".

These devices can be obtained at most markets for 100 Baht and are very effective.

I also carry with me a "zapper" (high voltage device, don't remeber the exact name).

These 2 devces combined are far more effective that trying to kill anything and are FULLY LEGAL when used to defend yourself.

Obiously you did not read the BOLD text in my post, I read news where POLICE was using PEPPER SPRAY and TASERS to try and get pit bulls to stop biting a person, IT DID NOT SUCCEED!!! They even reported, it just made them more angry.

You may scare off a Thai soi dog with it, but not a fighting dog in attack mode.

A friend of mine had a Staffordshire, he used to make it jump up and bite into a swing that was made of an old car tire, it would lock it's jaws and hang there for HOURS! I am not joking and not exaggerating.

  20. Pitbulls were never bred to attack humans the were bred for dog fights and are one of the most loving breeds towards humans. You get far more attacks by golden retrievers, german shepards and rottweilers.

Besides beeing locked up in cages, starving from malnutrition and lack of socializing them, the owners are soley to blame. Thais are famous for abusing their pets...

Can you imagine that pretty much ALL of the families that had their child killed by their own family pit bull type of dog have (had) exactly the same type of pictures you just posted?

Don't you find it awkward, that ALL of them have said the same as you, except with the word WAS in the sentence?

Their dog WAS a lovely dog. They did not expect their pit bull to launch off the sofa and kill the 10 year old son just because he was running with his brother through the house.

As someone said, these dogs are like liars... they seem to be your best friend, until you find out differently. I hope for you and your family that you will never experience this day, I would have no fun saying "told you so".

Looking at the statistics again: http://www.dogsbite.org/bite-fatalities-2008.htm

    1. "23 U.S. fatal dog attacks occurred in 2008. Pit bull type dogs were responsible for 65% (15). Pit bulls make up approximately 2-9% of the U.S. dog population"

    2. "78% of the attacks occurred on owner property and 22% off owner property. ALL off property attacks that resulted in death were attributed to pit bulls."

just add up the facts, and you will have to realize that you live with a potential killer.

  21. I’m fairly shaken now by reading all these horror stories.

Are there any suggestions how to confront a pit bull or any other attacking dog than to bite its nose?

How should someone react to fend them off or to get away?

Oh my, please don't ever get the idea of biting an angry dog in the nose, this may work with your own dog if you want to prove you are alpha dog (actually I suggest just biting it's ear then, I would be to afraid it snaps bag right in my face when biting in the nose), anyways I think this was a pure fluke for that lady!

Fighting dogs tend to fight no matter what happens, no matter how hard they get bit or hurt. You can read in many articles what people have tried to stop a dog, here a list of things that failed many times:

umbrellas, wooden sticks, wooden beams, pepper spray, police stun guns ALL did NOT stop pit bulls in rage!!

To be honest, I think the only thing that can stop a dog in rage is pure force/power, you got to be able to pin it down or restrain it somehow. With a full grown pit bull I doubt I could handle it, if it were to go crazy on me, they are so powerful it is truly scary.

Probably the best thing that could happen is to find some sharp object and try to kill it, that is IF it were attacking and there was no way out of the confrontation of course. I love dogs... I just hate/fear vicious ones.

  22. Future Thai law about pit bulls will most likely be like this

"Every owner of a pit bull is required to have a gun to shoot it in case it bits someone"

Another interesting news I just stumbled upon:
