I do know of a farang who received the dreaded black stamp - no names or details - and he still managed to keep his house and company together even though he isnt allowed back in Thailand. Not sure if he would be able to sell it but that's a diff question.

Im guessing if you arrived on a Tourist Visa then regardless if you live in Thailand or not you can claim this discount when you leave the airport for say I 3 day trip to Singapore.
When you buy a computer you take your passport along. They stamp a receipt with a form and hey presto you get to claim 7% back at the airport. Which for a 39,900 baht computer is 2,793 for those who do there sums. Seems worthwhile to me.

Exactly, if you are going to jump. Surely you jump with some style. Your Sunday best on maybe even some superman boxer's or something.

You can find lawn seed in the garden market across from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. This market is open Fridays - Sundays. Will cost you 400 baht.

I had my I touch repaired a couple of weeks ago, 2nd floor Tkom. I even asked the wife to go in so she would get the best price.
Fixed in a couple of days total cost 3,000 baht. Seems expensive but the cost is down to the LCD display unit.

Hi,
Im curious if you know anything about this quota system for your sugar cane crop when you go to sell it. Seems my wife has met a fellow farmer today who has 200 Rai and he asked her go into his quota.
My guess is it'll only be his name on the quota and he is doing this so that he will be charged less by the factory but pass on costs to my wife.
Im never around so im not really in the loop. The language barrier also doesnt help.
I am open minded as generally most of the Thai's ive met up there have been very helpful.
Any info would be helpful.

You cant reserve at Rimpa Lapin. Just first come first serve - even on new years when I went there. If its busy he'll take your number down and call you.

I would imagine the family do know the answer I never asked them. Just thought id do a bit of research myself incase I need to jump in as I leave everything up to them.
Very informative post waters edge. Seems they now have the pump working and they are watering as we speak. When I was up last week we were setting up the watering system with 3" pump to 75m 2" PVC with 100m of black hose which ran off the 2" PVC every 1m or so. So its a big spread.
There is no electric on the land with the nearest road being 200m away. I can imagine it would be pointless and expensive to bring electric in.
Im interested to know how much kg of fertilizer you would suggest / rai. And what product. My wife has just mentioned she is going to fertilize twice.
Once during planting which has already been done and once midway through growing.
We will add 100 kg fertilizer / 3 Rai.
Thanks again.

The wife's family have now got to the stage where they've cut and planted the sugar cane. This is the first season for planting. How long will the sugarcane last without water ?
Seems they are having a problem extracting the water from the river alongside.

Anyone know of and good TILE shops in and around Pattaya.
Apart from Boomtavarn and Homeworks ?
Looking for more specialist shops. With Tiles around 500-1000 baht /m2. And if possible an Imported selection.

Actually garfield Im a non resident and my accountant has advised me to defer any tax payable until the end of the tax year. So you can actually claim all rental income throughout the year un-taxed and then when you submit your tax return you work out everything from there.
I claim against my mortgage interest + all repairs etc. So my allowable taxable income actually increases every year and rolls over to the next year. Only to the point where my income/rent does not exceed this amount. Only then do I start to pay tax on income/rent.
During the end of this cycle and when you start to pay a small slice of tax you can always restart the cycle by buying another rental [another mortgage] so you then claim against that to avoid paying any tax and on and on and on and on.

You may want to check with either HSBC or Citibank in Thailand.
I use Citibank in Singapore and they permit me one free standing order every month to any account worldwide or 4 x free transfers / year.
This is Singapore though probably v different with them in Thailand.

Funny how this happens. I was looking for grass seed a few months back and eventually found some in the garden market opposite Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. It was 400 baht a tin though. Which is only about a 1Litre tin. Thought it a bit steep but then you cant actually buy any seed as far as I could see anywhere else.
Market is only open Friday's Saturday's Sunday's.

If im in a bar and ive 4+ drinks then I might tip 40-60 baht.
If im bar hopping they get the change.
I tip the security guard 100 maybe 200 baht / month as a polite gesture that ive not forgotten about him.
If ive been out with 6-8 friends for a meal then Ill make sure the tip is at least 100 baht / head of farang.
Ill tip the taxi driver maybe 50-100 baht If hes taking me from the Airport to pattaya.

Ive always used the expression 'get over it and stop complaning'
As I live in Thailand and dont pay any Taxes I just view these kind of deals which go on as a small insignificant tax same as I do when I pay for a bar fine.

Thanks for the info. The hole he's planning will be I imagine no more than 20 ft or so from the river. He'll probably just stretch it length wise parallel to the river to limit the amount of land we loose. The dirt will then be taken to fill in another hole we have on the other side of the property which is next to a seasonal river.
Im guessing the height from the bottom of the river to the land is around 20 ft. There is no electric nearby so my guess is he would buy diesel pump 4-6" diameter. All 72 Rai of land is flat. No hills to speak of. Just opposite on the other side of the road ive heard Chang Beer Company has purchased 300 Rai of land what for im not sure. However the land is flat for miles around.
Do you think 4-6" diameter pump would be sufficient / Is there really a need to buy a sprinkler system?

I posted this in the health section but no response.
Does anybody know where I can buy an Ultrasound Machine for my personal use in my home.
And no it is not the same machine used for pregnancies. You can buy a basic ultrasound machine and self treat which is very helpful with joints and muscle tears/rehabilitation.
These are not expensive online you can buy one for around $100 on Amazon.
Id prefer to buy in Thailand than pay postage costs from US.
Prefer Pattaya but would be willing to travel to Bangkok.
Thanks

Thanks for the response. From what I understand the dirt from the 1 Rai plot will be moved to the other side of the property filling in another hole which aligns a dry river so from this point of view production should not be altered.
Along with the fish production I would think they may be able to get 15-20k over a 3-4 period so in time the hole should pay for itself. As ive time on my side I have no problem with this.
Im fairly confident that this should pan out ok - ive received rough costs of 60,000 baht.
We were told by the sugar guys in the factory it is safer to plant in Dec/January than April when excessive rainfall can destroy the initial growth of the crop so this is the main reason for needing the hole pronto.
Gary A : Im wondering your tonnage / rai you received on avg over your 10 Rai ?

Just back from the trip up north. About to plant around 80 Rai of Sugarcane.
The father in law has said he needs to dig a 1 rai hole in the ground so he can pump out the river and water all the sugarcane he has just planted. I did ask why he cant just pump direct from the river which to me is the more obvious way to do things. But maybe for long term the hole is the way forward.
I was thinking best to dig 2 x 1/2 Rai holes which he can then use as a mini fish farm ie - keep one hole empty fill the other throw a net + fish then pump out to the other hole etc etc...
Anyone done this kind of thing ?
What kind of costs should I expect for equipment pump/hoses etc.
Any ideas on best pump etc to use ?
How much you think ballpark for rental machinery to dig the hole ?
Any ideas past experiences would be helpful.
Thanks

I've just received an email from BUPA which states that if you pay your premiums yearly then they will cover you for life. As long as you apply before age 61. Not sure if there is a 10 year period of cover req'd before they will allow this however I will find out for you.
