  1. [Well, judging by some of the folks I see out and around town these days, that doesn't really seem to be working.

How could that work when you have quantity of "agencies" who offer their services to get your retirement extension without having to show any money ? This morning again, I went to Tukcom Pattaya and there was, just at the entrance, an ad "Your Retirement Visa : 19'000 baht", with name & phone. They don't even hide their illegal business. sad.png

  2. // i can't quite understand why many of you have come to this fabulous " Land of smiles " with it's fabulous outdoor climate and spend your days stuck indoors watching tv or gazing at your computer screens all day.....

Not everyone is retired or in holidays !

Most of those who work do it inside their office room, and then yes aircon is mandatory...

Outside climate is good... outside working hours wink.png

  3. So the issue is that the service charge is now a separate item on the bill and that confuses some people

    (pictures from Thai social medias)

    Thanks for these pics.

The new bill ticket is in fact now similar to the bill-letter we receive by mail, smile.png

except it's a little bit more condensed because of the very smaller size wink.png

  4. My Thai wife and I want to move out of our studio sea view beachfront condo to a two bedroom unit suitable for us plus her ten year old child who will join us.

Hi. Make it easy: make it the Thai way:

Add 2 more walls and your studio will become a 2-bedrooms condo smile.png

  5. OP, Report this to City Hall 1337.

My experiences is they get on the case "pronto".

Good idea to call Thai tourists services IMHO,

much more effective than complaining on this forum rolleyes.gif

but 1337 should be reserved for emergencies only.

For this kind of complaints the number to call is 1111.

  6. Today was my first day in Pattaya in a long while. 45 baht beer is great. That's all I got...carry on.

Soi 7 or 8 or Plaza across from Soi 7 or 8, Cheap Beer Bars...

Cheaper places are on Walking Street wink.png

You can get beers (bottled) there from 39 baht smile.png

  7. Also always use a credit card

since you have recourse if something does go wrong

It may depends of your cards, bank and country,

but I doubt my CC to be of any help in such case... ??

....well the laws protect the locals....

So false! Just Google it. Many cases where a Farang won in Court against Thais smile.png

Airlines will not accept a debit card here, //

What do you mean? I paid my last AirAsia fly with my Kasikorn debit card.

  8. I haven't seen any reason to shop at Tukcom for a couple of years now. Nothing but trouble there.//

I can't understand this kind of bad comment using generalisation sad.png. There must be 200+ shops in Tukcom! Some of them are genuine good official shops with usually good sell service and good after-sale service smile.png

Many other are similar to all this very small "bazar" shop you find everywhere in Pattaya. They will try to sell you the last Samsung or iPhone for less than 5'000 baht rolleyes.gif but don't count on a support for a product that will quickly need one ! wink.png

On products I bought the difference of price with Pantip Bangkok - if any - was very small and don't worth the hassle of a trip to Bangkok. BTW better to buy local if ever you need the warranty.

Many good shop & sellers in Tukcom, and I really hope many of them will stay here when the other Tukcom will open.

  9. I am shocked that as a Kasikorn customer I find out about the outage in this group ...

But I guess TiT - no surprises ....

They informed the media (FB, press, ...)

    They send SMS to customers

They announce it on their website ( http://www.kasikornbank.com/en/PromotionPrivileges/Pages/KbankMaintenance.aspx )

They will display this information this week in all their agencies

    Not enough for you ?

    KbankMaintenance_en.jpg

Another good reason why you need at least 2 banks in Thailand and should always carry a backup ATM card.

Seriously? You can't live 48h without access to your bank? Sad for you IMHO.

  10. I dont believe its finished yet, or didnt appear to be anywhere near when I drove past a month ago.

I think that Unicca is finished and people already living in. smile.png

This is a pic from about 1 month ago, from Center Condo.

Unicca in the center; BigC & HomeWorks on the left/back; The Trust on the right.

  11. I am sorry but you probably have not seen the amount of Wills that I have

and I can tell you that at least 75% of them are wrong. //

I can believe you, but how many of them where for a lawyer? 50%? 80%? 100%? rolleyes.gif

The few cases I know where a lawyer looked at someone will,

he always said they were wrong on some points,

and they all had been written by lawyers asking 5 or 10'000 baht for that!

Wills in Thailand seems to me just a good way to make business for lawyers... sad.png

  12. Sorry, didn't realize chip was new technology. (US only introduced in late 2014???)

It isn't all that new. Most of my credit cards have microchips and have had for over 5 years. I also have some debit cards without microchips - perhaps debit cards don't have microchips?

Chip cards are far to be that recent. Bank cards in France use chip-cards since 1992.

The reason why it's "new" in USA is because USA banks refused to pay for Moreno's patent

and waited 30 years for it to expire.

  13. // Yesterday I went to the Ampur office // the service was no longer available //

That's some very bad news. It was a cheap and easy way to get an official will.

5000 baht gets you a Will in Thai and English //

That's one of problems. It was less than 500 baht at the Amphur, witnesses included wink.png

For most of us there is no need of a lawyer for our will. (exclude complicated cases, like divorced)

  14. OP is talking about the baht bus from bus station , it's never been 20 baht , its more like 50 baht.

All wrong wink.png . Yes it has been 20 baht and at least since 2005 !

I think it's only at last Christmas (high season) that the asked priced changed to 30 baht.

Seems they also change the payment system as they now ask to pay up front at the bus station.

Not a bad idea as they now don't lost the time for the payment at each place they stop.

And the driver will take you to the hotel near beach road if you ask for it. If you do not carry a lot of luggage just walk across the road and pay 10 baht. Really, what is the problem here, why all these threads ?

    Except that:

    - North Rd is not that easy to cross at this place. (2x2 lines and vehicles going fast)

    - There are very few bahtbus going along North Rd; you may wait a long time

    - This place is just 250m for the Sukhumvit start station. That means that bahbus are usually already full and may not stop for you

    - Most bahtbus here go up and down North Rd; so you will have to get off the bahbus at the dolphin roundabout and take a second bahtbus going along beach road.

I am happy to pay 30 baht for this service who works well if you go along Beach Rd till South Rd. smile.png

  15. Hi. Paying an overcharge on the price of electric units, like 6 or 10 baht, is very frequent in Thailand when you rent, and it's not a scam as you agree with this price when you sign your contract.

Here it's different, because it's the amount of units that seems wrong. No way you can use 500 unit/kWh in one month in an apartment, mainly if you don't use aircon!

How many unit did she really used? I mean what difference on the electric meter? You usually write the value of meters (electric & water) when you sign your contract and get the keys, everywhere in the world. Bad practice in some areas is to make pay the "tourist room" for the electric of several other rooms too (friends, family,...)

    > What she can do?

She should make a complain at a main Police Station.

Police doesn't like this kind of scam and proved to be very helpful to solve many such problems. smile.png
