  1. These agents do do services to the embassies as well, so it is likely that french can be included as well as other nationalities.

You could give an agent a picture of you, yes, but how do you give him your fingerprints ?? rolleyes.gif

The procedure for French is on this site: http://www.ambafrance-th.org/Demande-de-passeport

1- Mandatory presence at submission of the Passport application and at reception of the Passport

4- Submission of application and collection of fingerprints are indissociable

  2. So maybe it could be good to add" UK" somewhere in the title and/or the original message?

There is no way they can do this service for a French passport by example,

as you need to go to the Embassy in Bangkok where they will take picture and fingerprint

    for the new passport.

  3. can never understand why any place would want all that weight of water, concret and extra steel on the roof ?

most people with even half a brain would put a pool in the ground...where it belongs.

You just forget this kind of project has nearly no land. sad.png

They don't have space enough for a pool "near" the condo, so they put it "on" it

and then make a selling argument of it: A wonderful sea view top/high floor pool rolleyes.gif

  4. I went to Big C South last week and paid the annual tax registration for my scooter.

The info is only 1 week old and is accurate from start to finish. It was organised and also a very easy task to complete.

    http://pattayatravelblog.com/renew-motorcycle-registration-pattaya

Make sure you have your green book, copy of insurance and 100 Baht and your all good.

Good, but could be good to add the fact you also need the inspection certificate if your bike is 5 yo or more. (see posts above)

  5. Jomtien wants 300B for the same day, 200B for the next day and they will do them for free if you dont mind waiting a week or so.

I think it's obsolete information. Since they reorganize the Jomtien office (in early March?) the Residence Letter is now delivered "immediately" (10-15 minutes?) for a unique price of 300 baht. AFAIK, there is no more "next day" or "next week" option, but still no receipt of course. wink.png

  6. French or not you are subject to local laws and most require you to get a local license anywhere from 3 months to 6 months no matter what you international license indicates. beside it may not be valid at as it is in French and hardly any other country uses French anymore. wai2.gif Sorry if this does not help but the subject was about International drivers licenses in Thailand, not the hundreds of variations there would be in falang land. The Subject title should have indicated "obtaining an international drivers license if you live in Pattaya etc" But hey, it did not fit in the title box.

KhunBENQ already showed you that you were fully wrong and that a French official IDP is in Thailand as valid as any other foreign IDP, so no need for me to come back on this point. BTW I was replying on a post about IDP "in pretty much every jurisdiction in the world", not "in Thailand only" wink.png

Seems to me you never got an IDP in your hand? They are multi-language documents. The cover of mine is in French because obtained in France, but inside you find translation of the "Definition of Categories" page in German, Spanish, English and Russian. smile.png

Thailand has not signed the 1968 convention so this, 3 year license, is not legally valid here.

Not true. Countries that recognize/accept IDPs accept them from any Convention (1929, 1949, 1968, 2011) whatever Convention they use for their owns IDP.

PS: I am living in Thailand, so of course I have a Thai Driving License. smile.png

  7. ^^^ An International Driver's PERMIT (not license) is only valid for 1 (one) year in pretty much every jurisdiction in the world.

Not exactly. IDP from many countries following the 1968 convention have a 3-years validity.

Mine is from France: 3 years validity and can be extended (stamped) once for 3 more years.

Example of French IDP: (see dates: 2005-2008)

  8. // Pretty sure this is part of some cunning master plan,

where it looks like something is being done but really is not.

I noticed that not a single window was broken.......cheesy.gif //

Why slandering Pattaya City when clearly they make a good job on this case ?

Clearly you don't know what you are talking about and didn't see what they are doing.

This morning there were at least 20 workers on the place, making holes bigger and emptying rooms.

For your information, yes they have started removing windows, and cutting big water pipes too.

They certainly will not stop before it's ended now smile.png

  9. // but after paying $1000 plus for a plane ticket what is another 400-500B ?

It is just a waste of money rolleyes.gif

The Bangkok Airport is currently "a no-queue airport" smile.png

... and I can prove it from my trip to Europe this month :

"Queue" to register to Europe: 4 people in front of me...

"Queue" at Immigration to exit Thailand wink.png

  10. Hi. Do you really need a condo management company ?

In my condo we stopped a few years back with such companies.

Our manager is now a salaried employee of the condo.

We use a software for accounting and an accountant office for yearly legal appraisal.

The condo has never been managed so well :)

  11. Sweat doesn't smell if Your'e clean..

That, dear bobobo, is fully wrong. Most people smell what they eat.

Indians have been mentioned already because of the curry, cumint and garlic in their food, but it's true for many countries, and many foods and drinks.

Look by example here http://www.medicaldaily.com/you-are-what-you-eat-6-smelly-foods-are-actually-giving-you-bad-body-odor-298318 or Google it.

BTW people in Pattaya should remember that too much alcohol give a very bad smell too...

  12. OP second link seems to be kaput?

And presume "successions" means what happens after you die?

1- Yes, they changed the URL a little bit. I can't edit 1st message.

Here is the new URL: http://www.retiringtoitaly.it/eu-regulation-6502012-cross-border-succession-%e2%80%93-effective-from-17-08-2015.html

2- Yes, "succession" used here as the process after you die,

like here: The act or process of becoming entitled as a legal beneficiary to the property of a deceased person

  13. I do agree with you, my British friend, they haven't got a clue how to boil an egg properly.

Don't you thing your statement is rather arrogant ?

There is no such thing as "an egg properly boiled".

Here again it's a problem of customs and traditions.

I understand that people from UK and US like their eggs "hard boiled"

but many other countries (most?) prefer them "medium boiled", like in Thailand.

Your GF in fact just try to correct your default

and try to learn you "the proper way" to eat eggs. wink.png

  14. Hi. A very interesting point in this month French Embassy's Newsletter.

This concerns all European people (and people who own lands, house... in Europe ?)

It's about The New EU Regulation 650/2012 on International Successions that will apply to successions opened from 17 August 2015.

In short this regulation will make things easier in the general case :

Only your country of residence will manage your succession, even for goods you own in other countries.

The principle: application of the law of the State in which the deceased will have his/her habitual residence at the time of death, even if this is the law of a State that is not a member of the European Union. A single law will govern the whole succession.

Expats in Thailand : It's Thai law that will soon apply on your goods or house in Europe too...

Of course you can modify this "by default" rule by making a will, but from my Embassy very few expats make one... until today.
