  1. yes and yes

See Maploader and you can define landmarks manually with long/lat

There is no interaction on the pc side except for download to phone or memory card

I was using 100 hours but now im on unlimited

If you have to refill in the middle it can be a little complex but possible

Can the GPS maps be downloaded on your PC, then transfered to the phone? If so, can you program way points into the phone using the map from the PC?
  2. Best thing is probably to buy two 7200.10's from SEAGATE then and put them in a RAID enclosure.

Nasty for portability though. would prefer just one drive. I bet this TB drive noisy more than the lower

capacity drives. 13 m/s isn't anything to write home about either.

Price wise it's not too outrageous. I thought I paid over the US price for the 7200.9 I have now.

    At Pantip Plaza: Baht 14,700.00

Seen 2 days ago at 4. floor! (but forget the shop name)

  3. When I first came to Thailand I enjoyed the unique sound of Au's music. Think the album

    was called By Heart.

Back then Nicole was the most popular (2000) now it's just proliferated into garbage including many of the

boy band rubbish and some cute girl who they always play at MBK.

Noticed that P'Bird was lip syncing most of this years concert so I think he's past it already but I'm sure

hel_l be filling stadiums next year and years to come.

simply red who were fascinated to hear the Thai music casettes I had in my car

    :o

    Explains alot.

  4. My advise to download all of Thailand at once. Just take your mobile and a usb cable to TNET or True Internet pay about 40 thb and download the load onto your phones memory card. then you won't have to pay to download them again. You can also put your SD card in it's adapter and use a card reader. I usually have dotnet and Map Loader on a flash drive ready to go.

also make sure you have the latest firmware installed because that will give you assisted GPS which will result in a faster lock. I had an N95 but now have an E90. I find the E90 fits my data inputting needs better.

    Hi everyone,

Hope this of use to anybody out there.

I had previously asked about using a Nokia N95 for Sat Nav in LOS.

I started using the phone I brought over from the UK. It was on O2 in the UK so there was no need to have it unlocked.

The maps are free, the only cost involved is downloading them onto your memory card via an internet connection. The phone does this for you as you move from place to place in LOS ( You can also scroll around the map of LOS,using the "joy-pad" on the phone to download maps ).

I had to switch my service provider from DTAC to 12 Call as DTAC was too slow. The access cost is 1 Baht per min but, maps are downloaded quickly. The maps appear to be up to date but I've only downloaded maps for around Pattaya, Rayong and the dirt-track (sorry motorway!) to BKK and the north of BKK. They have the usual landmark icons such as temples, monuments, etc.

I've used a Bluetooth GPS receiver sitting on the car dashboard (or around your neck ). The high rises in BKK make satellite detection hit and miss but,out of town satellite detection is OK.

The N95's battery life is poor so an accessory charger is essential.

Route planning is by text but sometimes internet access is needed. The main drawback is, voice navigation is limited to BKK and there is a charge of 332 Baht for 30 days and 2,912 Baht for 1 year. I haven't tried the voice navigation option. The ability to look up addresses and post-codes seems to be limited.

Hope this is of use to members. Anybody else who uses a N95 and who has any tips, etc, please reply!!

  5. chest xrays are a high dose of radiation but I've had one this trip as I had some respitory infections due to the pollution.

I've had similar experience in so far as they prescribe too little medicine and you're expected to return again later.

But that said. a chest xray really tells them a lot they cannot see and compared to western pricing they are dirt cheap here. MRI is certainly not necessary but again they are trivial in price compared to western prices. I had one a few years back on my shoulder and it cost $200 but I got it all back from my wifes insurance.

I am at work in the UK and my wife takes our 20 month old son to the doctor because he has a bit of a fever and they tell my wife he needs a chest x-ray. OFC my Thai wife doesn’t question the doctor and as expected nothing was wrong he only has a cold. The doctors only think about money and are happy to expose a baby to radiation to make it. It wasn't our regular paediatrician as he was unavailable. I went for a check up a couple years ago and they tried to talk me into a chest x-ray and MRI. I said no then went a few months later to my doctor in Canada for a real check up. He said it is common these private hospitals prescribing unnecessary procedures to make money. He thinks it's an unethical practice.

Anyways sorry for venting on this forum but I want to warn parents. When I get back I’m going to have words with my regular paediatrician and see what he says if he backs the decision as I guess he will I will try a different hospital.

  6. Seagate shows ATA drives as high as 750 gb.

SATA would require I need a new enclosure? They aren't backward compatible with ATA right?

Pata, i believe the largest you can get is 500GB. For SATA for now they go up to 1000GB, but the drives are harder to find at some stores.
  7. Was this the dutch guy you see standing with the menu sign?

I would have just told him that you don't pay tax on departure at the airport anymore.

How did you pay your taxi fare - plastic?

Can't you spare a hundred baht or so for someone in need?

Maybe one day you will fall on hard times.

  8. On my last trip I picked up a Seagate Barracuda 400 GB drive. Not SATA. I use it with an firewire 800 enclosure to my powerbook but I think it's time to consider increasing capacity. What is the largest 3.5 inch drive available today and what's the pricing like at Panthip.

  9. Fierce snake is the most venomous land snake isn't it?

    Inland Taipan

we have the most venemous land snakes in the world here in Oz and none of them will kill you in 15 minutes, sea snakes are worse

    Bronco is right

    venem facts

    Most venemous snake=sea snake

Most venemous land snake Aussie brown snake

stongest venem=So. Am. spitting tree frog

If a snake has any red in its color, it is usually dangerous

I kill them all, cuz i got no mice or rats, and the bamboo

viper looks like the hamless garder snake where i come

from, and i got kids. :o

  10. It's usually not that the venom is more potent just they aren't old enough to know how much to deliver and keep biting hence inject more.

Opened my bedroom window yesterday morning only to be greeted by a small snake wound around the security grate and climbing vines. About 1/4 meter long, with very distinctive white coloring with black stripes, running around it's head and girth. For lack of a name, I call it my "zebra snake." Was very shy, and immediately disappeared in a niche between the window and the frame (shudder).

I steered clear, knowing that even some baby or juvenile snakes can deliver potent venom (such as the American Rattler, which carries a worse venom-packing bite as a baby snake, than an adult can).

Can anyone tell what I had from that description?

  11. Catching and releasing a snake isn't for everybody and people shouldn't be encouraged to catch and release them.

Is this one some kid of Boomslang? Didn't know they had those here in Thailand.

here's the little one found by my dog in the garden of my house. was told that a bitten could lead to death within 12 hours, even though it looked sooo cute. i saw this pretty while my dog was playing happliy with it !!! eventually we shot a close-up before it's been killed. poor snake, you just came to a wrong place ~~~

Couldn't you just catch it and release it a few miles away? ...ya wally.

'just came to a wrong place'...I think you're in the wrong place.

  12. That is seriously scary... Was there anywhere near the tourist area? Just up the hill or what?

This is a King Cobra that the villagers killed in front of my friend's house near Ao Nang, Krabi.

  13. These are 1 x 1 ft square tiles I think and this guy was wondering past our door a few weeks ago. My wife saw one of her dogs taking an interest in something and this was it.

Especially in the rain season i get many snakes in my garden. I kill them all. I got a small kid, and three dogs. Sorry, no compassion for snakes. Killing them is a lot easier than catching them.

I am far more worried though about centipedes. Different than snakes, centipedes are very aggressive, and their bites hurt a lot, can kill even a child. In the rains now we kill one nearly every second day. :o

  14. I stay around Don Muang and in May we saw 4 snakes in as many weeks in our moo baan. in fact 3 of them were on our property.

It does seem to be that you see more snakes in the wet season than the dry and always when clearing the ground in towns or country. In 7 years living here i have only seen 5 snakes the latest a large Python seen in this link. We were passing in my car in photo as they held it up.

  15. You were really bitten by a King Cobra?

    What's that story then?

Couldn't have been as bad as that drunken idiot who was bitten by the King Brown in Western Australia.

Do not get bitten by a King Cobra - I was bitten (in Thailand) about 11 years ago - and will live for the rest of my life with the damage to my leg (my own stupid fault to be honest).

  16. Yes that is what I'm saying. Waitlisted with something like 120+ people on the same date. Everything is heavily booked. I haven't enquired about buying up to a higher fare class bucket.

Re-issue the ticket? What does that mean?

The only reason I don't go thru the UK as an option is because the luggage allowance is so much less.

What are the options to get to Chicago? The return leg of my ticket is blackout right now. Something the travel agent didn't mention when I purchased the ticket. Secondly BKK->NRT with JAL is easy but NRT->ORD isn't.

    Anybody in a similar boat?

What are you asking? It sounds like you are holding the last two coupons of a ticket on JL for BKK-NRT-ORD, but that you are waitlisted for NRT-ORD? Change the date of travel or buy-up to higher fare class bucket or re-issue the ticket? Honestly not enough information here to even figure out what your situation is.

  17. You're not following ... My post was replying to the person who had the pay as you go phone ie. Nokia

there are two parts to this thread.

    1. unlocking an iphone

    2. unlocking a non-iphone most probably a Nokia model.

My comment was in reference to #2. Read his post again. He thought he could use his sim locked pay as you go phone here but found that he couldn't so I suggested he use a flashing box to get it unlocked if necessary or simply enter the code if found online. For more info I'd need to know what model phone it is.

What type of phone is it? Chances are you can get it unlocked at MBK.

This phone hasn't been unlocked by anyone so far without disabling the main features of the phone.
