  1. Normally when I come to Thailand I usually buy a lot of Mach 3 blades to take back as they are cheaper here. A couple of weeks ago I was in Soho square in London and they were handing out free Gillette fusion trial packs to people and I finally got around to trying it for the first time today. There's a considerable difference between a 5 blade Fusion and a 3 blade Mach 3 and I think I'll upgrade but usually you can easily find Mach 3 blades here but are Fusion blades as common? I'll have to check next time in Watsons, Big C or Boots as to what the prices are but without question Mach 3 blades are much cheaper here.

I find that with 5 blades you don't have any many strokes and you're less likely to cut yourself because there's less space b/w each blade.

  2. What is your MTU size in your router set to? Sometimes that by default is too big and has to be reduced.

That's certainly the case with my fathers netgear router in the UK and the classic symptom is that https doesn't work

    reliably.

    Hi All.

I've only been able to have a ADSL connection (with TOT) for about 3 weeks, and yesterday I tried to post a reply to one of the forums. I couldn't do it.

So today, I tried again, using my old dial-up modem instead and it was fine.

What was happening was interesting - when hitting the "post new topic" button, nothing happened for 6 or 7 seconds, then suddenly I was thrown back to the root of the website on the main page (www.thaivisa.com) with no trace of my posted replies.

But it's a sweet as (very slow) silk when using a dial-up connection.

Any ideas why that might be?

    Cheers

    Rob

  3. He, the new Chief of Police and Apirak were at Siam Paragon at the newly opened King Mother exhibition. I have to say I think if Sonthi wants to be PM it's a no brainer for him. You can see he's a very charasmatic fellow but at the same time he screams sincerity with the way he presents himself. There's no doubt in my mind that this gentleman would win an election if he ran.

  4. So I bought my father this router to use instead of the speedtouch 330 and now he's having trouble getting live updates from the norton service.

    Anybody seen this problem before?

Personally I think he should install NOD32 or something like that instead of Norton Internet Security but it's not going to be easy to convince him of that.

reduce the MTU to 1400 already.

  5. I believe it's 250 GB now re: 2.5" drives but yes 3.5 are larger which is why I have a 400 GB Barracuda in an external enclosure here.

2.5" drives were originally meant to be used in notebooks, and hence use lower power. They could therefore run from just the power supplied by the USB port. Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages.

Speed: Desktop drives have faster rotational speeds, and even at the same RPM desktop drives are still faster.

Capacity: Desktop drives now are available at 750GB, while 2.5" drives have just reached 200GB.

Size/weight/physical: Desktop drives are of course bigger/heavier/louder/hotter.

Price: Per GB, desktop drives are cheaper.

  6. This was the act they used to end the exhibition. They'd been playing something a little softer ie. less skin all week but nonetheless the ex culture minister would still disapprove. I'm sure she'd probably keel over if she saw today's display.

These weren't normal women... they moved very well to the music that was being played and there was a lot of suggestive

    grinding etc.

What was interesting was that the girls in the building were just as into it as the men. Everybody was appreciating it for what it was and to a certain extent their "skill" was appreciated by all.

It's interesting because I'd been using internet at TNET there all week and they had this announcer guy and sometimes girl doing that bit back and forth that so annoys me because it's always so loud and deliberately designed to get people's attention. I'm talking about wipping out two microphones getting up on stages and annoying the hel_l out of everybody. You see this at Central Lad Plao and I guess at Panthip quite often but imagine it's Panthip but 3 times louder so you can hear it anywhere in the building.

If anyone decided to buy a house because of a demonstration like that, they deserve what ever misery comes their way (as far as the home is concerned).

Really makes me wonder though, when ever there is a bit of flesh on display, how many cameras (and camera phones) come popping out. I mean, get real. Have these people never seen a woman in a bikini before ?

As well, small things amuse small minds.

Please excuse me while I peruse Dante and gaze upon Van Gogh, whilst waiting for Billingsworth to bring my tea and Gray Poupon ! :o

  7. Note to admin.

If I can never edit a posting then why even show me the "Edit" button in the first place?

Secondly I just had to edit this again because it lost all 5 attachments I added?

So whilst it's increased my attachment space _used_ it isn't actually showing the attachments I uploaded.

? for the items in bold. You do realize there is a time limit as to when editing is available?

Hmm. are you saying that the time hasn't past when it's showing me the Edit button? but it has when I've clicked it?

I'm questioning whether it shows me the edit button if the time has past in the first place or whether it shows it and then

when I click on it it's telling me I cannot edit. My point being there's no point in showing me it in the first place if it already knows I cannot edit the post.

After you uploaded did you use the "Manage Current Attachements" to actually add them into the post?

I don't have to do? I mean don't I simply upload them one by one and they are implicitly attached already? I've done this before and that's how it worked last time I think.

So say I've got those attachments in my quota now how do I actually use them then? And can I ever clean up old attachments that I no longer with to count against my quota?

They did have these white angel wings on.
At Oasis in Khon Kaen they've been having a housing sale promotion this week and the finale was a rather raunchy show by these two girls who call themselves "Sexy Bathing Angels"

This show was something to be seen. Imagine water and white swimming costumes and broad daylight.

Were the Angels wearing water wings? :o

  10. Whilst there are many types the two most common seem to be the Artek 2500 and that one that comes in blue, black and grey and usually has IBM Travelstar written on it. Anybody have any experience with the Artek 2500 model? 550 thb. supports SATA drives...

Has anybody tried any of those cheaper 2.5 USB 2.0 external drive enclosures?

There's a variety of them around but I'll assume they all use similar chipsets.

I have an older Macsales.com f/w 400 enclosure that I might swap out of as it's thicker than

those others and lacks any USB connectivity.

Is the throughput particuarly bad with these external enclosures or does it actually get close

    to 480 mb/s?

If I'm not mistaken I believe prolific makes the most highly regarded USB chipset.

I've just bought a Philips 2.5 inch drive case from Thanni.com - 260 Baht, came boxed with leads driver cd (for windows 98), a screwdriver and instructions. Brilliant - works really well. the only problem that I've encountered is my computer (laptop) won't go into standby with it plugged in.

  12. An example of Thai justice?

The Appeal Court sentences Pornphan Rattanametanon, a former popular singer, to 33 years and five months in jail for possessing amphetamines on Friday. The ruling increased the jail term as the Criminal court sentenced her to only eight years.

Is that the Triumphs Kingdom girl?

She did possess more than a users share of the pills.

  13. I have an N95 and the sat nav and the ability to _pre_load_ maps on it is a god send. Used it in London on a recent trip and it worked nicely. That said I may end up with an iphone but possibly second generation. The thing for me is that I need to sign a service agreement when I return to the states because I was out of contract and cancelled when I left so it might as well be for an iphone.

What is pushing the price of the N95 here down? it's 25k thb in some places now but there hasn't been any competitor released.

Conversely, those users who currently use other phones and who like to change every twelve months might like to change to the iPhone ;-)

People talk about pricing. $499 is not that much compared to many other new release phones (based model 4gb model). It depends on the Thai pricing, but the Nokia n95 (who's sole selling point seems to be the sat nav) is currently retailing in Bangkok for around 28,000, a good 60% above the price of the iPhone.

  14. Well I've never seen staff ever talking to passengers whilst chewing gum but the overall impression is that nobody smiles. This is typical of all of London really especially on the Tube and outside. I expect most of that because I think most Londoner's are generally miserable and I can certainly understand why. But there are simply too many people allowed in that airport who aren't travelling. As for the long lines I'd say it's similar or slightly worse to what I've seen in America. Overall the security experience is generally quicker than those I've experienced in America but I've never had to walk outside the terminal to get to my check in area before. What are you suppose to do if it's raining?

So then is it just Terminal 3 that's like this? I definately want to avoid T3 next time.

Good God, some people need to get out a bit more. London Heathrow like Bagdad? What a wally. FYI T3 is over 50 years old, built in the days of mainly propellor aircraft, and it's showing it's age. Yes the security screening is a pain in the butt but made more so by the jerks who don't read the instruction signs or think the rules are made for other prople. It's odd isn't it, why do we only hear Brits whining about airport security and not Israelis?

I shall be passing inbound through T3 tomorrow and again outbound on the 11th. I shall not enjoy the experience but it's something that has to be got through in order to travel. But whatever my experience is I most certainly will not be writing a pathetic whinging post on ThaiVisa about it.

Piece of advice. If you travel to a place expecting it to be sh1t you will end up looking for the sh1t and, not surprisingly, finding the sh1t. If you travel somewhere with an open mind you will be surprised at the good points you will find that, more or less, balance the bad ones. Low people have low expectations, that's why they are low.

  15. Just came back from a week in London and overall impressions of London were pretty low but generally I always have low expectations when travelling to the UK. But arriving and departing London's Terminal 3 is not a pleasant experience. First you're expected to walk outside to get anywhere and overall it's just dirty and run down. Now granted they are renovating and I look forward to seeing it when it's complete but that area is a high stress area for me. I even saw staff talking to people whilst chewing gum and chastising them for having overweight luggage. When we got to the departure gate there were vending machines in the room but none of them were turned on.

Is it this bad at other London airports? Perhaps I've been out of London for too long and expect too much.

  16. The way to get tough with Thaksin is to get tough with his family. His family and relatives are alleged accomplices in all crimes Thaksin is charged with. So try them and arrest them without bail citing flight risk based on previous "no-shows" until Thaksin comes back to defend himself of the charges. That's what they would do if they were serious about following up with this.

Then if they want to delay the proceedings thru legal maneuvers let them whilst they rot in jail.

  17. Their depot past On Nut claims to be out of stock and is awaiting an order from Singapore that could take 1 - 2 months. Since I'm on the completely opposite side of town I've decided I can probably wait until my next trip to to pick up the toothbrush. My relative-in-law will pick it up when they arrive. In the meantime I simply went and purchased a new unit closer to where I'm staying because I figure if I don't it's going to cost me in the long run at the dentist. So the rationale is that since I already have the travel charger with me I can leave the basestation of this new unit here (since that's the only place it will work) and just take the brush itself with me and use that with the travel charger.

They offered to discount the purchase of a completely new unit but that means going all the way to the opposite side of town which today just wasn't something I wanted to do and since I need the brush today I figure it's not going to hurt me to have two. So I have a choice when I come back from my next trip and that's to either get the replacement brush for 2.2k or buy a discounted unit for more but less than retail. If I do that later I'll have two basestations that I can only use in Thailand and the UK, Australia. So it probably makes sense just to wait for the brush unit by itself.

If I was closer to their location I would have purchased the discounted unit but it's just too far away

I wanted to compare the price of the heads though. Does anybody know what they sell for here?

I find that gillette mach 3 razor blades are about $3 cheaper here so I always take some of those back when I leave.

Did you have to wait for yours to arrive? They told us a month to order the unit. Yes my unit also needs replacing. I won't be here in a month though so not sure how to proceed. Probably cheapest price than anywhere is here so maybe I should just order and have a relative pick it up.
This toothbrush has meant that I always have a good experience when I go for my regular dental checkup but it's on the fritz. Doesn't do anything even though it shows fully charged. Probably battery related. Anyway, when I took it to the service center (with my Thai wife) the lady there suggested they may charge close to 2000 thb to fix it and that's just a little too high if it's a discharged battery so I'm wondering if anybody's seen this model for sale in Thailand and if so how much?

Boots stock the complete item about 4500 baht. However if its only the toothbrush you can obtain that from their service centre.

Diethelm Ltd, 2533 Sukhumvit Road Bangchack, Prakhanong, Bangkok 10260 Tel 2332 7140-63, mine cost 2290 baht for the toothbrush unit. My big gripe is that you cannot change the batteries only the whole unit and in that respect they do no seem to be as good as earlier models although when they are working they do a wonderful job on the teeth.

I went to their depot in Sukhumvit and picked up the new unit, with no wait. I have a good supply of brushes but I would be very suprised if they didnt supply those as well. I must admit it really does an excellent job and I wouldn't want to go back to a normal toothbrush.
