The release of the hostages was not linked to the ceasefire. They are separate demands. Your post implies otherwise -

Without release of the prisoners, no, I don't believe they will. That said, the demand for the ceasefire is not contingent on the release of the hostages. btw: what happened to your promise to prove that I condoned the Hamas terrorist attack? Did you provide that or back down? -

Smells like blackmail. The decision of the U.S. to abstain, rather than veto the resolution, is also Washington’s sharpest action to date at the United Nations against its ally. It also came ahead of an expected trip from top advisers to Netanyahu and Israeli government officials to Washington, as Israel and the U.S. find themselves at odds over a looming invasion of the southern Gazan city of Rafah. Israeli media reported ahead of the vote that Netanyahu threatened to cancel his officials’ trip to Washington to discuss, among other things, humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and plans for protecting civilians in a planned operation in Rafah if the U.S. failed to veto the resolution. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/25/us-un-resolution-cease-fire-row-with-israel-00148813 -

Hands up who thinks Israel will abide by the resolution. Judging by Netanyahu's reaction, I doubt it very much. He cancelled a trip to Washington -

The United Nations Security Council on Monday issued its first demand to halt the fighting in Gaza, calling for a cease-fire during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan after the U.S. abstained and drawing an immediate protest from the Israeli prime minister. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a planned visit to Washington by a high-level delegation and accused the U.S. of “retreating” from a “principled position” by allowing the vote to pass without conditioning the cease-fire on the release of hostages held by Hamas. The resolution passed 14-0 after the U.S. decided not to use its veto power on the resolution, which also demanded the release of all hostages taken captive during Hamas’ Oct. 7 surprise attack in southern Israel. https://apnews.com/article/un-gaza-ceasefire-resolution-vote-ramadan-b7985fede65e5477aba2c8d2e62a6632 -

Deputy Knesset speaker Nissim Vaturi from the ruling Likud party wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Israelis had one common goal, “erasing the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth.” Israeli Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu, from the far-right Jewish Power party, suggested that Israel drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza and said there were “no uninvolved civilians” in the territory. Lawyer Sfard appealed to the country’s attorney general earlier this month on behalf of a group of prominent Israeli figures, demanding to know why the rhetoric hasn’t been reined in. https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-south-africa-genocide-hate-speech-97a9e4a84a3a6bebeddfb80f8a030724 -

Sabri Saidam, a senior Fatah official, told me that the resignation of the government was designed to "open up the floor" to other factions - like Hamas - and give them "the space to reconsider their political stance, and their obligations in the future - and also their role, given the changes that have happened since 7 October". "We have been talking to Hamas indirectly," he said. "We have restated the importance of adhering to the […] two-state solution," referring to the idea that Israelis and Palestinians could live side-by-side in separate countries. "And we have received positive signs." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68636033 -

[AOC] doubled down on these comments Sunday, telling Tapper, “I think it is extremely clear and it is extremely important that all people understand the difference between people and their governments, Israelis and the Israeli government, Palestinians from Hamas.” “But what we are seeing here, I think, with a forced famine, is beyond our ability to deny or explain away. There is no targeting of Hamas in precipitating a mass famine of a million people, half of whom are children,” she continued. https://thehill.com/homenews/4552889-ocasio-cortez-defends-accusing-israel-of-genocide-i-believe-we-have-crossed-the-threshold-of-intent/ -

Absolute poverty: UK sees biggest rise for 30 years

Dunno, I have never been to the UK and grew up in the tropics. It just occurred to me that good insulation might explain why others paid so much for heating. People who rent tend to live in less well insulated houses from what I have read. -
I had the feeling he was already fairly old when I first arrived in Bangkok in 1980. Do you remember the shrimp calendars?

Being designated a terrorist organisation does not make every single member a terrorist. The nazis were war criminals but not every German soldier was a war criminal (just as an analogy before you get your panties in a knot). You know full well that the administration of Gaza is Hamas. It's irrational to just label every Hamas member as a terrorist. And that explains why Hamas sent condolences to Russia. I have no doubt most countries did likewise.
