  1. On December 8, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson clarified that Trump's statement "did not indicate any final status for Jerusalem" and "was very clear that the final status, including the borders, would be left to the two parties to negotiate and decide" in reference to the recognition's impact on the Israeli–Palestinian peace process. Trump's decision was rejected by the vast majority of world leaders; the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on December 7, where 14 out of 15 members condemned it, but the motion was overturned by U.S. veto power.
  2. Why Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel No country in the world recognises Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. In the 1948 war, following the UN’s recommendation to divide Palestine, Zionist forces took control of the western half of the city and declared the territory part of its state. During the 1967 war, Israel captured the eastern half of Jerusalem, which was under Jordanian control at the time, and proceeded to effectively annex it by extending Israeli law, bringing it directly under its jurisdiction, in a breach of international law. In response, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 478 in 1980, declaring the law “null and void”. The illegal Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem violates several principles under international law, which outlines that an occupying power does not have sovereignty in the territory it occupies. https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2017/12/10/why-jerusalem-is-not-the-capital-of-israel
  3. Translation: Israel doesn't want to contribute a shekel.
  4. I know. There are plenty in the West Bank. That's what Palestinians don't want to see in Gaza.
  5. I don't think that Gazans want Israel to rebuild anything. They would prefer to rely on international assistance. They know it would just mean more illegal Israeli settlements. If Israel was in charge of rebuilding then it would be planned by Israelis instead of Palestinians and Israeli construction companies would benefit from any international financial assistance, instead of Palestinian construction companies.
  6. It would be considered ethnic cleansing and also fits the definition of genocide The ICTR provided guidance into what constitutes a violation of the third act. In Akayesu, it identified "subjecting a group of people to a subsistence diet, systematic expulsion from homes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide
  7. There is no harm if Israel chooses not to create it. Revenge against the civilian population aka collective punishment is illegal. Again, your suggestion that Israel intends to rebuild all that it destroyed and return it to Gazans is preposterous. Point to where anyone made that suggestion. The argument is a furphy. edit: A furphy is Australian slang for an erroneous or improbable story that is claimed to be factual. Furphies are supposedly heard from reputable source
  8. He did say legitimate criticism. Nobody is suggesting that arson is legitimate criticism.
  9. They can't be displaced in the first instance. It's ethnic cleansing. End of. It's frankly ridiculous to believe that Kushner wants to rebuild Gaza with lovely seafront properties and give it all back to the Gazans. A risible suggestion in my view.
  10. Despite the headline this video is largely about this topic.
  11. Irrelevant. You can choose to believe he doesn't mean Gaza should be repopulated by Israeli property developers if you wish. I choose not to. The initial displacement is illegal under international law.
  12. "Moving the people out" is displacement of a civilian population in whole or in part. That's does constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing.
  13. Netanyahu remains intransigent and advocates further genocide by "evacuating" Rafah civilians. And prevents Palestinians from conducting annual religious rituals.
  14. deleted. I misread this topic as being the US budget.
  15. A public figure who was part of the previous administration advocating genocide is what Kushner has to do with this.
  16. It would seem we may not need to wait for the election to start to see accountability in the US House. The "freedom party", previously known as the "tea party" has kicked another own goal. Only one to go Republican House majority to shrink as Mike Gallagher steps down A former US marine who twice deployed to Iraq, Gallagher, 40, is a relatively moderate voice in party at the mercy of the far right. He had already announced his decision to retire but in a statement on Friday he said: “After conversations with my family, I have made the decision to resign my position … effective 19 April. The announcement came shortly after Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, an extremist even in a party held hostage by its far right, responded to the passage of a Democrat-backed funding bill by filing a motion to remove Mike Johnson, the speaker from Louisiana. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/22/republican-house-majority-mike-gallagher
  17. Until the ginormous transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich as experienced over the past 50 years is addressed and tax avoiding mega corporations are forced to actually pay some tax the situation will get worse. The current inflation only exacerbates the problem as those with assets see an increase in their wealth while those without see only higher prices for staples. Wealth — the value of a household’s property and financial assets, minus the value of its debts — is much more highly concentrated than income. The best survey data show that the share of wealth held by the top 1 percent rose from 30 percent in 1989 to 39 percent in 2016, while the share held by the bottom 90 percent fell from 33 percent to 23 percent. https://www.cbpp.org/research/poverty-and-inequality/a-guide-to-statistics-on-historical-trends-in-income-inequality
  18. I assume not. The resulting carbon footprint was equivalent to that of burning 84 billion pounds of coal or operating 190 natural gas-fired power plants. To offset this footprint, 3.9 billion trees should be planted, covering an area almost equal to the area of the Netherlands, Switzerland, or Denmark or 7% of the Amazon rainforest. During this time period, Bitcoin's water footprint was similar to the amount of water required to fill over 660,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, enough to meet the current domestic water needs of more than 300 million people in rural sub-Saharan Africa. https://unu.edu/press-release/un-study-reveals-hidden-environmental-impacts-bitcoin-carbon-not-only-harmful-product
  19. That was alleged in the Chechen opera attack. It does smell like deja vue.
  20. The accused aren't normally allowed to sit on the jury. edit: going to Starbucks Pattaya Beach for morning coffee to help sharpen my wit. Back soon for more, stay tuned. 🙂
