  1. It wasn't his job to second guess a politician. He is a full time military officer and should keep out of politics.

  3. THE HAGUE, March 7 (Reuters) - Ukraine will ask the United Nations' top court on Monday to issue an emergency ruling requiring Russia to stop its invasion, arguing that Moscow's justification for the attack is based on a faulty interpretation of genocide law. read more Although the court's rulings are binding and countries generally follow them, it has no direct means of enforcing them. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraine-russia-face-off-world-court-over-genocide-claim-2022-03-06/
  4. Since Ukraine has invited foreign nationals they are protected by the Geneva Convention and international law as prisoners of war if they are captured. Russia would be breaking the Geneva Convention with this notice. " Ukraine’s embattled president has issued a call to foreign nationals who are “friends of peace and democracy” to travel to the country to fight against the Russian invasion. The appeal from Volodymyr Zelenskiy, published on the Ukrainian presidency’s website early on Sunday, said the Ukrainian armed forces were in the process of setting up a foreign legion unit for international volunteers." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/feb/27/ukraine-appeals-for-foreign-volunteers-to-join-fight-against-russia Definition of mercenaries Additional Protocol I defines a mercenary as a person who: a) is specially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict; b) does, in fact, take a direct part in the hostilities; c) is motivated to take part in the hostilities essentially by the desire for private gain and, in fact, is promised, by or on behalf of a Party to the conflict, material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces of that Party; d) is neither a national of a Party to the conflict nor a resident of territory controlled by a Party to the conflict; e) is not a member of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict; and f) has not been sent by a State which is not a Party to the conflict on official duty as a member of its armed forces.[10] https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/customary-ihl/eng/docindex/v1_rul_rule108
  5. Unhelpful would be the kindest spin I could put on your comment.
  6. I took his post at face value but it was obviously a deceptive spin aka propaganda.
  7. Moldova on Thursday formally applied to join the European Union. The move was likely to rile Moscow, which has an estimated 1,500 troops based in the breakaway region of Transnistria in Moldova’s east. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/us-top-diplomat-praises-moldova-taking-refugees-neighbor-ukraine-2022-03-06/
  8. He's not stereotyping anybody, he's criticising bigots. Which group of people is he stereotyping? Those who gratuitously bash Thais?
  9. so am I. “The downing of MH17 with a Buk missile brutally ended the lives of all 298 people on board. Incredibly deep and irreversible suffering has been caused to the next of kin,” Ridderbeks told the court. Prosecutors accuse Russians Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinsky and Igor Pulatov, as well as Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko, who were separatist rebels fighting Ukrainian government forces in 2014, of forming a team that aimed to bring down Ukrainian planes using a missile system trucked in from a Russian military base. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/12/22/dutch-prosecutors-demand-life-sentences-in-mh17-downing
  10. Defense against artillery fire from Russian backed separatists. We know they were backed by Russia because they shot down a civilian airliner with Russian missiles which were trucked across the border.
  11. That might work for payments within China but it certainly won't work in Europe or the US who will sanction the bank or block payments from Russians. It's possible that Thailand may be forced to follow suit if that happens.
  12. That is a war crime but it is not genocide or "extermination". It is a massacre and it isn't a pretext for an invasion 9 years later. The ICC who Russia does not recognise is the relevant authority for international war crimes. Russia should recognise the ICC and refer this matter to them. As it happens the ICC have gone to Ukraine now to investigate war crimes committed by BOTH sides.
  13. no surprises there. Assad is totally beholden to the Russians who keep him in power.
  14. The U.S. remains in discussions with Poland to potentially backfill their fleet of fighter planes if Warsaw decides to transfer its used MiG-29s to Ukraine, four U.S. officials tell POLITICO. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/03/05/white-house-deal-fighter-jets-ukraine-00014424
  15. I think Putin has painted himself into a corner now and is looking for a pretext to start a world war. He's a psychopath and knows he's a dead man walking either way.
  16. Why not suggest that Russia stops bombing civilians adn gets out of Ukraine instead of making suggestions which would only provide Russia with a pretext to escalate it's war crimes?
  17. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Western powers against imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine https://www.rawstory.com/putin-warns-against-nato-imposing-no-fly-zone-over-ukraine/
  18. The US is not opposed to Poland giving Ukraine its old Russian fighter jets but it won't unless it can get replacements from the US which is problematic because of sensitive avionics aboard those aircraft.
  19. My complaint was that the post contributed nothing of value and did not further the debate in any useful way.
  20. Russian media cited an unnamed source on Sunday as saying that Ukraine was close to building a plutonium-based "dirty bomb" nuclear weapon, although the source cited no evidence. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-without-evidence-says-ukraine-making-nuclear-dirty-bomb-2022-03-06/
