  1. What happens when the "killer" variant finally evolves. The one where the chance of survival just plummets. It's a very real possibility given what little we know about the mutations that have evolved this year.

Apart from Covid, what black swans are waiting in the wings, the stuff that will happen anyway?

Social unrest, now amplified with every day of the poor and middle class being squeezed out of tourism earnings, and the ripple effects of that? What happens then?

What happens when the neglected road toll, where the critically injured are in the several hundreds a day, can't be patched up because the hospital system is overwhelmed with the variant trashing India and already here, spreading exponentially, not linear, which is terrifying because, the daily figures are about a week behind of where the virus is already spreading, undetected.

The coup did the economy and treasury no favours, the military budget has tripled since the coup, and most of it apparrently does not even go into procurement, if the neverending tales of watch collections, and pointless memorial parks etc are true, you think?

What happens then?  S**t happens, big time.

  2. Today's grimm fairytale from Khun Pipat the pipe-dream salesman.

If tourists are vaccinated, as they should be, why would they be concerned about Thais being vaccinated or not?

If they are concerned, then stay home.

Conversely, why restrain vaccinated tourists to a "sandbox"? If vaccinated people can transmit Covid, then they should not be entering at all, because "sandboxes" are not effective defenses against viruses, so long as ANY people are moving in and out of Phuket to other parts of the nation.

Look, the place is either good to go on the strength of vaccinations or its not!

They don't seem to understand even the basics of Covid recovery strategies being implemented successfully overseas.

Also, we do all, I hope, now understand that Covid is going to be swirling about with the flu and all the other airborne nasties forever, vaccinations or not.

The response seems to yaw wildly between extreme paranoia that's only resolved with 31 steps of insane red-tape to even get to the check-in at your home airport, or delusional dreams of tourist arrivals from a covid-free place called fantasyland, with a functional airline schedule, then there's outdated and ham-fisted responses to social mingling based on last years data. Imagine the "joy" of coming here, only to find the cops have closed the beach and pool again, because there's a new outbreak, There's also a delusional lack of awareness that they are not the only ones with travel restrictions, that it will take months to make parked aircraft fit to fly in any great numbers, and even that all of the above, is subject to the world economy, which is subject to Covid responses, they cant seem to accept that Covid is mutating to be worse,, and will continue to do so, because it clearly can, and that any and all grand schemes for reopening will cause new outbreaks until the nation is vaccinated to the point normal life can resume.

The virus calls the shots, not the TAT.

Is it possible they are actually protecting us by not contacting us, a non interference stance. May be its better in our stage of development we dont know more.

Yes, I think it's possible that they are "scientist-explorers" and observe us the way Jane Goodall studies apes. She would never interfere in ape colony feuds, for example. I also think the concept of war makes no sense to them, and they possibly don't posess weapons at all. They probably do understand we're trigger-happy and spook easily, therefore we're the most dangerous species on the planet bar none, and thats why they only go near kids or lone unarmed adults!

It's telling that the female ex NAVY aviator 60 Minutes interviewed mentioned she was concerned that they were not carrying live ordnance, I get it, but there you go, our instict is to 'shoot first!"

I agree that if they contacted world leaders, it would likely cause a meltdown, for starters every religion in the world would not look particularly up to speed, because what if these guys were "Gods" to the ancients, and just tell us all that holy stuff is just badly handed down CE3K stories?

Clearly they seem to slip through time, and seem to defy known physics, as their craft can move at great speed, stop in a nanosecond, and yet no sound of rushing air or sonic booms.

  4. For this discussion:

Lets presume that UFOs are a given.

Lets presume that the lucid encounters with humans, eg the US military, but particularly, groups of children, did occur, since there are also two credible and searchable reports from Australia in the 60s and Zimbabwe in the 90s by multiple witnesses, apart from the few credible and well-known US encounters.

It's clear from the technology the craft demonstrate, that they could likely "zap" us before breakfast if they really wanted to, but they've never reportedly harmed any human that's ever allegedly encountered them.

    Where are they from?

Why did they telepathically "warn" the Zimbabwe kids about "technology"?

Why are they not attempting to contact World governments?

Will they let us destroy ourselves?

    Did they create us?

Of course, these are questios we can only hypothesize upon.

I was discussing the US Government developments with an old friend last night who I know well, he then told me a story about an encounter while sailing offshore Atlantic in the 1980s and 6 other people were on the yacht as well, they saw a disc with amber lights around the rim, on the horizon, it zoomed up to them in a blink, hovered overhead for maybe a minute, he says they could not guess the "scale" of it as they didnt know how far it was above them, he said it was totally silent, it then zipped off over the horizon (but no sonic boom!).

It's consistent with every other credible report out there.

Anyway, I'm just curious what you all think, and given the decades this has been going on, I'm convinced it is not US adversaries, as they were all incapable of anything close to the performance of these craft, in fact no  human technology exists to even chase these things, they could probably outrun every weapon humans posess.

    Your thoughts?

  5. Covid is airborne.  Since we all gotta breathe, it's best then to do it where there is as much fresh moving air as possible, sunlight also kills viruses.

That means, closing open spaces and disinfecting surfaces is not the solution, neither are these silly screens at food courts and music venues, they're now believed to help spread the virus, because they limit the free-flow of fresh air.

It also means this thing is going to crush this economy until they get at least 70% vaxxed, and then keep it up, forever.

    Tha'ts what it means.

  6. 12 Thousand prisoners, and infection is exponential, not linear. thats unnerving to consider.

So just imagine how much less of a headache it would be if the 80% who are inside -were not there to begin with, for non-violent drug use,!

What if they just paid a fine for having a few grams of whatever makes them happy?

The world in 2021 is a miserable misguided mess. We're runnng a digital game with iron-age leadership and laws. Worldwide.

So, after car insurance - utilities and university of your kids and the dogs,  probably 50% of your expenses goes to alcohol consumption?

And I thought I had to slow down my average 500 Baht a week alcohol consumption, as I considered myself an alcoholic consuming that much.

Oh you could easily hit that with a penchant for even mid-range wine in this uniquely xenophobic tax system. Wine producing nations should all slap 2000% tax on Red Bull and maybe the local tax robber-barons would come to their senses. Like so many "brilliant" ideas here, it's self-defeating in the long run, because I alone would drink much more wine, and imported beer here if the prices were sensible. I have mostly given up drinking habitually here, anyway now. A bottle of wine or three a moth now if I'm lucky.

  8. Didn't high ranking officials "failing to disclose information" start this third wave mess in the first place? The usual suspects, the top brass, pointing the finger downstairs as always, it's only a matter of time now before the masses get sick of it -and turn as one.

Also, maybe the scientific fact that the variants are far more virulent has also got something to do with it?

  9. I came here to the CM board to find out if anyone has taken the plane to and from CNX/BKK this month. I have to go down to BKK on a day trip to sign some property transfer forms.

Yes, in any rational place, I could Google this info, but, judging from the media here, the rules change by the day, by the province, and by the mood of the Governor.

I could start a new thread, but it does seem redundant as its basically the same questuon:  Can I currently (this week) move in and out of CM without being sequestered by paranoid health authorities? Is anyone doing the CNX/BKK shuttle  regularly and recently?

    Thanks.

Geez no idea what some people spend cash on after reading a few pages of this thread lol.

Just the wife and me, no kids or family-spongers, both retired, no rent, cheap utilities, cheap wifi, car won in lottery 4 years go so minimal expense now, don't go far.

I am lucky if I spend 20k a month and that would include a montly trip to BigC/Makro around once a month, and food from several mail order suppliers. Occasional purchase like fridge etc.

What we did spend pre-covid were regular monthly holidays to Hua Hin or Pattaya but since these have all stopped for a year now I am actually saving to the bank every month. I transfer to Krung Thai and, well, it stays in Krung Thai. I now have about 100k waiting for the next holiday, it will be a good one! Helped by the recent exchange rate.

Never been a cheap Charlie, but I have everything I need, and so does the wife.

When you order food online (mail-order) is that foreign brands? I ask because Im a bit tired of paying +$10 for breakfast cereal. Though with the baht tanking that will not get better. It seems up or down, we cant freaking win!

We have no rent/mortgge, eat or order out at least 3 times a week, enjoy about 1-2K worth of wine a month so 2-3 bottles 555. Fly or drive about every 2-3 months for short breaks, And I agree that the monthly retirement requirement of B65K more than covers both our expenses with 20K or so to spare.

Over 3 million, for a family of 4. Was hoping I'd be able to save; no way. Isaan is expensive, probably more that Pattaya, when you take the whores and booze out of the picture.

Genuinely curious, whats driving your costs in isaan that make it pricier than Pattaya? I presume your comment compares both places, minus the wine women and song.

Having said that, when I had a domestic vacay in 2018 in Pattaya at Songkran, I was amazed to learn that a week at my tourist-class hotel on Soi 8 with hot breakfast included, cost LESS than weekly rent for an unfurnished unit in Sydney.

  12. I dont go over B600,000 since the new scam minimum banked cash order was enforced.

It irks me that a million baht a year is, for my spending patterns, a mandatory minimum to satisfy absurd seasoning rules, and the 400,000 floor on spending. makes little sense, as the money is supposed to be for spending, and are they not actually pleading for Thais to spend more right now?

I am seriously considering a marriage visa, as my girl has been with me for years, and though that relairionship has been volatile, as they can be, when the dust settles, her overall integrity has not raised any alarm bells.
