The ubiquity of mobile payments in Thailand
Lorry replied to JTXR's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Don't you know how incredibly efficient, convenient and fast mobile payments are? Just ask Liverpool Lou and the tax office -
Retirement extension Chaeng Wattana 16th May 2024

I did walk from the pink line station to the soi entrance, 3 days ago. Construction is finished, easy walking. MRT staff directed me, his English was better than mine. Only 2 motorcycles at the soi entrance, that's true. Buses are there during rush hours, they serve mainly the staff. NB there are 2 sois into government complex: an eastern one, right next to NT Telecom, the first one if you come from Laksi. This is the one I am talking about. 5 minutes walk towards east from the MRT. The other way into government complex is after the consular building (at the western stairs of the MRT). Not so easy to catch a motorcycle here. -
Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax

I plan to bring less than the allowed amount, but would like to declare it, to have a paper trail. I am afraid that will be a problem. They certainly will not understand. -
Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax

Same as Mike. No fuss at all, but it wasn't a million US. Home country customs asked for the purpose. Standard answer "I want to buy a car". Standard reply from customs "Yeah, that's what most say" (In Thailand using cash is not yet illegal) -
That was my thinking too, when I threw my microwave away in my home country. Turned out the new one (cheapest I could find, 2.4k) was a shoddy piece of plastic from China. It gets stuff lukewarm, that's good enough for me. The one I threw away was in the price range of 15k up. After this experience and reading AN, today I had my microwave fixed. Fuse and condenser replaced, 957 THB. BigC sells new ones from Toshiba for 1790, they are not bad. The one I have sells second-hand for 2000.

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
Lorry replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Since 2005 I have bought tickets originating in Bangkok in 2 ways. I was physically sometimes in Thailand, sometimes not. 1. I bought myself from the airline that operates the flight, using their website or their ticket counter. Various European and Asian airlines Price -billing and payment - was always in THB. 2. I bought through an intermediary (a travel agent or an airline which didn't operate the flight) not based in Thailand. Flight was with various Arab, European and Asian airlines, including TG. Price - billing and payment - was never in THB, it was USD (if the intermediary was American) or EUR (usually if the intermediary was European). Payment was never in Thailand. I never chose the currency, I payed whatever they wanted. -

2 airbags for every passenger: one for falling up (hitting the ceiling), one for falling down again -
I am in the same position as OP and plan to do what you wrote. I am still wondering whether I should go to the Samsung Service Center and see whether it can cheaply be fixed. After reading from 2 posters that repair may be easy, I will try this. PS in my home country I recently threw away a very good professional microwave for restaurants made in Germany, because everybody told me to just buy a new one. Problem was the same as in OP. The new one was a shoddy piece of plastic made in China. I really should follow AN more diligently :)

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
Lorry replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
This has been discussed in extenso a long time ago, and, no, no reputable source. Just common sense and the RC. The practical consequences if they really want non-residents to file taxes, even in years you are not in Thailand at all - have fun! (Example: first trip ever to Thailand Jan +Feb 2024, go back to work in Sweden until Aug 2024, stay in Thailand Sep 2024 - Feb 2025. Leave and never come back. In 2025 you need to file taxes in Thailand for 2024. In 2026, when you have all but forgotten Thailand, you have to file taxes for the money you spent Jan and Feb 2025, it can easily be over the threshold where you don't have to pay anything) But in Thailand and in tax offices, common sense is not a reputable source. -
So this is not about taxes ? Especially when I read your other tax thread? You worried when the IO looked too long at your passport... Someone in another tax thread found it hilarious how people discuss their more or less illegal plans on the internet. I agree. BTW Mike's answer is not quite correct, but I am not giving you the correct answer.

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax

Thx. So it's useful if you have Thailand sourced income It is not useful if you want to bring money into Thailand to spend it in Thailand, but you are reluctant to pay up to 35% on the money you bring to spend here -

All Thai mutual funds are tax free, not only infrastructure funds or similar things. Including all the feeder funds they sell, where you effectively get exposure to foreign mutual funds (like Schroeder or whatever) That's routine at BBLAM, SCB asset management, Krungsri asset management and all the others. About foreign mutual funds, I don't know. It wasn't a question until know. -

I buy most of my tickets SOTI. Yes, if you want to fly with TG they are very reluctant to do this. But flying Arab airlines I never paid THB, and the tickets were never issued in Thailand, even travel started in BKK. Good to know that TG is now 35% more expensive. -
Lazada now says again, it wasn't our tracking number, so you didn't order with us. They ignore all the screenshots sent to them. I know how impossible it is to fight these internet monsters in my own country if they don't want to help you. And if Lazada is in on it you have no chance. Thai police don't do anything against Chinese companies (see the scamming industry across the border, where Thailand even provides the necessary telecom infrastructure).

Agreed. Also agreed. ???? How? Are you bring facetious? The way I see it: From Shopee or Lazada one can only buy cheap stuff or stuff where the packaging shows what's inside. A phone is the opposite: any brick may be in there, and most phones are not cheap. Contrary to what many people think, COD is no protection at all. Or you say, I had 100 good buys with Lazada/Shopee, I don't mind being defrauded on the 101st one, possibly with the help of Lazada/Shopee

Isarn - quaint rural exploring + accommodation - your experience?
Lorry replied to henrik2000's topic in Isaan
I like it a lot. It is a college town, though, and they do have a Starbucks. Everything south from Sarakham, Yang Sisurat, Payak, Thatum until Surin is about the most boring region you can find in Thailand. Defintely no fine dining and no Instagram. Highlights may be the tower of Thatum and the truck owner in Payak looking for a foreign spouse. You might like it. -
Exercise, exercise, exercise. You need strong thighs, the stronger, the better. Bob and Brad are good, but very old school. Try to find additionally a more modern physical therapist, maybe in the Naval Hospital? Google "GLAD" = " Good Living with Arthrosis in Denmark", they reduced the need for knee surgery a lot. Lose weight Avoid sitting in Thai restaurants, their "chairs" are made for dwarfs. If you must use them (yes, its squatting, not sitting) carry a thick pillow with you and sit on the pillow. A bar stool is better.

A friend ordered a cheap phone, COD. He opened the package in the presence of the delivery guy, but after handing over the money. That was a mistake. The package contained a phone, yes, even an iPhone, not the Android he had ordered. But it was a model from 20 years ago, and not even working. The delivery guy didn't give him back the money. Within 7 minutes after delivery, my friend complained with Lazada. They said, it was not their tracking code, so he hadn't ordered through Lazada. The seller doesn't respond to messages. The seller sent the package under a fake name (he used as name a common English racial slur) and a not existing address (I didn't know this was possible - if I send just a small parcel worth a dollar through Kerry or the post office I must show my passport) Unfortunately for them, my friend had every step of the purchase documented with screenshots. Lazada then found, that it was their order, after all, gave him some blabla and have him wait 3 days. Let's see what will happen. BTW the "store" is still "selling"
