  1. What do you do to prevent mosquitoes from breeding (thinking of dengue)?
  2. ad 1: maybe you don't know it, but there is preventive healthcare in Thailand. Starts with immunizations after birth. ad 2: Thailand is a higher middle income country
  3. The "crap" didn't come from the lungs but from the airways. That's why it wasn't water but sputum (phlegm)
  4. Sounds a lot like this. But really should ask the doctors
  5. The guys playing with them are the tourists, not the pensioners. Especially younger tourists
  6. This is an exaggeration just as the wrong as the pensioners who think they carry all the weight of the Thai economy. A tourist spends a high daily average for 2 or 3 weeks, but a lot of this money does not arrive at the Thai economy, it goes to foreign companies, Hilton, Emirates etc. Of course, these big lump payments are easily taxed by brown envelopes, so decision makers in Thailand like them. Pensioners spend all year round, not only two of three years. They spend lump sums that go directly into the Thai economy, like condos, cars, washing machines. Their daily average i do not dare to guess. I know pensioners whose daily average is incredible low. Personally, I spend much, much more per day since I live here than when I was a tourist. in aggregate, tourists are, of course, much more important because they are many more.
  7. Sheryl's translation is not quite correct. น้ำท่วมปอด naamthuam bawt " flooded lungs" pulmonary edema bawt = lungs naamthuam we probably all know, especially now in the rainy season https://ch9airport.com/th/ภาวะ-น้ำท่วมปอด/ Translate the website with Google, as gf probably did, and you get the flooded lungs. The site also gives you the usual reason: heart failure. Not so unusual with young, poor Thais, to have an undetected heart defect. Not to confuse with ปอดบวม bawt buam "swollen lungs" pneumonia โรคปอดบวม bawt buam = ปอดอักเสบ bawt aksep "inflamed lungs" pneumonia http://www.medparkhospital.com/disease-and-treatment/pneumonia
  8. Addressed to individual taxpayers. Me too, a friend too, and another member mentioned this letter a couple of weeks ago in one of the tax threads
  9. Interpol does not review cases brought to them. That's why a government can easily get a red notice for a dissident who fled the country: they just accuse him of terrorism
  10. I have had BBL staff copy picture page and also visa page, at a routine visit, as a long- standing customer. Very obvious, because a very small branch and you can see them making the copies. I remember very well because it pissed me off. And I had, not long ago, read on TV that they do this. So I was like " oh, they really do this" I think they even made me sign both copies, but I could be mistaken. Whether they always had done this before, I don't know, I never paid attention.
  11. Happened to me in 2021 at CW There was a thread about this at the time, I was not the only one Later others sometimes reported the same
  12. It sounds like you compare your country's public system to Thailand's private system. In Thailand's public hospitals, you can wait months for a specialist. I don't find Thailand's health system very good (even the private system). It is very good considering that Thailand is not a rich country. The Economist compares it with surrounding countries. But they also compare it with rich countries. A main metric the Economist stresses is the high life expectancy of Thais, longer than Americans and Europeans (they don't say whether their statistics of Europe include countries like Russia and Ukraine, probably yes). But Thais are by far not (yet) as fat, immobile and lonely as Westerners. They have a combination of a (still) reasonable lifestyle and a (already) reasonable health care system
  13. A minority, maybe 30% or 40%

  15. But you know that foreigners have been deported because they wrote things on the internet that were considered unflattering for Thailand? And of course it would be libel to name the school
  16. If they got only 3 shots, that means no XBB shot That's the one they need now
  17. People in Taiwan now wear even less masks than in Thailand. Old people usually do wear masks, but their young relatives don't. Since May, masks are not compulsory anymore in healthcare facilities. They do sell N95s in convenience stores, though. The disinfectant craze of the last years has completely disappeared, it's hard to find a dispenser, and then it's empty or out of use. That's a problem, because the lack of value Chinese culture puts on cleanliness is what brought us covid in the first place. And, as mentioned, the constant barrage of the anti-vaxxers and covid deniers has finally had some effects in Taiwan, too.
  18. You can insert first Bangkok into the search box, click to get results, then insert Phuket into the search box to get a detailed comparison between Bangkok and Phuket Phuket is not on the list, but it's searchable.
  19. Doesn't have to be a poor family. Even if she is from a middle class family, the wealth gap is usually so big that "going Dutch" would be very rude. Some guys do live from their Thai girlfriends, but most follow the rule "each according to his abilities". Which is good, but expensive.
  20. We all know that your wife is a rich, highly educated Chinese Thai from a wealthy family. So are the wives of many AN posters. I hereby explicitly exclude them from my post.
  21. Correct. Reasonable if they want to sell to farang. I would expect this. Surprisingly, I have never noticed a building in Thailand without a 4th floor, but many without a 13th floor. Protect the falang, but let the Chinese die? 9 is a lucky number for Thais. (8 for Thai Chinese and Chinese generally)
  22. I have heard of this practice (only return once) at another store, not JIB. Is this common practice in Thailand?
  23. The biggest cost of living in Bangkok: 1. You have to pay for your girl(s), either because she is a whore or because she is just so much poorer than you. Not mentioned in the site 2. Health. Not mentioned in the site. 3. Education. Mentioned in the site. But it is a very interesting site.
  24. She can do it at every cash deposit machine, using OP's card and PIN or her own card and PIN Yes, you can. It's the land of the free, here.
