I went to Vientiane about this time last year with my Burmese wife, married in Thailand and they denied her the Non O visa and said to go back to Chiang Mai Immigration, while CM Immigration clearly stipulated that the Non O must be acquired outside the country. They only consented to give a tourist visa. Snake biting its tail. Finally, a shady agent fixed the situation by arranging a retirement Non O for her, for 30k. I am hearing that Savannakhet might be friendlier than Vientiane.

Thailand has a very gentle, uncomplicated and user friendly administration. The Immigration dept that we all know is a prime example of the humanity and kindness Thailand is famous for. A huge web of corruption wraps the whole society like a giant rubber band but on the face, the law is feared and respected. What I find terrible and somehow incomprehensible is that when you go to a newer mall toilets, they don't have the bum gun, just paper. WTF? It seems like the architects or management of the mall strive to have a contemporary western look and amenities. They bypass centuries of customs, really healthy, to look modern. What a shame and miscalculation on their part.

Don't try to get the Non O for your wife in Vientiane Laos. They denied the Non O visa and gave my wife a tourist visa only. I hear Savannaket might be more amenable to issue but I think it is better to call in advance and enquire if they will issue the Non O visa for dependant wife. Good luck.

To follow up on this enigma, I called AIS fiber service to enquire whether it could be that they throttle in some instances or moments of the day. They sent technicians to my home and they found a bent cable which they said was causing the problem. They denied that AIS would throttle and said the cable was the only reason for buffering. In reality, after 2 evenings of watching TV, it still buffers at times but less than before. Progress but not full recovery is how I would characterize the situation. I use a Thailand based IPTV provider and a VPN to watch my favorite channels in the world. Recently, say 2-3 weeks, the signal freezes after 10 minutes of play, no matter what channel or what VPN connection I establish. It feels as AIS can detect by the flow of signal that I am watching TV and then decides to throttle my signal. I check the strength of my signal and it is great, above 150 mps .It seems to happen mostly in the evening. Anyone else has that occurrence ? Do you believe they can do that ? I mean technically, is it possible ? Any suggestion to fix that ?

Hi, I was there last week to obtain a Non O for my Burmese wife as spouse of a retiree 1 year visa (myself Canadian). It was denied. Instead they changed the application and gave a 60 days TR type tourist visa. I would strongly suggest you call them first and enquire if they will grant the type of visa you require. Get an OK from them before you travel.
