  1. 22 years ago prior to coming here, in a book about THailand was written, THais generally will find any way to circumnavigate the laws and that also includes using any vehicle and ignoring those laws . After all this time I have concluded there is almost ZERO enforcement by the POLICE WHO ARE OFTEN ALso breaking the laws,as well. The fines for serious offences are paltry plus any court cases apply the law correctly which the Police do not. So the Genera; PUBL:IC have no fear of the POLICE, the :Law or anything else for that matter `. Al;so what amazes me the indurance companies pauy out even if the vehicle involved is unroadworthy or being driven by a law breaker. . In other words ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY and everyone knows it !!!
  2. GREat talk about stupid, all ideas stated are pointless, when you have LACK OF ENFORCEMENT, achieved only by boots on the ground . Basically POLICE operating roving patrols stopping vehicles being visible ( not hiding in tents looking at phones ) Over 22 years here , hardly ever see a POLICE CAR DRIVING AROUND acting as a deterrent, rarely seen Buses and Lrries stopped, , was stopped once by an officer who said nothing and just shoved a breathalyser into my face and said blow . I asked for it to be cleaned he laughed. There is no fear anongst drivers of any mechanically powered vehicle as they all know the Police are only after cash from fines and even allow the offender to finish their trip after being fined even for serious offences. Example ...MAN DRIVING < No licence, no excise sticker and NO insurance . fined whatever it is and then allowed to continue. Who is at fault now the MaN OR THE POLICE for allowing that vehicle driven by an unlicensed person ??
  3. BEST Way to r3educe accidents apart from POLICE actions is to remove ALL drivers#riders with NO licences, remove all drivers with NO insurace , stop all lorries on holidays. with 50% less vehicles job done
  4. Thai POLICE SHOULD TAKE A leaf out of a REAL Police Force ( Brit Police ), arrest him and put him in custody then deal with the problem. Laughing at a drunk always inflames them but here laughter is a means to hide true feelings.
  5. Leave it a few days and then suddenly check, no warning and no letting them know and then see what is happening. Thasi POLICEALWays warn people they are coming. GOOD Policemen never tell they just act. ( NO CORRUPTION SEE )
  6. SWopm,e sensible suggestions, but all it will really m,ean is M ORE Pooice Officers sitting under tents looking at phones while the cars etc speed by. Only emerging AFTER an accident or problem. BOOTS on the ground , visible presence , randomly stopping all transport and checking . something never seen here and that is one reason why I never travel on most public transport unless it is a train.
  7. It is very simple to boost Tourism. Offer value for money, Clean and pleasant attractions, with clean working toilets. Do away with all the polluting food stalls offering bad food. DO AWAY WITH All scams, AND make the OFFICIALS AND Tourist workers polite. SIMPLE Really but not seems Thainess and attitude and tourism generally do not work, but re-educating the entire Tourism industry is hard work, not made better by flunkies offering new ways when the old ways mentioned above always work.
  8. Welcome to the world of immediate internet. the Thasi Government cannot control every aspect of peoples lives and well doner as well, by highlighting the problem this video has caused . many will now travel to this SOI to make sure the government is telling the truth. Sure it is not an ideal place to take lady, but then most LADIES would not go there unless take there by their men. . !!!!!!!!!!!
  9. JUDGING BY some comments, you expect intelligence from RTP OFFICERS, sadly yes we do, but this was an OFFICER FROM THE CENTRAL Educational ESTABLISHMENT OF THE RTP, so what are the standards of the teachers, very low it seems .
  10. Sadly after over 20 years of living here I have known many cases where parents offer their children in order to make some money, not unheard of and not limited to tourist venues. Too often the pretty girls find that thier bodies make more if they succumb to9 the advances of males, sad tale buit historically we all know it to be true. Tkes a wise m,an to recognise and reject the advances, my lesson is to ask for ID Card, and take photo of it, those who do not will probably be legal and those who lie will never supply ID Card.
  11. I aGREE IF SEEN DAngling dangerously, cut and remove, someone will soon repair then you can sue
  12. Oh dear obviously the LOSS of brown envelopes will be hurting, and ANY Real Navy man worth anything knows that The waters around most of Thailand are TOO shallow for submarine work and judging by the use of the Air Craft carrier Thailands Navy does not exactly venture too far from its home shores.
  13. See start with Chinese Police Patrols and NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell Thailand top control its MEDIA, this country of basically free speech can say what it likes about anything it wants. Except according to Autocratic Bejing Taiwan ... Bull<deleted> !
  14. May I correct you we have had western volunteers not necessarily ex-police, as an exz-copper I WAs asked if I WIshed to join, sadly their work ethics ( Thai police )are so bad I declined after one outing. The Chinese Police care little for HUMASN RIGHTS saw them operating in HK just after take over and I doubt they have improved. A silent way of handing this sovereign country opver to Chinese influence and actions.
  15. Good article BUT sadly of little use to ordinary families as too often Thai Egos and Thai Culture override normal behaviour . Seen too often the so-called MAN of the house does exactly what he wants and the WIFE has to pick up the pieces, you only have to look at how many broken families there are where the man just walks away without a single care or punishment or even cost. On the surface people will laud the efforts buty the public will know the truth nothing will happen just money spent and plaudits said.
  16. In truth it is a play on Words/ The Army may have use of the land but the LAND belongs to the COUNTRY< allocated to the Army. Its use it determined by the Government who have NOW decided that5 it will be reallocated / P{eople may think the Army is being generous in fact it is obeying orders, I have seen what the Army does here. NOTHING, so why do they need so much land ?
  17. Again yet another case of dented THAI Ego, Thai men are so fragile mentally
  18. Any Naval Officer worth the name would KNOW submarines are a pointless exercise as the Gulf of THailand is TOO shallow ,but then since when did COMMON-SENSE ever creep in TOYS FOR BOYS PURCHASES
  19. Minibus with 20 students overloaded, many injured, hope they fine the driver of the minibus as well as deal with the lorry driver. People who put any child at risk are dangerous in my book
  20. Information very quiet, was this MKonk arrested and put before a Court, if not why not !! Again we see one law for some and one law for another section of society . Kudos top the man for removing the keys to stop him fleeing
  21. Ever since HAMAS kicked out the Government in Gaza there have been problems, West Bank is NOT Gaza. Hamas funded and assisted by iran same as hezbollah . Now those who sup[port HAMS justify the 3000 rocketsd firimnto Israel and the nurdering and killing of unarmed civilians. Then you tourt p[eac. ,, Real world alert Hamas cares little for fellow palestinians as they care even less about Jews !!
  22. Simple logically A submarine is just a TOY , a Frigate is far more practical, only a Naval person would understand that though most government ministers will not have a clue !!
  23. Respect has to be earned, years ago when in the military, you respected the Rank but sometimes NOT the holder. Same here in Thailand teachers, POLICE ETC DEMAND REspect, well from my point of view they do not get it, I am always polite but never submissive or fawning . That may lead to a problem but remaining politely distant is a way of dealing with that. THIS CULTURE IS changing but oh so slow as those who used to get respect automatically no longer receive the sam e reverence and they do not like it . I find ignoring them ios the best way to deal with them.
  24. Good idea, touited a few years ago but then most books have American English, but it is not the English that is the propblem, it is the inablity of manmy Thai Teachers to think outside the book, zero experience in the real worl of speaking English foloow the book for fear of being criticised, unable to hold long conversations are but a few of the problems coupled with the fact that many THAI Teachers who teach English refuse help or assistance in English as and as one said to me I studied at University I know what is correct. despote showing him he was wrong. Fragile egos and lack of knowledge showing there, and most NEVER let students ask questions.
