  1. My CAT fibre-optic Internet connection in the Ekamai area was cut-off about 3:30 pm on 30/11/13 and was only resumed at 8:30 am on 1/12/13.

All my contact phone numbers to to CAT were down. I got through to a CAT technician's mobile phone, and he said the CAT power had been shut down as a precautionary measure.

This is all causing untold damage to the country.

In Jomtien, my CAT service cut off about the same time. Back about 1/2 hour ago.

CAT number only gave a recorded message "sorry for the inconvenience, we are working blah, blah, blah"

  2. ..so will they try to trace it.....or since they can't nab a foreigner....there is no way they will pursue Thai guilty parties.....???

What Thai guilty parties??? The Oman guy said he had been given the fake bill in a bank in Dubai without his knowledge, most likely true.

The staff at the exchange counter did their job. The tourist was screwed and lost 100$ but nobody's fault, other than the Dubai bank.

  3. facepalm.gif I remember when they were building them. I think Italian-Thai const. co. was the same company that built them. Sweet, build something and then get paid to demolish it.

The article says the construction project had been awarded to the HK company.

If I'm not wrong, Italian-Thai did the structure for the BTS. That also went on for years, but it was finally successfully completed.

  4. A good place to enjoy the Loy Krathong celebration is at Cabbages & Condoms. Dinner (better make a reservation) and then enjoy releasing your Krathong on the nice beach below. Enough people so that it has a good ambiance but not mass-crowded as the main Pattaya or Jomtien beaches will be. No huge traffic jams going in and out either.

  5. Lol. It's not that simple over there.

And I won't need to work I'm very fortunate. Don't really need to worry about funds.

Why no work there? Or you bringing lotsa $$$ to there?

I'm coming to relax and get away from working, looking for a new start, Spain and other places don't really cut it for me I like the culture

Yes, it's the temples, for sure wink.pngthumbsup.gif

I think it makes no sense for you to look into an area with a view of living there in 4-5 years time, other than to get a general feeling of how things are now.

In that time, so many things can change that you might not even recognize the area from what you see now. Similar thing may happen with the school. It may be good now, it may go down or disappear in 5 years or by then you may find something more convenient for you.

Enjoy your holidays, keep learning about the place and the different areas, but don't take things too seriously until your move is imminent.

  6. I know everyone has their favorite, and mine is Ms. Austria.. Hot.

p.s. What is the difference between the Slovek Republic and Slovenia?

    Google Slovakia. Then Google Slovenia.

IMO the problem with Miss Thailand in the international contests is that Thai judges choose them - bribes aside - based on the "Thai" concept of beauty. The surgery to noses, lips, etc. makes most Thai misses look very similar to each other and quite different to the normal Thai beauties that would wow international judges.

  7. They wanted to let me into Nong Nooch recently for the Thai price, as I too have a local licence.

I told them 'I don't need your stinking charity'......spent the difference on some meat, woke the tiger up and fed it to him!

    Anybody not understanding better duck!

clap2.gif to the OP. Maybe next time you want to be a little bit less subtle LOL Perhaps a "wink, wink" after the post would give some people a few clues.

To Jacko45k, I like duck. Tigers like that too? Do ducks eat tigers if properly cooked?

  8. I saw two teenage guys exchange places whilst driving a scooter at around 60 km/h. They were in front of my car, they got up, did a "ballet" coordinated move of legs and body positions and the guy who had been riding on the back, got to the front and vice-versa.

100% stupid. 100% impressive, I wish I had had a camera at the time.

I hope they are still alive.

Can't imagine how they even thought about doing that in the first place.

  9. I came for work. when that finishes I'll go home.

    I also came for work.

    No family here.

I think when I finish work I will still be based in Thailand.

I know a lot of people who could live anywhere in the world and live here.

I could live in a lot of places and I still think I will probably choose to live here when the time comes to retire.

100% NOT for the climate. Too hot, too wet, too flooded.

Everything else can compete with anywhere else in the world in my opinion.

  10. OP, I think that it is not a problem of your wife not understanding credit cards (and much less, Thais in general). I think the main problem is that your wife is not aware of your personal financial situation. Maybe if you explain that openly to her, the credit card part will be clear for her as well.

Hope things improve for you, but you need to confront your own reality, not just find excuses for it.

  11. Don't let our country go down a path of which this time there would be no return.

I've seen this country going on a path of no return since the time I arrived here in 94, and I think it had been going in that direction for some time already by then.

The path is a circle. Nobody is going anywhere, in politics and social structures, just repeating different versions of the same mistakes. It will be so for as long as it benefits the elite, whatever mask they are wearing.

  12. A wee word to the OP

    Coco Chanel said

Don't waste time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.

    Whereas Johnny Wilkinson recently said

For me now, I will continue to focus ever harder on my goal of being the very best I can be with Toulon Rugby Club and continue to embrace and enjoy wherever that path takes me

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

if you beat on a wall hard enough, it WILL become a door. Quite rough around the edges probably, but a door to get into the other side nonetheless.

How is this relevant? (not criticizing you, asking myself)

  13. Many expats, and what have you, let themselves go over here for whatever reason. Some of these older dudes have really long hair on their arms and legs. Wax or shave that stuff off semi-annually at least, unless you want to become a walking carpet!

Another thing is the many fat dudes that never work out and kind of shuffle along slowly usually. Their stamina sexually and otherwise must be through the floor!

How do they maintain confidence as a man walking with a petite thai lady?

I guess when it becomes unmanageable it's easier to just deny it and continue drinking rather then think about it. How many farts around here have even been to a gym over here or have some kind of exercise equipment?

I could care less what immigration thinks, not sure why you brought that up. It's about keeping yourself together, not other people.

    Troll bait of the day.

I agree that some states of undress some people show, in government offices or on the streets, are quite disgusting and defy common sense, but 100% don't feel they affect me in any way. Much less would I want my presence to affect or represent anyone else.

    Live and let live.

but the generalizations that thais may make are out of your hands

Yes and no. Yes, they have preconceived ideas, based on general things they see. Can't change that.

No, it is in my hands (yours and the next door neighbor) to make them interested enough, whenever I care, so that they

    take me as an individual.

Works quite ok for me, but I know I have low expectations :)

  14. Would it be OK if I just had pride in my intellect, my tremendous sense of humour, and the benefit of being born in the greatest nation on earth?

Has anyone got any actual evidence that people get turned away at immigration

    a) because they do not look smart

cool.png because they do not take pride in looking smart?

Perhaps the immigration officers are not as prejudiced by first appearances as is the OP

    What country is that?

San Marino, of course. One of these days we'll take over the Vatican and then the world.
