I seem to recall reading somewhere that Seatguru has not been updated since before Covid?
Anyway, last June I flew economy LHR-DXB in a 380 and then DXB-BKK in a 777, with the reverse on the return two mnths later - the 380 was far more roomy and comfortable.
Airbus A380 knocks spots off the Boeing 777. A disappointment when one of the legs usually Dubai to Bangkok is not in an A380, especially if there first leg out to Dubai was ilan A380.

The Thai culture, light the fuse wire and boom.
Appears that way. My wife and especially more so now her 10year old daughter have no filter or intermediate level between placid state and the raging, foaming psychopathic state that we read about every day in the English language Thai media.

Plus for us Brits you get pension inflation increases. Quite a bit now with 10.1% inflation, 7% next year?
How does that work, please?
I thought if you resided overseas then your UK state pension was paid until your death at the same rate which it was on the day you left the UK to live elsewhere, (devoid of any annual increase)? Hence devaluing your pension income over time.
Or have the rules changed and / or only if moving to certain countries?
(Sorry, for asking. I'm not a pensioner yet, 8 years to go).
Thanks folks.

We live in small village, 200 miles north of Bangkok. Bank is SCB. I can't sack the wife as she owns the house we live in that we built 28 years ago & besides she's been 100% until this. The Covids killed so many businesses here & money is scarce now in the village. I'll travel to the Pattaya agent if I can get this sorted.
Just look after yourself and stay safe.
Hope your wife appreciates the years you've been together and what you achieved during that time?

Is it not appaling, how medieval all this musical-chair-performance of all those dinosaurs appears? Anutin can "supply" MPs to get a political party into the driver seat. In a democracy voters are the legislative and the Anutins are the executives but here .......
Democracy in Thailand is confirming, once more again, the very own interpretation of the system without similarity to the proclaimed manifest. But it remains with the semi-divine Thai voters to live with the mess they have been voting ...... or for their unwillingness to change a completely rotten system so utterly misused all in the name of their nation, religion and monarchy.Going the same way as Cambodia. Namely controlled corrupt officials, (Cambodia by ex: Khmer Rouge, who instead of holding high office should have faced a death penalty).
Going the same way as Myanmar, controlled by an oppressive dictatorial, military junta!
Let alone Vietnam and Laos...
Pity the SE Asia block can't see it!

Myanmar generals must be rubbing their hands in glee, "takes the international spotlight off our atrocities". China rubbing their hands too, "Destabilise Thailand and move on in".
Hold on tight. Maybe the Thai army will enlist the Soviets 'on holiday' there??
Shame the generals and the corrupt can't see what a <deleted>storm they're brewing.

I just checked Skyscanner for a London-BKK flight in January. EvaAir direct flight - £697.41. Qatar (1.5hr transfer) - £704
Eva flights to Thailand have been over £1,000 pretty much all through 2023. Ditto Thai Air..
Booked in early April my Mrs and her 10year old daughter on Eva Air return flights for a one month trip 17th July > 17th August, (which is before most English schools close for summer hols), cost £2,100 for 2 pax - 1 adult / 1 child.
To have travelled for Easter it was even worse.
Maybe I'll book myself 2 weeks away from them, their constant arguing and the UK winter on the flights you mentioned. I'll have a look, book and not tell them where I'm going. ????

Air fares from Europe for anything resembling a convenient hassle free journey are now a £1,000 plus, (Thai, Eva, Emirates, Qatar, FinnAir). My Mrs is going to her family this month and Eva Air was £1,100 return when booked in April! Flights westwards to Mexico, Caribbean and USA are popping up in price brackets akin to 2018-19 at £350 to £500 return. Heading east is a non-option at present. It's cheaper to fly to many Latin American than SE Asian destinations in 2023 from London, (it's a long time since that has been the case).
Thailand is Asia's Spain /Portugal, 'so near and on the doorstep' hence the visitor numbers from India, China, Singapore etc, these days dwarfing the number of debt encumbered visitors from recession haunted western economies.
I guess not what the beer and bar girls want to hear or endure.
Be interesting if political unrest erupts, then watch tourism die a death and the baht tank...

4.8% increase down to imports.
Thailand taxes to the hilt any imports to protect it's own economy and manufacturing base, (I thought, or am I mistaken on this)? Plus it mentions revenue coming in from previously deferred taxes.
Like others say on here this money won't filter down the social classes.

5million a year = 97,000 / week on average.
Thats the kindof Chinese takeaway figure I like! ie: Not too many of them wandering around, getting in the way, pointing their phones at everything for a quick tiktok upload.
Mind you I'll make exception for the Chinese girl, (Huanxi), on the bus in the other news article on here this morning. I could watch her moon rise and fall all day long! ????

Are they wearing masks because they still think it's required in the fight against covid in 2023?
Or:
Are they wearing them to try and retain some anonymity?
Must have been a busy night back at their offices cashing up proceeds of all the brown envelopes they must have collected on their 'door knocking' escapades??

I thought Brits could only spend a total of 90 days a year in EU countries now, so how can they retire there?
It's just 90 days in any 180 days. But you can't stay for 180 days straight off. Only 90 days maximum in one stay then you need to leave the EU zone for 90days, ie: if you choose to do a continuous 90 day stay.

civil war 2024. watch this space....
Can't it be late July to mid August 2023, then my Mrs and her daughter could be:
1) Stuck in Thailand when they go to visit.
2) Could sign up and join in, then they could fight to their hearts content in their own country, instead of here with me stuck in the middle constantly playing mediator / bouncer / referee!
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Meaning, they still showed on the database as being in Thailand?
Looks like those who are using the database don't have a clue what they are meant to do with the data, or more likely, they don't know what the **** they're doing!
Would guess most the overstayers who have left the country are from Myanmar, migrant workers. Then a chunk of Soviets and Chinese.

Interesting. Because after 14 years of living in rural Thailand I've yet to meet a Thai person with anything that even resembles what I would consider a high level of patience. In fact I've long suspected that their patience levels don't develop after they are 10 years old.
Lack of patience is also one of the major reasons so many of them die on the road each year.
Running red lights and not waiting at U-turns are just a couple of examples of chronic impatience.
Absolutely. They are utterly dogmatic about time, breaking time down into 15 minute segments. Hear it from other 'farangs' married to Thais. I put it down to fact a lot of them end up being single Mums with just an elderly relative helping around childcare etc, so time and scheduling becomes of the essence! (Or in my dark humour moments I ask her if during WW2 Thais ran the Japanese POW camps)??????
If I'm out doing errands and in my Mrs' head she thinks I should be taking no longer than one hour then God help me on 61 minutes when my mobile switches to constant ringing even though I may be driving. When I answer the stock questions are, "Where you now? Why you late? Followed by the accusations I've sloped off for some Boom Boom with other lady!! (Bloody chance would be a fine thing)!
Same impatient attitude problems with her daughter, unsurprisingly. If something is not to her timeplan, (whatever it may have been as she rarely gives any advance notice), then "BOOM" off she goes like the proverbial bomb, aka: Thai psycho!
In essence urban Thais are so impatient, especially the female variety. It's why the husbands go and hang out with mates. Gives their wives something else to complain about instead of them trying to understand the psychology and effect of their actions. Ditto why globally men take up golf, fishing or crickey. A reason to be out the house for hours on end not just minutes!

so did the kid have the pocket knife with the intention to stab the other kid on that particular day and time or does he always carry the pocket knife around with him. Another example of how thai people cannot control their anger and lack any after thought of their consequences.
Very sad for the boy who lost his life at the hands of a selfish delinquent ....
"Another example of how thai people cannot control their anger and lack any after thought of their consequences..."
Steven100.
You hit the nail right on the head there, with your observation. I can back that up every day with my situation, (mother & her 10year old daughter). Does'nt matter how blunt or loud I proclaim the fact you mention, neither ever listen or want to understand or learn.
Thais should come with a health warning stamped on them, like cigarette manufacturers are forced to provide on their product packaging.

If the whole world seems to know about his arrival in Norway using a false name and passport, why wasn't he immediately arrested for that by Norwegian authorities? Even leaving aside the murder charge, flying around under a false identity or with forged documents isn't something that's taken lightly by any government. Or are the articles somehow suggesting that the Norwegian embassy in Hanoi knowingly issued the bogus passport to him?
Absolutely, and as the victim was a British citizen should'nt the UK police / authorities now have him in their custody and charged, seeing as this perpetrator is back on European soil? (Maybe he's already flown off elsewhere on another fake passport).
Or does co-operation around things like this not happen in European circles?

Emirates shenanigans
in General Topics
Yeah, I've been fortunate to enjoy A380's on both legs on return flights from Birmingham > Dubai > Bangkok and vice versa. Also, 'suffered' the Boeing 777 on the leg from Dubai to Bangkok.
Mind you this last trip took Eva Air direct flight and not overly impressed with movie selection, seat room and lack of fluids during the flights. Though the air stewardesses were a lush mix of Thai and Taiwanese. ????
