  1. Is this in any way related to your recent thread "Swift Money Transfers, Do transfers to Thailand need a reason to be sent ?" ?

    (PS: The answer is 'Yes')

actually the answer is no, the bank does not need an reason unless it is a large sum.

I say again: the answer is 'Yes'.

You obviously haven't seen a Nationwide SWIFT form, so why bother posting bad information?

  2. Yes sent through Nationwide but then it goes to HSBC who do all the transfers, that the problem Nationwide wont give me the money back until they get it from HSBC. My argument is that I did the transfer with Nationwide so they should pay me then get the money from HSBC themselves, but they wont have it. You would not belive the amount of phone calls I've made over this.

Thanks very much for the explanation. I send money every year from my Nationwide account to my Thai bank and have never had a problem, but it's always a worry for the couple of days that the money has gone from the UK account and before it turns up in the Thai account!

As for your g/f, I really think you need to consider whether she's worth all the hassle. The numbers don't add up - where does she get 20,000 baht to send to her boys after her own expenses? You need to think long and hard about it all. Good luck.

No that was for a Christmas present, That money never arrived, it was paid into the wrong account because HSBC cocked up, still waiting for the money to be credited to my account. I resent it by Western Union

I'm confused. In that thread you said you used the Nationwide SWIFT form.

  4. BGs have a distinctive English vocabulary that gives them away. They also have encyclopaedic knowledge of the hotels around the Sukhumvit bar areas.

I remember feeling quite disappointed when one of my first "true loves" pointed out the short time hotels as we travelled along the back roads from Sukh soi 3 to Sukh soi 13. :o

  5. Time for a competition methinks... let's get some piccies posted! :o

These are the Before...can we post the After pictures aswell?

I wasn't thinking of that - just the funny pics of too many people on a bike or, my favourite, silly sam lors, e.g the "double-decker":

    and the "poodle perambulator":

  6. It's okay for this forum to allow racist comments and pictures about black people but nothing can be said insulting about Thais and their culture.

There aren't any racist comments or pictures here, not intentionally anyway, and that's the whole point of the topic.

What makes Thais better than every other race ??? They think they are, but why are some of you guys so brainwashed???

Why are you trying to get this topic to change direction? Nobody is talking about insulting Thais and nobody wants to. A quick look at your previous 20 posts reveals quite a lot about you. :o

  7. I am sure this must of comed up before, but i am fairly new to this. So i just have to ask what you guys think of this "Black Man" toliet brush , mops, etc etc????? What is that about? i am not black but still offended by this, ay more racist comments about thais, pls feel free to post>

    Thanks

(It actually has a picture of a black "slave" looking man holding a duster etc) WOW :D

Yes, it has come up before. And if you're sensitive to that, then I think Thailand is not the place for you.

Don't you think he looks a bit like Obama?

    gallery_35489_957_38383.jpggallery_35489_957_1877.jpg

Could be a new Obama catch-phrase "I'm going to clean up US politics!" :o

  8. My personal record for catching on camera - Five-up:

    [siem Reap, Cambodia, 2006]

When I snap one with seven-up I'm going to sell it to PepsiCo for their next advertising campaign.

Not close to some of the things I've seen though... :o

  9. Do Thai have a donor sign off on thier drivers license ? They could be the 'Organ hub ' of SE Asia , make a few bucks for the family , without being sarky !! :o

You may have something here! I always carried a donor card around with me in the UK. Not sure if it would work here though - mangled bodies, thrown in the back of a pick-up, the heat (eew!), etc. They'd have to be pretty quick to save anything useful in this climate. :D

  10. This goes totally against the international trend to use computers and links to centralise record-keeping for the sake of standardisation,

and then to have multiple access points for the convenience of users.

So, Thailand goes in the opposite direction to the rest of the world.

Just because they want you to go to your local office for the 90 day report, this does not mean that they are not using computers to centralise record-keeping.

It's possible that they just want to:

    1. even out the work load amongst all the offices by having only their own residents reporting to them, and

    2. let each office use its knowledge of its area to check that the foreigner's reported address is correct.

  11. The government would be better off doing something about men walking around groping women without their consent, also called indecent assault in most countries but perfectly acceptable in Thailand during Songkran.

Not only during Songkran, unfortunately for the young country girls. :o
