  1. This is terrifically detailed and helpful. THANK YOU.
  2. The only sensible solution is for all good Thais to immediately impose additional random DF sales taxes on all DF transactions within the Kingdom.
  3. Hi Issan residents, Living in Chiang Mai & have a car, want to drive to come check out Issan in February. Can any locals please suggest... Picturesque highways? Off-the-beaten-track places? Non-touristy place to see beautiful lam-vong circular dance? Anything else I should know? Khupun nakaa!
  4. Dude, this is Thailand. No criticism is welcome. No improvement is ever going to happen. Thais don't want to hear it from Thais or farang, and Stuck Here farang don't want to hear about it, either. No expat is ever going to admit they made a huge mistake in ever having anything to do with this place. The fault will always be said to be with you for failing to 'adapt' (lower your standards). Thailand. If you don't like it... FIND A WAY TO LEAVE!
  5. Sewerage smells, litter everywhere, enormous unfinished building eyesore right on the river (W T F ???) in a supposedly nice area, pedestrian unfriendly, young men abusing street animals, hundreds of Burmese migrants queuing in the heat to renew their their work visas. Central Bangkok... Yep definitely a Worldwide Top 5 destination ????.
  6. Is it true that male tourists have been drugged and raped by ladyboys? In the mid-2010s, I heard that happened to an attractive young Englishman during his holiday to Thailand. He was quite traumatised and ashamed. I don't remember any more details. We always hear about druggings, beatings and robberies by LBs and LB gangs, but not so much the rapes. I can understand if it were a p4p situation and the LB became aroused, things could get out of hand. I get it, it's partly the young man's fault for being naive / playing with fire. Just amazes me that no one seems to talk about that risk in general. Anyone else heard similar stories?
  7. Totally agree. I've given away literally carfulls (not just one carful) of books in my life. Now parting with most precious because like you said I have the free e-books for them all. Is there a place in CM I can sell 10 for 100 baht... 50 baht... 20 baht? I don't like the idea of them just being thrown away by someone who got them totally free. A bargain is treasured because it reflects well on the buyer, something free is sometimes not valued.
  8. Various outfits around CM old city will exchange or offer a credit, but only to their buying customers. I don't want to swap; am decluttering. (Also a conscientious objector to Facebook/Meta so wouldn't sell to expats there) Any suggestions of places that might buy? Thx
  9. Best website for maximum free info about Thai employer companies. (Rego date, industry activities, owners / officers, currently registered). Also, is there any free way to confirm whether a company is formed under the Amity Treaty? (US majority owners) Thanks
  10. Any recommendations of high quality places? Cheers
  11. First off, let me clarify. I'm NOT looking a gay sauna/bathhouse. Each to his own, just not my thing. With that out of the way, please, are there any saunas in Lampang City? Eg, at Gyms? Luxury condos? Hotels? thanks all
  12. Has anyone seen any place that offers this in Chiang Mai? Thanks
  13. You're right, it doesn't happen every time. But it does happen.
  14. Yes. At the tyre shop they will see me, farang lady no poot Thai, price could multiply instantly...
  15. Thanks people. Yes, replacing all 4 tyres. Does it matter what kind of car and tyres, surely the labour component is pretty much identical for replacement, rotation and realignment. And that's all I'm asking about here. Just the fees for the labour.
  16. Hi team What kind of price (outside central BKK) should I expect to pay for replacement of 1 tyre, plus rotation & realignment of all 4 ? I appreciate the parts cost is a separate issue. Thanks!
  17. Good set of replies here... Thanks everyone.
  18. 1) Where does one go for shoe repair in Thailand? Back home you'd go to a locksmith at a mall. 2) Does anyone know a good shoe repair guy in CM? Need some sandals re-soled. Thailand has worn out my sole, ha ha haaaar. Thanks team
  19. I know a very decent young man in Chiang Rai who does pretty watercolours. He is using the art money to put himself through a course in traditional Chinese medicine. PM me if you want his name & number.
  20. Yes, a school tried it on with me, too. After 2 interviews, I was offered an ESL teaching job yesterday. They told me to come in today to sign the contract. When I arrived, they said it is the school's practice to NEVER give teachers a copy of their employment contract. I immediately politely declined to sign, and politely took my leave, and sent a polite email thanking the interviewers for their time. You are not the only one!
  21. I always think of having that first kid as being like committing to a permanent whole-face tattoo. But you can't choose the design of the tattoo. Also, becoming a parent entangles you more deeply with the modern world and government policy, with your family of origin, and with the other parent's family. It means more time being involved with the schooling system, healthcare system, and annoying, demanding extended family. Get a new pet animal instead ???? Or learn how to cultivate a beautiful garden. Meditate more. Join a men's shed or do volunteer work. If you have life wisdom to share with young people, write a book or create a YouTube channel. There are so many ways to deepen your life and have rewarding new experiences... without signing up for the Mystery Full-Face Tattoo.
