  1. If I was the mayor (but my perspective is different..) I would be embarassed that it takes Bkk police to get involved. It would be a reflection on my reputatioin that I could not solve the problem.

Do the Thai locals really CARE whether the scam is stopped or not? I think most definitely not. Some business interests MIGHT care about bad international publicity that might impact tourism revenues though.

I think some Thai people probably do care, I'm thinking of those with bars and shops where these people should be spending their holiday money.

Also those thinking long term will realise that this bad publicity could deter tourist coming to Thailand with money to spend.

I doubt that there are very many Thais thinking long term about tourists. They assume that we will keep coming, because we always have.

Are there anyThais thinking 'long term'?

  2. My friend had a car serviced at my regular place .She said they did not change the engine oil although she was charged for an oil change.

Possibly the staff used old oil.

Another to watch is what happened to a girl I know,She bought a new Honda wave .The first service she had somebody changed many of her new parts for junk.

She did not tell me until it was to late to attempt any police action.

Have your service done where you buy from new,Try to make sure you stay throughout service.

    I do.

  3. Where on Theprasit is PK Air? Anyone has a phone nr?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Thaivisa Connect App

From Suk ..3/4 way down on right.

One of the last of the shops past the 7/11 by soi 17.

If you get to the open ground with a couple of large unfinished houses you have passed PK.

The car A/C shop next to PK is also very good for service.

  4. LG Service Centre is on Sukhumvit about 100 yards south of Pattaya Klang on the west side. For what it's worth I had a problem with my aircon about three months ago and they sent out their workmen who diagnosed that I needed a new control box. They said they'd call me when they had one in stock. I heard nothing for weeks and went to another aircon repair place on Thepprasit (PK Aircon), who diagnosed a faulty sensor and said it was a common fault. Within 40 minutes they had a man come and replace the sensor (450 baht). Last week I got a phone call from LG technician "Can I come today and replace control box?". Guess what I said, and guess if I'd employ them again.

Pittaya...PK AIR [speaks good english] is an excellent man.

The first time I called him to check my A/C he came to my house checked the A/C and said nothing needs to be done.

    He wanted no money.

I insisted he take 200 baht for his wasted time.

  5. I live in Pattaya and have a toyota soluna.

I have always used Castrol oil but can no longer find any on sale here.

I see many other brands in Big C etc but with different SAE numbers ie.10/40... 20.40.

Which should I use .I only use benzine.

Thanks all,in advance, for any response

  6. I am happy to see this.It is far better than going to a place where I am not welcome but barely tolerated because of P.C rules and laws.

John Kennedy had to resign from a favourite club when running for president because there were no black members....WHY?

Many respectable thai families do not want to take their children to places where aged foreigners with the custom of dressing in sleeveless string vests, skimpy shorts and are smooching with young issan females are in attendance.

  7. that's my shift over, it's back to farangland.

now this is not a defence of the scammers but when pulling a scam it helps if the marks are themselves a bit greedy. a lot of bad rentals are pulled late in the day when the ski guys suddenly drop their rental prices to 300 bht instead of 5, 6, or 700 they were quoting earlier.

sniffing a bargain the punters dive in and get shafted when they get back to the beach.

it is the only explanation i can come up with to account for the relatively high number of late rentals.

    Safe journey strider.

  8. I imagine there are many ,like me, who retired early [age 48] and decided to find a new home after the mess the governments had made of what was once the United Kingdom.

What with .P.C and giving top local government positions to people based on colour rather than ability.

Petty laws and an almost absence of police on the beat plus the high cost of living made me decide to settle here in Thailand.

As I had earned my pension It did not occur to me that I could not take my pension to wherever I decided to live.I knew I would be giving up health benerfts and winter allowance and accepted that.

I am not prepared to accept that the pension I paid dearly for, app 25 % of salary for 44 years, should be decreed a 'government benefit' which they can even decide to refuse me any payment on.

Did you really start work at age 4 and then pay Insurance for 44 years? You have my respect.

Apologies.I paid 25% of my salary throughout my working career.I paid the remaining years as voluntary payments.

I started work at age 15....33 years at 25% N.I.S

  9. In other words, in the UK you get highly sophisticated 1st world outages requiring logistical planning, specialised equipment including deployment of helicopters to repair the damage, whereas here we have primitive, uncivilized 3rd world outages that can be fixed at the drop of a hat by a couple of minimum wage labourers with a rusty pickup truck and a bamboo ladder.biggrin.png

Joking apart, good post and point well made.

But I know where I'd rather have my power outages.tongue.png

And ,of course, you cannot [elf 'n safety] put up a ladder while a storm is raging.

  10. Near the elephant village [soi Nernplubwan] we had no power from 10.30 till around 3.30-4 am.

I managed to doze for a bit but the storm was the worst I'd known in 17 years here.

Strangely ,talking to my Thai neighbour [female], she said she knew nothing about it and slept soundly until 8 am

    No damabe thankfully.

  11. I've been getting free power on one of my meters for years. It will be interesting to see if I am finally hit with this new change. I have found it kind of ironic, like being a welfare case for Thailand. Makes up a little bit for any double charging, I reckon.

how many meters have you got?

Possibly the meter you are not being charged for belongs to someone else.

  12. Wouldn't it be reasonably easy to test the gold? Especially with gold bars, the weight and the size (volume) should give you the gold content?

I don't know much about buying gold, but if you put a gold bar in a carefully calculated amount of water, the displacement should give you an idea of the density of the material and thus it's purity.

The weight of the displaced volume of water will tell you its weight IF it floats, but only the volume of an irregular shaped object if it sinks. The object would then have to be weighed very accurarely and the density (ratio of weight to volume) calculated. But shouldn't be too hard to pick as gold's density is 19.3 and silver 10.5 g/cc.

Jewellers pick alloyed gold by heating to red hot. The silver will oxidize and appear as black spots.

This was discovered by Archimedes when he was given the task of finding out if gold jewellery made by goldsmiths for a Greek King was fake.

Sitting in his bath he exclaimed 'Eureka' .

  13. I do not know if they have been impounded but at Bic C Sukhumwit there are often many bikes placed in the parking bays that nobody uses. Also cars.

Hope this is of some help.Yesterday near the front entrance was a group of moyorcycles all covered.

  14. 16 years ago [had never seen 'songkran'] I drove to Kao San rd in Bangkok.

traffic was terrible and crowds were throwing water and powder at everyone .No ice chunks.

One girl approached my car ,saw a 'farang' and gently fired her small water pistol on my side window.

I had a few buckets of water and some jets fired at my car but nothing to annoy me and mostly if they saw I was not Thai they did not bother with throwing water..

    Everyone was enjoying it .

Now it is warfare.no holds barred .Take no prisoners.
