  1. I'm changing my plans now to go to the UK for a few months after Holland and making sure I'm completely clean then going to Thailand.

Why? If you want to do drugs and party all night go to Cambodia.

You can smoke weed all day long and the beach bars and clubs are open til the sun comes up.

Probably a reason why Cambodia will attract more tourists in the future,

that those tourist won't be going to Thailand is for most people no great loss.

    :)

  2. I want to change my email address and via the control panel entered the new email as well as my password, but the security code section has nothing in it and when I hit the return it says the security code does not match the one displayed, please try again. So what's happening?

  3. Wed Nov 4, 10:04 AM

PHNOM PENH (AFP) - Cambodia has appointed former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as economic adviser to premier Hun Sen and his administration, a Cambodian government statement said on Wednesday.

The statement, read out on state television, said Thaksin would serve "as personal adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and the adviser to the Cambodian government in charge of economy".

The appointment, by royal decree, came almost two weeks after Hun Sen riled Thailand by offering safe haven to Thaksin, who was ousted in a coup in 2006 and is living abroad to avoid corruption charges.

  4. Thais have a choice:

    1. A prime minister that pockets money for himself and does something for the country.

    2. A prime minister that pockets money for himself and does nothing for the country.

Hint: (Abhisit is #2 on the ballot).

You must be reading the wrong paper rainman, as much as some would like to make this all about personalities,

the underlying disagreement is the right to vote and the integrity of the democratic process.

  5. Red-shirts battle blue-shirts in Pattaya

    The outnumbered blue-shirted local people.

So far, the security authorities had not step in to stop the clash yet.

    -- The Nation 2009-04-11

Why are local people being used as security and why aren't the real security forces stepping in?

Sounds like an engineered situation and some rather bias reporting.

  6. He knew he was on his way out, he had a cancer op a few years ago and it was a wake up call for him, one of the most generous and happy go lucky fellas I've ever met, as well as one of the biggest drinkers.

He got me out of many scrapes on TV and into quite a few more while out on the beer in Pattaya, both of which I'm grateful for.

    It's very sad news indeed.

RIP Martin, hope they got plenty of green bottles, wherever it is they send ya. :o

  7. They were goping for 29,000 a couple of years ago when they first came out, surely they have to be much less than that now.

I'll be buying at Tuckom, Pattaya, want Thai keys and would also consider a good condition 2nd hand one.

The N95 seems to have stood the test of time, being reliable and robust, but perhaps you know a better alternative.

    Any info appreciated?

    Thanks :o

  8. Tell him to take any bank statements, utility bills, photos of his house, photos of where he works, credit card statements, mortgage statements or rent book, council tax bills, he'll have to write a letter to the UK embassy telling them where & when he met his G/Friend, proof that they have spent time together and communicated (photos, letters, e-mails, text messages), he will have to give her a letter inviting his G/Friend to come to the UK for a vist and he'll have to write a letter to the UK embassy asking them to grant his G/Friend a visa.

Good luck to him, he'll need it.

Yes I think luck is the key ingredient.

Are you saying that he should make the application in Thailand while he is there,

rather than making the application in the UK?

Your friend will have to provide info on where she is going to stay while in the UK, the purpose of the visit, how much money will be available for her to live on, how long she intends to be in the UK, details of relationship to back up the reason for visiting etc.

Your friends girlfriend will also have to provide proof of some fairly decent reason to return to Thailand. This could be a decent job, university course, land ownership, other major assets, close family ties etc. The people assessing the visa application will start off with the assumption that this person may just want to gain access to the UK cheaply via a visit visa with the purpose of overstaying. One of the burdens of proof is to convince them that his girlfriend will comply with the conditions of the visa and return to Thailand before it expires.

It certainly is minefield, where one false move spells disaster.

As you and Moss have said, it is the onus of the applicant to prove the visitor has a good reason to return to Thailand.

A very hard thing to prove no matter how good the visitors credentials.

As has been stated, RtR is a get out clause the Embassy uses for ease of refusal, so this needs attention, if nothing else Load the family connections.

This friend Robbo is not known to me is he? After your extended trip, is there something you want to tell me :D

Good Luck and pick up the phone, you can spin me a yarn or two.

    Moss

You haven't met this friend Moss although you have heard of him,

perhaps if I bring him over one night you could help explain the visa process, or at least get him roaring drunk. :D

I think the latter will be easier. :o

  9. Hi, my friend wants to invite his Thai girlfriend over to the Uk as a visitor.

He's a working guy, with mortgage, credit etc...

What paperwork and information is needed and where would he find it?

Is it an process that he can do himself or should he use a third party service to make it easier?

he's going to Thailand for Songkran, is there any paperwork or documentation he should take over with him?

    Thanks in advance. :o

  10. It seems the TAT, AOT and several other organisations are ready to blame PAD for the drop in tourist arrivals.

I am sure they have heard there is a recession happening in the rest of the world and people are curtailing their holiday plans until the economy starts to recover. Nothing surprising in that surely?

Certainly the closure of the airports by PAD sent a bad signal to many people, but given time and a recovery in the economies of the major countries, the tourists will surely return.

Thailand is still a friendly country albeit with a few major problems at the moment and with good guidance will recover from this in due course.

The strong baht is not helping either. Time for some adjustment?

The bubble has already burst... for most people. :o

  11. The problem is that many of the families that you mention have already booked, a long time ago in most cases. High season will be as busy, as and when those that have already booked can arrive. Butt hat's just this year. I doubt if there's going to be so many booking for their Summer holidays in the Land of Smiles (irony there).

Absolutely, Central America looks looks a positive oasis of civility in comparison.

  12. as everyone was thinking as soon as they goverment is over thrown, it will all be ok...

Problem is that still kinda same government is in power.

Maybe some different faces as minister but the same people in power in the background.

No, I think most people now realise what the problem is. :o

  13. In less than 24 hours, we will know the PAD's true intentions. If the courts deliver a verdict tomorrow to disband the PPP effective immediately, the PAD should clear out of the airports the same day. We'll see if they keep their word or if they find a new reason to stay.

Yes, although I don't agree with the method, I hope for everyones sake that tomorrow will see some movement in this farcical deadlock.

Let those travellers and business people get back to their normal lives.

For Thailand I fear the schism now brought out in the open will have deep repercussions for years to come.

reason for edit; fat fingers/small keys

  14. Say whatever you like about Thaksin, but he tried to make Thailand a modern country, .....

he did, and he did do many good things for Thailand and the sad thing is that he of all people had the chance to really lead and carry Thailand into its next era. To be the Lee Kwan Yew of the 21st Century. Unfortunately his shortsight destroyed him , where instead of focusing on Thailand, he only focused on himself. with great power comes greater responsibility. for this reason he is a failure and disgrace - the one who could have made changes, but was blinded by petty greed.

Final battle in Bangkok a Pyrrhic victory

    (snip)

The alliance has been operating an armed and dangerous security force with impunity, yet its leaders have over the last few months moved around freely, apparently without fear that any of Thailand’s quarter-of-a-million police officers will make an arrest. They have refused investigators access to crime scenes in premises that they have occupied. They have illegally detained other citizens, and have declined to negotiate for the return of public utilities and facilities. Yet they have been permitted to carry on.

    (snip)

The irony is that while the alliance has emerged as the greatest threat to Thailand’s institutional order in modern times, it is a threat that is coming not from without but from within that order. While other countries are concerned with the danger of terrorist attack or political violence orchestrated against the state from outside, it is the super-conservative elements at the heart of the state that are responsible for the havoc being wreaked in Bangkok today.

Bravo. Excellent article. So sad but true.

Yes an excellent article, thanks for posting.

The two paragraphs I've highlighted, get right to the heart of the matter.

This is terrorism from within the establishment.
