The electrocution was due to the fact that the circuit breaker on the power pedestal was not wired into the line and the wiring would have had to have been cross connected according to an electrical engineer,
When a qualified electrician arrived to make an inspection of the pedestal four hours later, the marina staff had already installed a new circuit breaker and put a padlock on the pedestal.
The police report stated that "the family did not blame the marina in any way as they realised that this was an accident ".
The family did not report the matter and were never interviewed by the police.
The marina staff were told not to talk about the incident and to this date no one from the marina ever talked to the family,
As the title says; How To Get Away With Murder.
Very sad and very criminal, but I'm sure liability will never be established.

Agreed.

I read the thread and observe it to be all speculation. BG this, LB that. I'd prefer more substantive info than the product of men juiced up on tabloid news. 18 year old boys don't have to pay for anything. Party yes, but until then, I'm going to stick to my belief that it was a tired over enthused kid that drank too much. Sorry, but I have done similar things as have my friends at that age, so maybe I'm projecting. I hope his friend gets some support as its a heavy memory to carry.
It's you who is speculating, even though you claim not too. Maybe 'projecting' is something else.
You seem to be missing the point of my own and others concern...
The lack of, information, investigation, news, the lack of interest.
It's very sad.

That's just sooooooo freakin' bad!

It sounds to me that it's not the AV programmes that are so dumb, but the virus that is so smart.

I realize there are several topics on notebooks but this one is somewhat different in that tight criteria and multiple purchases are involved. Our latest research center is near completion and the 2nd floor will be for the new Thailand Center of Excellence in Physics, a National consortium. The director wants all notebooks for the staff due to the amount of heavy traveling involved. As such, it has to perform primarily as a desktop computer and a budget limit of 30k per seat for between 8-10 seats.
Since it is a desktop replacement, screen size is of importance but with the above budget it limits me to 15-15.4 inch units. The alternative is 14" (around 22-23K) plus a 19" LCD monitor but I feel that may be awkward in that the notebook screen would stick up in the way of the external monitor. I would prefer HP Compaq or Lenovo but they are above the budget. The closest I can find is the Acer Aspire 5530G. I'm hesitant to consider Acer due to mixed reports on this forum regarding reliability. Since this is a major purchase I don't want to make a mistake with this.
If I went the way of an external LCD monitor then the two 14" notebooks I have my eye on are these: HP Compaq Presario and Lenovo G430
They will be used primarily for administrative, secretarial and accounting work. Since I haven't dealt with notebook purchases (primarily I make recommendations and purchases of desktop systems for the lab) any advise, recommendations would be appreciated.
I have the Advent/MSI and I'm very happy with it, as I've said before, and as many reviews will agree.
The ability to upgrade to 2gb ram is a plus although that would void the warranty, however it seems to be able to run XP, video streaming and Voip perfectly well with 1gb.
One thing you will need to consider is will the programmes you use run on a screen res of 1024x600, some just won't run at all and others will have the bottom clipped off them so if there is important info at the bottom you won't be able to view it, I think this is rather an oversight as making the screen just slightly larger to run 1024x740(?) would be ideal.
There is a thread on the link supplied by PhillConners http://wiki.msiwind.net/index.php/Main_Page (cheers Phil) on how to scale the display to 1024x768 although again that might void the warranty as it is a hack.
There does seem to be a lot of scope for modification to the Advent/MSI, which offsets the voided warranty with easy replacement of parts.

TAT governor Ms Phornsiri Manoharn insists that Thailand aims for an increase in arrivals from the UK next year, from the current 740,000 to 750,000 arrivals.
Wow, an extra 10,000 people, that should keep a few big hotels going for.. er about a week.

Got to agree in a way that it is the lower end/long term that patters caters for best, my work contract is up at Xmas and there's nothing on the horizon for the first half of 2009, so better than sitting at home with <deleted> weather I'll be living well in patters and making calls for new contracts in the spring.
Plenty of contracters and offshore workers use patters for r&r and I think many will just stay a little longer this time.

I have an Advent 4211/MSI Wind running XP 80GB drive 2GB memory (!gb fitted by me). Excellent little machine.
Yep me too, brilliant machine. The only drawback I've found is that the screen size 1024x600 won't allow me to run my favorite video editing programme and it does clip the bottom off another program I use, but I still have the widescreen laptop at home run those programmes anyway, otherwise it's ideal and very robust.

I thought 'a man known only as “Jack” ' had been taken off the streets ages ago.

I have a good guy who picks up at any hour of the day or night 1200 baht including tolls. Hasn't failed me yet.
Why pay 1200 when there are good guys doing it for less?
I've tried the 1k baht guys and they have pulled no-shows........twice.
No thanks. Mine is always there to date with a newer, clean car and is a very safe driver.
I want to get there in good time but safely. Staying alive is more important than a couple hundred baht to me.
Can you PM me his details? Thanks.

It seems the mysterious death of a young man is not news.
I guess if it was a young woman... or an expat married to Thai..

Yes please do, and see if they leave the sauna running or if you need to give them time to get it warmed up.
Much appreciated.

Are you doing it for the visa or for the language?
I went for an induction lesson with Walen and didn't like the style of it at all.
(not being able to ask for the simplest explaination in English is very frustrating and demands perserverance)
There are other ways to get a year non imm visa and there are other language schools that may be more suitable.

It's an old thread, but as it's been bumped...
Can you get whey at a good price now?

You can't rush fitness. It's a slow process which requires intelligent training coupled with a good diet and plenty of rest. Your proposed workout schedule looks more like an attempt to bash the body into fitness...it just won't work.
Recovery is the key to improvement.
90 minutes in the gym every second day and an hour of low to medium intensity cardio on the other days is more enough for me. The stronger I get, the more rest my body needs.
Very good advice.
How about that plunge pool at Soi 16? Do they keep the water clean in it?
I love having a sauna now and then when in Pattaya, get that city grime off me and really refresh the skin, but there's nothing worse than having to jump in a plunge pool that's full of all the crap your trying to get rid of, especially when it's someone elses!! :yeuch:

Why the hel_l didn't she just smash one of the windows?
Easier said than done.

This is a very strange case and I'm surprised no-one has really picked up on it yet.
This young lad has died under very mysterious circumstances and the police are trying to say it's suicide.
There are conflicting reports about how long the individual had been in Patong, some saying a couple of days and some saying a couple of hours.
Although the police claim he fell/jumped form the shophouse complex, they cannot determine from which floor or apartment he came.
The young man was found with serious head injuries, in the street dressed only in his underwear.
Eyewitnesses claim to have seen the youth running in the area previously, although they claim he wasn't being chased and I presume he was fully clothed.
The young man was apparantly a happy individual that was looking forward to his vacation.
Why would he commit suicide?
Who was he with and where had he been in the hours leading to his discovery?
Where are his clothes and his possesions?
What are the police doing to investigate this death further?
