  1. Basically I want to use internet banking and paypal whilst abroad, which will mean using public access PC's or a third party internet connection.

How can I protect my password against getting hijacked and my bank account cleared out?

Ok I have a basic idea, but it is just that, basic.

If I have a document on my computer or on a portable drive that contains my password, it could be any word in any innocuous article, and I copy & paste that into the password window, will that stop my password being detected by whatever spyware that may be lurking?

I have an Advent/MSI wind that I will be using, great machine and hopefully not too conspicuous when I'm out in the boonies,

however if that should get 'lost' I wouldn't want any traces of my password or key pattern left on it.

As I say that's pretty basic, there must be a more sophisticated way of doing things, perhaps a programme held on a portable flash drive that can help conceal my password and erase any trace of it after.

    Any advice greatfully appreciated.

  2. Found this on page 4.. anybody want to claim it?

Have you guys given up on the Friday night piss? Or is it strictly invitation only now?

I'll be there over Xmas, so get ya drinking boots on boys and I'll get 'em in. :o

  3. And to junki3korean, maybe you don't know this, but it has been proven that one joint contains 20 times more poisonous chemicals than a whole packet of cigarettes. You might want to do some research before making ridiculous claims.

    Just my 2 cents

    onzestan

ONE joint (tobacco and marijuana) contains 20 TIMES more poisonous chemicals than A WHOLE PACKET (20) of cigarettes.

Just your 2 cents huh? How about a link or two to the source of your 2 cents worth.

  4. I bought mine at PC World in the UK for £279.00. It didn't come with a slip-case though so I'll have to look around for one.

It also didn't come with any anti virus software, so I've downloaded Avast, which seems to be getting better all the time,

I'll see how I get on with that, but if not I'll buy Kaspersky and add it via an external disc drive.

Thanks for the links ThaiLife, I'll add this page to favorites for reference.

Damole, a 6 cell battery would definately be a bonus and I'll be looking out for one as soon as they become available,

hopefully the price from Advent won't be too high, but if it is I'll wait for a patent part,

I'm sure it won't take long for the after-market manufacturers to catch up with the versatility of this machine.

As for a 160gb hd, wow yes please!! Hopefully this is another item that can easily be replaced,

I have 80gb but but in reality that's less than 70gb useable.

However it is ideal for travelling, the WiFi works great so the initial outlay will save me lots of time and effort using net-cafe's,

and of course I will be able to do a lot of the text and photo editing off-line before uploading to the net, as well as using for photo storage of course.

The inbuilt web cam and mic means cheap easy communications, and there's enough room for some of my favorite music.

I'm quite happy with Windows XP, no frills and no fuss, I've downloaded Intenet Explorer 7 for it already to spruce it up.

All in all it would seem a great purchase.

  5. Hard to prove? Impossible to prove if you ask me.

Just because he blamed a game for his actions does not prove a definite correlation between this game and committing actual violence in the real world.

Please explain to me what you would consider a corrolation between the youth playing the game and then going out and commiting a murder in a similar style that could be anymore compelling than the case in point.

Perhaps if when he left the games arcade to commit this murder he took the games console with him, with the game inside of course, and used it to bash the taxi drivers head in.

Or perhaps if he changed his name to Nico Belic and started speaking with a Russian accent before stabbing the driver, stuffing his body in the backseat and trying to steal his taxi.

Take out the element of the game in this case and this is still a very unusual and horrific murder, more so that it was commited by a teenager.

A very small percentage of people in society are capable of the act of murder and most of those that do so are under extreme mental pressure.

What do you think could drive this youth to consider that his actions were justified if not a distorted sense of reality?

Personally I love the game, but I do think that it's overblown portrait of human immorality is capable of affecting the judgemant of young people in their formative years.

  6. Way to avoid a lawsuit.

I agree and also the publishers will want to be seen taking a responsible course of action to an event that will surely fuel the debate about violence in videogames.

Rockstar and other games developers will be taking this news very seriously as, for one of the very first times, there is a definate corrolation between the violence depicted in the game and an actual crime being perpetrated.

I have the game myself and I agree with it's 18+ (adult) rating, in a world full of very negative role models the lead character in this game is as bad as they get

and for lads of all ages that's a great attraction.

I know many boys in their early teens are playing it and there is a great interest in it from even younger kids because of it's 'illegallity' to them.

Total immersion in this type of world at a young age without the stabilising factors of positive role models will without a doubt in my mind blur the lines between reality and fiction.

  7. Thai distributors have pulled GTA IV after a 19-year-old killed a taxi driver while recreating a scene from the game

One of the largest video game distributors in Asia has halted sales of the Grand Theft Auto IV in Thailand after a teenager confessed to robbing and murdering a taxi driver while trying to recreate a scene from the game.

New Era Interactive said it had sent a note to all of its Thai stores telling them to pull the game off the shelves after a 19-year old high-school student confessed to killing a taxi driver with a knife he bought at a local branch of Tesco.

Police in Bangkok said that the youth "had wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game."

"We are urging all video game arcades to pull the game from service," said a spokesman for New Era Interactive, which has offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Polwat Chino, described by his parents as polite and diligent, was arrested late on Saturday after he was found trying to steer a cab backwards out of a Bangkok street with the severely wounded driver in the back seat, according to local newspaper reports.

He had paid to play the game at a local shop in Bangkok, and said he had needed more cash to continue playing it and that the taxi driver looked like an easy target.

Neighbours in the Bang Phlad district in central Bangkok called police after Mr Chino was heard pressing the car's horn while reversing down a dead end street. He had been trying to drive away - apparently in an attempt to recreate a scene from the game in which a criminal steals a car to evade police - but was unable to control a real car, police said.

The victim, a 54-year-old man from the poor northern province of Maha Sarakham, had been stabbed ten times.

A police spokesman said Mr Chino, an obsessive player of Grand Theft Auto, showed no sign of mental problems during questioning and had confessed to committing the crime because of the game.

In a statement, Mr Chino told police: "I needed money to play the game every day. My parents give me only 100 baht a day, which is not enough. I am also fed up with them fighting. They are civil servants and do not make good money."

"My mother gave me 500 baht, so in the evening I went to the Tesco Lotus superstore and bought two knives." Police have charged Mr Chino with robbery, causing death and possessing offensive weapons. If gound guilty, he faces death by lethal injection.

A senior official at Thailand's Culture Ministry, which has been pursuing tougher regulation of violent games such as Grand Theft Auto, said the murder was a wake-up call for authorities, and urged parents to take note of what their children were playing.

"This time-bomb has already exploded and the situation could get worse," the official was quoted as saying. "Today it is a cab driver but tomorrow it could be a video game shop owner." Thai authorities have been pushing for a rating system on video games, as well as restrictions on how long youths can spend playing games in video arcades.

Grand Theft Auto, which is published by the Scottish company Rockstar and has raised more than $1 billion (£500 million) this year, has been criticised for depicting violent scenes such as beatings, car-jackings, and drive-by shootings.

A spokesman for Rockstar could not immediately be reached for comment.

  8. Yes a sad situation for you both.

Isn't there a Thai person she could confide in?

There is obviously a lot of pent up frustration in her, I would suppose the UK is quite a culture shock and not quite the bed of roses she imagined.

You're both very young and it would be easy to blame each other and throw your marriage away, you must have cared for her to marry her.

Try and get a third party involved to help get to the route of the problem before you do anything too rash, an older person perhaps and if it's a Thai even better.

In my experience Thai women don't like to pour out their greivences in a direct manner until it all comes to a head, but instead they prefer to use an older/wiser person to mediate.

If you still feel the situation is irrevocable at least you can feel that you tried your best, but you never know perhaps this is just a very high hurdle that you both need to get over and that is what is causing the anguish to you both and getting to the root of the problem may be beneficial to you both and to your marriage.

    Good luck to you both.
