Thanks guys. Yes, I think aarn maybe right. Any suggestions?
-
My Windows 7's Data D file is full and it keeps asking me to clear it. I have removed all that I think I can, but it seems not to make a jot of difference. Can someone help with suggestions. The biggest users of space a VHD files, but I don't know what they are or whether I can delete them.

They will not accept updated values for high value items of personal effects that you take out of your home, once it reaches a level (unspecified) that they deem is too high, even if it is a true replacement value. For service levels I was referring to the broker. Explanation of coverage was/is a problem.
-
Yes, I use them too, but this new stricture on "agreed value" rather than replacement value for watches is bothersome. They term some items "high value" and will only insure up to the value they agree; "agreed value" is the value they agree.
I am seriously beginning to wonder whether insurance is a waste of time. I have taken out home insurance for more than 30 years and rarely made any claim, and certainly nothing substantial. When you live in a secure condo, such as I do, it seems much less of a risk to do without. Plus the service side is painfully inadequate.
What's your experience like?

I use these guys:
Just had a claim and they were great. Rep showed up immediately, was very professional and took care of everything.
I went through them as well but originally asked to see a couple of different policies to compare. AA were able (eventually) to send me the policy details electronically so I could try and see what i was actually getting. Ended up with one from a New Zealand co. but read the policies from AXA and a Thai company as well.
IAG?

Can anyone recommend a good home and contents insurance company in Thailand.
I was trying to renew my existing policy and asked for increased insurance values, (based on market prices) for two specified items, but they advise me that for "high value" items they will not insure for the full replacement value.

Gosh, this seems to be proving more difficult than I thought. I thought there would be ringing endorsements from those on TV who have previously raved about The Sukhothai Residences, (but then again, judging by the number of lights on at night I don't think many people live there), The Met, Park Chidlom etc etc for the new category, and the usual suspects for the older category, such as Somkid Garden, Sathorn Park Place. But maybe the market is just too saturated.

Can anyone recommend the top 5-10:
1) new (under 5 years)
2) older (10 or more years)
condos in Bangkok, and why they think so.
My criteria for "top" quality includes:
1) good management (such as by Savills, CBRE etc)
2) no domination by a particular family/faction on the committee
3) well decorated, maintained
4) 20m swimming pool
5) easy access to transport, (taxis)
6) good views from high floors
Thanks.

I rented a service apartment there 10 years ago. It's a good enough property, but not "top drawer". That said, I was new to Thailand and did not know the alternatives then. Good swimming pools and gym facilities. It may have been revamped in the interim. As to being a "good investment", I think there is no such thing in the secondary market here.

This footage is of the Sathorn Narathiwas intersection, not Ratchaprasong.
That is not Sathorn Narathiwas, looks like Henri Dunant St at Siam Paragon.
You see the Standard Chartered Bank in the footage. That's on that intersection. It was taken in 2010, before the new bridge connecting the BTS Chongnonsi and the Bus station on the Narathiwas road.

Once again, lawlessness prevails and only red shirt law dominates the city.
"Red-shirt guards used barriers and trucked to block the both inbound and outbound Rajdamri Road for setting up a stage."
to be fair the Pitak Siam gathering was much more dangerous to the government and therefore Thailand, which meant the RTP had to do something 50,000 man strong with razorbladewire, teargas, etc., etc. This peaceful UDD led gathering is only effecting a commercial centre, nothing serious.
But why should they close down a commercial centre? Personally I don't partake of the national weekend hobby of mall visiting, but many do.

Return address, like anything addressed to Thailand can be in English. Passport Renewals have a special DHL deal rate. Use other methods, if you so wish. My renewal took 2 weeks exactly.

Yes, too obvious.
If you had said that on even dates you drive on the right and on odd dates you drive on the left, then it would have sounded perfectly logical and I would have believed it completely.
And on April 1 you drive in the klong.

I rarely use the MRT, so here's a good reason to reduce that overindulgence.

As I said Brasso is available and not expensive. "Brasso originated in the UK in 1905. Sold in most hardware and home improvement stores, it is used to clean silver, brass and bronze." Look at this website: http://www.ehow.com/how_6730571_clean-silver-brasso.html
Thanks. The blurb on the Brasso can doesn't mention silver:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brasso
but I note this website does.
Silvo was the silver polish I used in UK and elsewhere, but I've never seen it here.
But perhaps they're both pretty much the same.
The blurb on brasso is titled "How to clean silver with brasso", just checked it again?
Yes, I saw that, as in "but I note this website does".

I have "Silver Blue" silver cleaner, bought it in Bangkok but can't remember where! Made by Wongkamol - http://www.wongkamol.com/
Sounds like the business, but I need to know from where...!
Check their web site as above, if you contact them they will be able to tell you retailers stocking their products.
Thanks. I rang them and went to their office/store on 3rd floor Silom Galleria, and bought their spray. They have a whole product line, and are still developing it. But it will probably replace all other foreign brands in Thai supermarkets in due course, starting with the Central group.
I just tried the spray, but I think it's more suited to jewellery cleaning, and it didn't work particularly well on Georgian salts.

Low disk space on DATA D
in IT and Computers
Posted
Well, I went my HP support office and asked them to fix. They said they needed to re-install Windows as the Back up file should normally go into DATA D file, but it had been "lost". Anyway, they have now cleared the DATA D file, but informed me that because I didn't want to re-install Windows, I now have no Back up and Restore. The reason for not wanting to reinstall is that I would lose all the programmes that came when I bought the laptop 13 months ago etc etc.. They said I shouldn't have been backing up to DATA D, except, I haven't consciously, but it was presumably how the computer was set up. All a rather large pain in the posterior, as I have limited knowledge in these matters...obviously!
