  1. If these are assets that you had before the marrage she is not entitled to them. No worry. Only assets aquired during the marrage are divided. Which includes the assets that she has aquired. That whole list you just mentioned should be divided in half. With you getting half of what you spent back. Just be careful. Some greedy thai wifes do not like the idea of splitting their assets up during a divorce

  2. Locks only keep honest people honest. That said I have two suggestions for you. Got the door look for my house from a place called Ubon Wattsudo in Ubon Ratchatani. I have sliding wooden doors so not sure if that will help you. The other idea is to put a hasp on both doors and use a padlock

  3. So top goverment officals are admitting that they do not controll the island of Phuket and that the Mafia does. So they do what every politican does and that is to form a comittee to study the problem. So the first solution is to make all illegal taxis legal. That makes a lot of sense. So for all the legal taxis that are already there you are going to flood the market place with even more. I not saying that there are really any legitmate taxis but it sound like amnesty for all the law breakers. Nothing is every going to get done as long as they keep this problem only being reported in the english language newspaper. Untill it gets brought out in the Thai language news ( like they did for the jetski scammers of Pattya) it will only be a local problem. Untill then the BIB are either powerless to do anything because of higher influences or are part of the problem. But have them lose face to the general Thai population then maybe something will get done

  4. Dual priceing does happen in Hawaii. It is just not that blatant. It is called the kama'aina rate. Which is for locals with a state ID or drivers license. The whole point being to get the tourist to pay for the up keep of the tourist attraction. Most hotels and tourist attractions have a kama'aina rate. Thats on top of all the taxes that they charge that are geared towards tourists. Transient accomadation tax(hotel tax), rental car tax, etc.

Since coming to Thailand I have seen dual priceing that is both reasonable and some that is more than extreme. If it is something that I want to see and it is too extreme I will pay it once but thats it. I just will not visit it again.

  5. The wife has been complaining about how hight the price of land has gotten recently. She is looking for small plot to extend her farm. Farm land is starting at 100,000 per rai. And anything in town is around 500,000 per rai. Do not know if this trend is here to stay. There is a plot of land across from her grandfather that was purchased by a school teacher several years ago. 10 rai/500,000. Now it is for sale again and they want 1.5 mil for it. A number of people have looked at and said no way that it is too much and too far out in the sticks but they are holding firm on the price. Guess they do not want to sell it quickly.

  6. 1) Have a hot water heater that I will use when the the water is running. When the water is not running it is a cold shower from the bucket.

    2) Have both kinds.

    3) Sleep in a bed.

    4) I eat thai food but the wife tones it down a bit.

    5) Not really. Shorts and t-shirts.

    6) No, but I do go with my wife to the temple when she goes. It makes her happy and if she is happy then I am happy.

    7) Speak some thai.

    8) Mix well enough with family and friends.

    9) Washing Machine.

    10) Yes

    11) A/C only at night to sleep. Fans in the rest of the house

  7. Saw almost the same thing when I was in Korea in the 1980's. Only thing is that this guy thought it would be funny to throw a few won coins into the middle of a busy intersection and watch the kids chase them. Myself and a couple of army buddies did not think it was too funny and let him know. To take advantage of someone poverty for enertaiment is just wrong

  8. Today I had the village head lady (Pu Jai Baan) come by the house. She had a paper from the goverment telling her to find out the number of women that were married to foreigners in her village. Wanted to know where I was from and if we were legally married. Did not ask to see any documents. No other infomation as to why she was told to do this. She was just following orders. Did anyone else have this happen today. And does anyone know why.

  9. She has not used the property for 6 years. So she has no money invested in it. Tell her to default on the loan. Give the house back to the bank. Let the bank sell it to get their money back. Do not worry about it. And beware of the exhusband in the background.
