  4. Take antibiotics only if advised by a doctor, people take too many antibiotics; your body will build up a resistance to antibiotics and when you really need them, they will be about as effective as a packet of M&Ms

Buscopan is not a miracle drug but it will help with stomach cramps and discomfort. Please do not give yourself, or let any unqualified person give you, an intramuscular injection. Not very effective in the early stages of diarrhoea.

Most pharmacies stock ORS - oral rehydration salts - could be useful to keep a few packets at home or make your own. Two simple recipes - 300ml warm water, 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt (the warm water will help the salt and sugar to dissolve quicker), alternatively - one can of 7up, allow it to go flat and add a teaspoon of salt.

If symptoms persist over 24 hours - see a doctor.

    I must agree with you.

I have had at least 3 food poisoning incidents in Thailand - most of which were related to eating some sort of seafood. At one instance, I had to sleep one night at the hospital. Normally cramps are either felt at stomach or at the lower part of the stomach - bowl. I think there are 2 treatments depending where the pain, if any, is. Buscopan, Gastrimut, and electrolyte (after severe vommitting) have always helped me tremendously.

  5. i have been living and working in thailand for the last 3 years. have had my salary paid into the bankevery month. i want to know if, as a foreigner, i can apply for a personal loan with a bank. my b/friend is thai, but doesn;t have a monthly salary paid into his bank. can we apply together?

What's the purpose of the loan?

    to buy a jet ski.

Salary statements with a letter from your employer to prove the status of your job should help you get the loan. I don't think you should have a problem.

  7. Left our bag (which had my wife's wallet and our car registration book) on a minibus in Pattaya. A guy calls me later and tells me to meet the driver near a hotel so that he could give it back to us. He found my number by fiddling through the contents and finding an invoice from my mobile carrier. Gave him a couple of hundred baht as a small token of our appreciation.

  8. TAKE NOTE : 15 PERCENT TAX WILL BE DEDUCTED AT SOURCE UNLESS YOU ARE A THAI CO.

I thought that was tried and abandoned. 15 percent of what?

If I deposit 1 million baht in Bangkok Bank at their measly .75 of a percent interest, are you saying that they paid me interest minus 15 percent?

I am talking solely about an individual deposit account.

15% tax is deducted from the interest earned on your time deposit. If you deposit 1 million baht at 4% annual interest, then the tax withheld is 15% of 40,000 baht equal to 6000 baht.

Are you 100 percent certain of this? I had heard they tried this, but it had been yet another wannabe idea in LOs.

Have you experienced this for yourself on an individual account - not a business account?

I'm 100 percent certain. And Yes I have experienced it on my own individual account.

  10. But seriously I've been told think the reason for the 96.5 % thing is because if you had 100% pure gold the lack of minor impurities would leave the gold vunerable too fragile / erodable? A buddy explained that having something like 'ultra' pure would mean it would disintergrate over time. If it is slightly less pure the impurities actually strengthen the golds overall (Atomic) structure etc.

I believe all over the world its same. Or am I shooting wide of the mark here?

I was told the same thing. However, some of the previous posters were able to purchase 99.99% Gold bars.
Is there gold trading you can do where the gold just 'sits' and hangs out. You own the stuff but you don't have to worry about storing the stuff anywhere.

Or is it 'Buy this and it gets delivered to your doorstep deal??'

Taped to the drawer style... hmmm might try that.

A buddy in LA actually has a huge floor safe with everything chucked in it!

Wonder if you can get these in Thailand....

The initial place I was referring to in my original post is BullionVault (www.bullionvault.com). It is an online trading market where gold is stored in a vault of your choice: New York, London, or Zurich.

  11. I buy 5 baht and 10 baht gold bars (99.99%) in China Town. The shop is located on the one-way main road, the road that goes through the market on both sides. The name of the shop is 24 karat, look for the huge 24 sign above the shop. This is the only place I know of in Bangkok.

    -Orangutan

Thanks for that. Are the gold bars from 24K shop labeled 99.99%?
