  2. I'm sure there must be a number of bugs hidden somewhere. I have been using it for a week now and I personally enjoy the use of the feeds function. This can also be found in the previous and current edition of mozilla firefox. So if you are a firefox fan, you may also find most of the functionalities you are looking for including an Ad Filter.

Back to IE, it also has a phishing filter a well-organized tabbed browsing function. I'm not sure how many applications still do not support the use of IE 7. My company for example has still not fully decided to adopt IE7 because our current applications do not support its use - for some reason.

You could download it and demo its use. Microsoft has provided a way to uninstall it in case of any conflict with existing applications.

  3. I don't know if this issue relates to more to the ATM withdrawal limit or to the account's limit. I can for example set the withdrawal limit on my card using my overseas bank website. With regards to local bank in Thailand, for example, KBank, you can even change your withdrawal limit to 100K per day. You can do so by calling their 24 hour telephone support service.

  4. I have been a loyal subscriber to UBC broadcasting for the last 5 years. I did it because I had no other choice. I tried looking at other potential broadcasting companies but found their channels not even worth the low subscription fee.

About 3 months ago, I ended my subscription with UBC and demanded the 4000 baht deposit which I have paid 5 years ago. I only heard from them yesterday and they mentioned that it should take another 40 days or so to get deposit.

Now, they SUDDENLY and MOST SUPRISINGLY to many customers decide to stop airing MTV and VH1 though they had known this more than 6 months ago

    (please read: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2006/11/03...s_30017885.php).

Is there something going on here?

Are you happy with what UBC is offering? Do you think 1600 baht for a Gold package is worth the channels u r getting?

Just wanted to get your view on this.

  5. Shop around, all the banks have them, and the likes of ING are in the Thai market as well.

Basically, they are managed funds which can be used as a tax deduction, in the first year only. So the same rules apply, looking at your risk appetite and the make up of each of the funds.

As for what you can invest, it is up to 15% of your gross salary, with a maximum of 300,000K per year. So if your income is only 1million baht per year, the most you can invest is 150K. If your income is 5 million baht, then 300K is your maximum investment.

Remember, you have to invest in these things for a minimum of 5 calendar years, which in actual time, means approx 3 years (ie invest on 31 December 2006, and on 1st of Jan 2007 will counted as 1 year of that time elapsed already).

Redemption dates are usaully twice a year from what I've seen, 1 Jan and 1 July.

Thanks for the clarification on this Samran. Can a person buy a fraction of 100K? In other words, can u buy something like 280K or it always has to be incremented by 100K at one time?

Besides, do you have any recommendations as to which Investment company is preferrable given different factors involved such as reputation, experience, and dealership?

  6. I am considering buying an LTF in Thailand. I understand a person could buy up to 300K per year and declare upto 90K reduction in personal income tax for the first year. Does anyone have any ideas about how secure/risky this is? Do you have any recommendations as to what type of fund/business a person should consider especially in Thailand? Do you think Aberdeen is a good prospect?

  7. Is it just me, or is the cwc.co.th not loading for everyone else?

I am also sort of interested in towing/emergency service memberships in Thailand. If anyone has any links or suggestions.....

I think the link has been broken for some time. But anyway, I was able to get some forms that should help you with registration procedures and provide information related to the subscription.

I have not subscribed yet but will do so soon.

  8. Hi Folks,

I'm wondering if anybody has come across bread machines for sale in Bangkok. It's not something I've actively looked for before but I can't recall seeing them anywhere.

I've developed a passion for making my own bread lately in Canada and would like to continue in LOS.

Whole wheat and raisins is a fave.

    Thanks!

If you are looking for baking tools in Bangkok, I think one good place would be VERASU - right opposite the US embassy on Wireless Road. They have all kinds of baking equipment including bread makers which are currently on sale. They also sell bread mixes and other health products like organic flax seed.

  9. Hi guys,

I have been looking for a bread maker to help with the daily meals. I hail from Greece and bread with olive spread is a necessity for a daily snack.

I finally came across VERASU chain of shops in Thailand. They sell different types of baking tools including bread makers which are currently on sale. I bought three last week on Wireless Road (Wittayu). It is right opposite the US embassy. They are currently on sale at 4399 baht. They also sell a special bread mix for 80 baht. All you have to do is dump the bread mix into the bread maker and wait a couple of hours. After that you're ready to party. BTW, you can also enjoy their restaurant on the third floor. They have daily dishes suitable for each blood group.

  10. I don't know of any with an English Program where all subjects are taught in English, but most will have some subjects (English for tourism etc) and general English classes. If your student's problem is academic English, send him to a language school.

I don't think English is the main issue here. I have students whose English skills are way below his level but still can make it through the general courses. His problem is more related to trying to put together different concepts. He had been enrolled in an ESL program for more than 3 years but is still unable to pass the TOFEL. He could communicate way much better than the other Thai students but could never possibly pass the exam. I know this is strange.

IELTS sounds more appropriate as this tests his ability to use the language. TOEFL tests your knowledge of the language

I agree with you on that. My University has already shifted to adopting IELTS instead of TOEFL. It surely is taking the students a whole lot of time before they could be admitted to regular studies. Still when they get admitted and after they do pass IETLS, a few of them still have problems with English. However, the issue here is this guy can't do all of this. I need to get him into some kind of polytechnic school.

  12. Please check the following two articles for your reference. I think the problem would be with your currently installed version of OS. It could be you have Windows SP2 installed while the disc you are trying to use is only SP1. You will need to install the Recovery Console and from there proceed with your installation. This is the laborious process. Another would be to use a Windows SP2 disc to save time and frustrations.

  13. Hi guys,

I have been working as a chair of department and a lecturer at one of the international universities in Thailand. I have a student from Bangladesh who constantly had a problem with learning especially when it came to theoretical perspectives. The student, otherwise, is very skillful and extremely good with his hands. He could assemble/disassemble many electronic parts without any difficulty. However, when it comes to writing solutions to a theoretical exam paper, it would seem as if he had no idea what to write.

This student is not able to go back to Bangladesh for family reasons and is therefore forced to stay outside his homeland. I need to find some kind of 'vocational school' for him so that he would be able to learn and practice his skills and abilities. I think that at this stage, he doesn't have any special preference and is only looking for school/college that can accommodate him. I don't think he has any financial constaints and hence your suggestions are welcomed even if the school is located outside Thailand (except Bangladesh).

Please let me know if you are familiar with any school/college that focuses on practical professions mostly importantly using the English medium.

    Thanks for all your help.

  14. Thank you for that so does that mean you have to be working before you can get a residence permit?? :o

I cannot be certainly sure you have to be working. At least in my case (when I was there to check for the requirements) and many others I know about, they were constantly asking for the PO NGO DO 91 (PND91) for the last 3 years. I also checked Camerata's attached document (pinned topic--please check) and it seems similar to what I have been saying. Again, I'm not sure if there is any other way around this.

  15. I think the term 'best airlines' should refer to different areas including being an economical one. Singapore and Thai Alns have always been the most expensive in my list of travel fairs. Emirates have always offered cheaper tickets in my case.

  16. Hi guys,

I am wondering if you are aware of any Car Towing Service in Thailand. In my country, I could get package integrated with my first party insurance.

However, I tried doing that here but I think it is not yet possible. I heard there is a service known as 'Car world cup' or something similar but was unable to locate their address/weblink. Could anybody here assist with this?

Please note I'm trying to get a service that should be available in case the car has any minor problem that should let it stop moving. This doesn't have to relate to any car accident.

I have done some more research on this and found that "Car World Club: www.cwc.co.th" provide such services. I just thought I should put this down for those who may need it. If your car is betwee 0 and 9 years, the fee per year is 1990 baht. They will tow you wherever you may be in Thailand. If your car is between 9 and 15 years old, this will make the subscription 2990 baht.

  17. Just thought I should add some more to this. I have been here almost 6 years working in various provinces. I have been married to a Thai for about 3 years. The requirement for residence permit is a stay of at least 3 years while getting a salary of a minimum of 50,000 THB per month during this stay. This is to ensure you are paying taxes. Besides, if you have a child from your Thai spouse, this should reduce the amount to 35,000 THB per month. The application for residence will have to be sometimes in December and I believe it is somewhere around 7000-8000 baht. After which you will have to wait a minimum of a year to get a reply.

I also understand that once you get the residence permit, if you wish to leave the country on a business trip or whatever, you will have to pay around 6000 THB every year to do so. I think this will be done at the police station of your local district.

    I hope this helps.
