  1. Ok. Great. Didn't want to to register and they then say "oh, you've registered now so you will have to complete theory and practical" etc etc. You know what its like. Thanks again!
  2. Thanks mate. Thats what I was hoping. I only have CBT when it comes to bikes but raced MX for years as a kid. I just said any motorcycle when she asked. Big bike time! ????
  3. Thanks. Funds are currently in an ISA (tax free wrapper for non Brits) and tax was paid on earnings before deposited obviously. Just I read somewhere about having to wait until following tax year to not pay tax but I guess thats just on earnings from UK for example if you were working. I no longer have any income and will be living here on Thai marriage visa.
  4. Looking into this a bit more I am not sure why she has referred me to the dlt-elearning site to complete tests online when I have just read that I dont need to do theory or practical tests. Just the reaction, peripheral vision etc. Surely these will all be done in person. Dont want to register if its for the theory test in case they say I will just have to spend the 5 hours doing that now as I was misinformed. Anyone clarify what exactly the dlt-elearning.com website tests are for? Cheers.
  5. Thanks but I am not transferring to UK account as stated already.
  6. Thanks. Do you have a link to anything official to back that up?
  7. Will I be taxed on savings that I transfer from a UK account into a Thai account? I really think I need to seek some professional advice in this area. Can anyone recommend any firms here in Thailand or offer advice via DM for anyone with experience? Since Ive left the UK my UK bank has been pestering me to sign a CRS & FATCA also for HMRC. Thailand aren't even part of that from what I gather so dont see why they're asking me. Just want to make sure Im doing things right and staying within the law.
  8. Also, Ive been told the online test is a bit of a joke. Is there anything I need to do or should know before registering and doing it? Can you fail, if so what happens then? Been driving for over 25 years and have picked up some habits Im sure but cant be any worse than what I see on the roads here on a daily basis, surely.
  9. Went to swap my UK license yesterday for a Thai one. They were closing within a few hours so told me to do the test online instead, which I will. The thing was she was asking me about what bikes I could ride as she didn't understand the category classes at first. It would then seem I may need two licenses - one for car and one for bike. I asked if there was anyway I could just have it all on the one instead of carrying two licenses around with me everywhere but she didn't seem to understand me at all. Does anyone know if this will be possible? Cheers.
  10. This is great. Were looking to get off grid ourselves and I had no idea where to start. I seen a place selling PVCs at our local market but they seemed to be for water pumps when I was trying to ask about powering the home etc in my broken Thai. Anyone aware of a one stop shop online for purchasing said supplies and more importantly getting advice about whats right? We have every known device to man eating up power and AC is pretty much on most of the time so bills are big. Complete noob! TIA
  11. On a side note do thai banks have any issues depositing from foreign crypto exchanges, coinbase, Binance?
  12. Opened a Kasikorn in the end as it seemed the easiest of all. Less hoops etc. Its only to throw the £10k in for visa. Think it doesn't even pay 0.5%. May look at other/better options in future if needed or macro economic landscape improves. Thanks for the input anyway!
  13. Thanks for your reply. I thought as much. Mad how they send you in circles and you ask 4 people and get 4 different answers. Tires me out. Do you know if this legalising your degree certificate nonsense is true also?
  14. Thanks for your reply. Its crazy how it used to be more but they reduced it to protect the people. Makes no sense whatsoever.
  15. Yes. Whoever governs the compensation scheme in the likelihood of collapse etc. Hope thats clear. Cheers.
  16. If I'm on a non-o and then renew for thai marriage visa I will be insured and not just considered a tourist, right?
  17. Much appreciated but that would appear to be less. Be great if they had a headline figure instead of pages of rates. I suppose I will need to acclimatise myself to all the red tape again. Land of smiles (and pointless admin!) Thanks again.
  18. Take it the international drivers license is redundant now then so what docs are required to convert a full UK driving license to a Thai one?
  19. Brit soon to be returning to Thailand to live. From what I've gathered you're only now covered for up to 1 million baht on deposits, is that right? I know its pitiful but I've seen that SCB Jad tem offer 1% interest on deposits with them. Is there anything else that beats that currently? TIA
  20. Thanks. Why don't the Thai authorities seem to be aware of the fact then?
  21. Hi I am a Brit returning to Thailand to live this year with my Wife (Thai). I will be returning on a Non O visa that I wish to then extend on an annual basis. My query is can I get a work permit on a Non O visa? There seems to be a lot of talk about transferring to a non B but why would I give up a yearly renewable visa for a 3 month one? We used to live there 15 years ago and I worked as a Teacher for some time and was considering doing again part time for the social aspect. Older now and not really interested in the monotony of visa runs now. Looking for permanent settlement in the land of smiles! There was also talk about legalising degree which no one at consulate or embassy could clarify. Is this just for teaching in Bangkok or all over Thailand? Seems like just another palm grease to me and they couldn't even confirm whether it was an actual requirement or not. Is this something that depends on each school? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Tim P.S. Also, any recommendations for good long term expat Health insurance in Thailand? Thanks.
