It is a shame a lot of people try to de rail the conversation with suggestions of racism (maybe not this thread but heaps of others). I honestly find them to be rude, obnoxious and more often than not half naked. The middle class Thais I speak to despise them. In the past when I saw a new person or family move in I used to introduce myself and try to make small talk but it isn't honestly welcome. They don't seem to integrate at all and that will be a massive issue in the future. I feel like I am living in some kind of Russian colony.

I'm no expert. Something about blowing up women and children on a mad mans whim tells me that the Russian economy probably deserves to tank hard. For it to do otherwise is rather telling of mans nature.

Doubtful. Of the horde in my complex some seem to have money but many seem to battle. Plenty of them seem to be reliant on walking, cycling or motorcycling to get around. Well off people have the cash to buy cars, particularly in a tropical climate with a monsoon season. Of the cars I have seen few are high end but most are budget models. There have also been claims of Russian "touts" now. People trying to sling ping pong shows don't strike me as well educated. There appear to be a range of low, middle and high income earners which makes perfect sense given the situation.

Probably. But if they can take Taiwan I don't see why they wouldn't be able to take Thailand.

I don't follow the war too closely but anything I have seen indicates that Russia is really not doing well but still unlikely to give up. I don't see how this doesn't go bad for them. I would have thought Thailand allowing Russian travel and immigration when Vlad is trying to conscript people wouldn't have gone too well but apparently not. Maybe Vlad well get serious with some of his threats for the draft dodgers.

But don't most expats not employed here get paid in their home currency first and then transfer it to Baht? I guess in their case they go Rouble to dollar and dollar to Baht but if the rouble tanks they are still in trouble right? Or do you think most Russians have large lump sumps in USD?
-
Are the experts predicting a crash in the Rouble any time soon? I'm considering moving out of Phuket because of the horde. I am aware of others considering the same. It is a shame because I use facilities in Phuket that are not in other provinces or at least not to the same standard. Is it too much to hope for that the rouble will crash and that the Blyats and Svetlanas will just go away?

Guess I should look into security doors. A shame we can’t carry particular self defence items in this country.

Give it another 6 months. Desperate people will start to desperate things and that is when the real pushback will come. it won’t even come from whiny expats like me. It will be Thai people.

I’m sure they have legit work permits 555

My development goes from absolutely packed with Russians and red plated cars (Russian rental company stickers) everywhere to very quiet almost overnight. Its hard to tell who actually lives here and who is transient which is a big security risk. Far from ideal neighbours in my view. I did see police here the other day so perhaps some of them are not as sneaky as they think. I’m sure there are illegal sublets and car rentals going on. Someone may need to report unusual behaviour to immigration.

Swedes and Thais fight each other over traffic rule in Phuket

Cool story guy. Are we talking about Thailand or Sweden now? I find it very hard to believe that arabs and African immigrants or “refugees” are somehow more educated than actual Swedes. Maybe it is just me. -
I'm sure there are plenty of other areas in Thailand that they don't frequent. Russians and Chinese seem to be very similar in clustering around the same tourist areas and being a right old nuisance. With human rights records like theirs they should be confined to their own borders and heavily sanctioned. What a shame that a handful of Thai people at the top are making real money while allowing importation of illegal Russians and Chinese. If the Russian Mafia wasn't bad enough there are also more and more reports of Chinese Triads getting in on the action in Thailand.

Looks like more Arabs and Africans masquerading as Europeans because someone in the family got a "refugee" VISA. Regardless, I'd probably be upset if a local (who is likely unlicensed and uninsured) made up their own traffic rules and was yelling in my face.- 76 replies

No argument from me Comrade. People should be on an appropriate VISA or not be here at all. I know the demographic who will be whinging the most about it given the current situation Comrade.

I can speak and I'm literate which is apparently astonishing. 90% of foreigners seems to rely on nonsense Karaoke. English is the language of business and tourism. Plenty of Thais speak it. Russians generally don't speak either of the main languages spoken here and seem to think they dont need to.
-
I doubt immigration will for that reason but have foreigners came here in such prolific numbers all at once before? They have already distorted prices of things in Phuket. Digital gonads and other expats that find themselves priced out of areas like Phuket may leave but there is also the option of moving down a rung and displacing working class and lower middle income Thais. I don't know how feasible that is but I imagine it would go down absolutely splendidly with the Thais.

I have been told by one of the few Russians I know that this service is openly advertised on social media. I know from first hand experience that some language schools in Phuket are at their license limit and expanding to meet demand from the Orc horde. Some schools are also getting cold called by other "schools" looking to merge and access genuine schools student quota. Personally I hope that immigration come down hard on schools playing games.
