Which bikes and riders irritate you?
Dogsredrocket replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Even more reason to take charge of the lane and your space. Riding on the shoulder is for incompetents which is why the majority of Thais do it. They also undertake, ride on the wrong side of the road and ride unregistered and uninsured bikes. -
Oh fantastic! Surely the American vets on all the forums and facebook groups will be chomping at the bit to give us a run down on this and their involvement or lack thereof. Murricans love the opportunity to weave their service into a good yarn as if expats in Thailand care. This is genuine elder abuse. Joe should be comfortable in his own home <deleted>ting his britches instead of getting involved in such things.

Riding on the shoulder directly contradicts safe motorcycle riding practices taught in developed countries. It has nothing to do with road surface. The main reason is that it gives intersecting traffic less time to see you and you less time to react to incompetent or negligent drivers coming in perpendicular to you. Many expats here never learned to ride safely in their home country and it shows. Riding on the shoulder here in Thailand is even more dangerous because more times than not the shoulder ends with no warning, not to mention that Thai drivers can not corner within their own lane 9/10 times. The fact that many here believe riding on the shoulder is expected and even law is terrifying. -

The shoulder is not a lane and is an incredibly dangerous place to be. Any competent motorcyclist trained properly knows this. -
I eat at expat bars and restaurants in Phuket often enough. I hear a wide range of accents and in plenty of cases the accents are mixed in amongst groups. Just last night I heard British, American and Australian accents coming out of the group behind me. When I do volunteer work it is I similar situation. If you think English speaking expats don’t socialise with other nationalities you are showing your own ignorance.

If you want attention from tattooed Gopniks go right ahead.

Maybe, maybe not. I can assure you that is not the way things are done in my home country. I knew a lot of my neighbours and most people do.There are many benefits to knowing your neighbours. There is nothing strange about that. Strange is living somewhere long term and slinking around like a phantom not integrating with anyone other than your own kind. Even stranger that they chose to live like this after voluntarily moving abroad where people are...you know....different. Perhaps a precarious VISA or employment situation may be a contributing factor to their insular lifestyle. What are you even talking about Komrade? There is no such thing as Imperial English.

Who said anything about a beach or a pub? I'm talking about my so called neighbours. In most places around the world you make an effort to build a rapport with the neighbours and exchange courtesies. Russians only seem to do this with other Russians. This raises the question why not stay in mother Russia? everyone is just like you.

Oh I see Komrade. You are allowed to make sweeping, unflattering generalisations towards Thai women but the rest of us are not allowed to dish out the same towards botox filled, sour looking Russian women, something like that Komrade Menken? Never mind the fact that these working class women who don't speak Thai or English or have any legitimate marketable skill somehow managed to acquire a work permit and associated VISA in Thailand......Somehow I think most of these women fall under the category of "hostess" or "masseuse" or "model". You aren't even ashamed of it. I see recruitment ads all the time for this on Facebook.

90% or more fall into the category of; bar girl lady boy sugar baby (even though they try to hide it) Anyone thinking that they will find a good girl on Thai friendly is delusional. The vast majority of the talent there are on the job. I guess it is good if you want to find some fun but don't want to drag yourself out to the bar. Come to think of it, the categories above are probably relevant to 90% of the Thai women anywhere willing to slum it with a farang. Most women wanting to be with a Farang have financial incentives or have 0 chance of finding a decent Thai man. My favourite couples to observe when out and about are the pasty, frail looking men north of 70 with chubby little brown girls half their age. What riveting conversations must take place around the dinner table. Of course such men will always tell you the Mrs is a white collar professional with options 555.

I used to make an effort until the majority of them made it clear that they only speak to other Russians. The thais and other nationalities in my development all seem to get along and have a neighbourly rapport. The Russians seem committed to being thoroughly disliked due to their self imposed segregation and haughty demeanour.

Indonesian Immigration is looking into cancelling VISA on arrival for Russians. I suspect when things finally implode here immigration will do the same. Any Thai I speak to who isn't making bank off Russians despises them. How long will Thais put up with ethnic enclaves and ever growing grey economy that doesn't benefit them at all?

Beach near me is packed with Russians. Someone felt the need to pinch my ratty old sandals that I left as I walked my dog through the surf. Hardly the behaviour of well to do middle class that we are meant to believe comprise the majority of the horde. Anyone pushing that narrative always seems to have vested interests, REA, Visa agents etc. Send the gopniks back. Anything I hear, read or observe myself is overwhelmingly negative towards them. If they smiled occasionally and made an effort to integrate with other expats and Thais they would probably be better received.
