I see people on here talking about another coup like ordering a beer or coffee. Thailand has ruined itself with military coups yet idiots on here can't see and seem to relish this with glee. I've known Thailand since 2002 and lived there many times for many years (two coups). I've studied its true history and watched the forbidden movie. In my opinion Thailand could have been another Japan or South Korea but the military kept dragging the country down and backwards. I use the term military very loosely because through history they seem to surrender quicker than loading their rifles and the only people they can defeat are their own unarmed citizens. They are guns for hire and run like a mafia organisation. Mr T with all his faults was doing a good job progressing the country forward "education levels rising including English, GDP in double figures I think rising to 14%". A coup. Then his sister, OMG! She called an election for God sake an election she would have won but another coup! The country dragged back down. The election box is where the country will grow. The military and the elite had their own little coup at the last election and they placed the current pm into the job.

Report Thai PM Enforces Stringent Laws on Illegal Foreign Businesses
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What utter nonsense! -
Two points: 1. This will be another nail in the tourist and expat coffin! Who wants to go on a very expensive holiday or retier only to be spied on 24/7, buzzed by drones or be in a place that is so dangerous it requires you to be monitored. 2. Is Thailand so unsafe and dangerous now that you need to be recorded 24/7, have your own personal drones follow you? And I can just see the future "Drone tax to be collected at airports in cash only".

Report Thailand Chooses Swedish Gripen Jets Over US F-16s
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why? Because the USA refused to sell Thailand ther latest jets! I would imagine if and its a big IF Sweden agrees to sell its jets to Thai/China they will be stripped of all the latest tech first!!! Just remember the headlines "Thailand set to buy USA jets F16". Just to be told "No!" By the USA!!@- 50 replies

Report Thailand Tightens Grip on Retirement Visas Amid Wealth Shift
BritScot replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Some of the most moralistic people I have known have been poor and some of the most twisted, devious criminal people I have met were rich. Stop looking down on people because by default they are already much better than you!!! -
Report Thailand Tightens Grip on Retirement Visas Amid Wealth Shift
BritScot replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Did you live in Thailand during Priminister T? Because I did and life for expats and those of us working in Thailand was much easier and more laid back. I remember the coup and how things changed overnight. Before the coup the economy was great and we were looked after English levels in schools was far far higher than now. Then the coup and overnight Native English teachers were replaced with Philippine teachers. Expats started getting hounded. My pickup cost me only £11,000 and I was paid 44,000baht a month as a teacher beforethe coup, and that was 20 years ago. Vehicles were cheaper in Thailand than the UK but now buying a vehicle in Thailand is far more expensive than buying the Thai manufacturered vehicle in the uk.... the Taxin years were good years. -
Report Nightmare in Phuket: British Family's Pricey Villa Scam Uncovered
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Really! First, did you not read, booking.com kept £80 so never returned the whole amount and refused to compensate! Second. Taking children on holiday to Thailand, such a victorian view! We take our children on holiday with us to Thailand every year. I love seeing people pushing a pram obviously on holiday when walking in Krabi (our favourite holiday destination in Thailand), it gives a family atmosphere/vibe. -
Report Thaksin Rallies Behind Yingluck in Rice Case Drama

This is persecution! The scheme was just, it was the Thai elite who just could not help themselves and stole from the scheme. They are the ones who should be in prison and have their assets sold off. Did she profit financially from the scheme, NO! And that's what matters. All you people screaming for blood must also accept with your logic that if you save money for a rainy day and the bank clerk thieves your money you are the one who should be punished and not the clerk!!! -
Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Think your wrong there. I lived and banked in Thailand for years and found the banking system about 20 years behind the UK. Now live back in the UK, do all my banking including personal and business (including international) on my phone without any problems. Even taking a loan out is done in seconds. -
A few questions: where did this attack take place? Was her dog on her property and if not was it under control (we all know the answer to that). If the pitbulls were loose and not properly secured then they should be put down with no questions asked! Owners have duty of responsibility. So both could well be to blame and both should pay the price! Could have been a child!!!

Was told the generals wanted 40% when in power! Looks like bac to normal 30%. -
Watch! Land deal. Rice pledging scheme (remember Joseph and his technicolor coat) was sound but failed to take into account currupt Thais. How can she be held responsible for others who stole??? Maybe time for all Generals to be audited! Oh they can't do that as no one would do the job "bang, bang your dead". Audit the blimp, detectors and submarines or lack of!!!

I'm shocked that 13 years ago this wasn't all over Thai visa "13 year old girl pregnant by Swiss man". Maybe he could clarify her age or even her birth certificate should be provided. If he was having sex with a 13 year old and the proof is their daughter, why the hell wasn't that acted on. Now for this, he touched her leg and bum (christ I touch my daughters leg everytime she gets on her horse to adjust her saddle) as for the phone, and GPS tracker that is sensible parenting. If he is such a threat simple: walk away, cut all ties. I'm finding it hard to believe the story wasn't all over the news 16 years ago!!! -
Politics Court Thwarts Thaksin's Trump Meeting: No Qatar Trip Allowed
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
First if Mr T. wanted out of Thailand he would already be gone. As for the haters Sir Trump, who has made America the envy of the world, cleaning up corruption at a massive rate, putting his country first and doing it for FREE!!! Sir Trump can rescue us in GB any time please. I also think Thailand needs all the help it can. Just remember when Mr T. was Thailand's PM the countries GDP was 14%.- 17 replies

Report American Tourist Held in Phuket for ADHD Drug Possession
BritScot replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Yes! He walked to a rental shop handed over what was asked for and rode into the sunset! He was obviously wearing a helmet because that would be another charge!!! This stinks of Thai extortion! Poor kid. So many kids now have this ADHD! Yet authorities do nothing to find out why! Anyway, I hope this shakedown goes viral!!! -
I think it may be you that is talking dribble! I built a house in Thailand (still own it and have my little yellow property book) and as my late Father in law reminded to my wife! "He built the house, he paid for the house so its his house, not yours"! I never had to sign anything and there was a paper trail for every screw, nail and tile etc I purchased. When you build a house, the house is yours the problem is the land it sits on. There is nothing stopping you from knocking it down. The amount of idiots I've come across who put every last thing in their new wife's name. Cars, motorbikes etc. Oh it was just easier!!! Grown ass men can be so stupid sometimes.
