  1. Just for info.: when we painted ours, the total cost was around 50k which included 45 gallons of roof paint. We recently tried to shift a couple of tiles because we needed external access but the paint had glued them in place, it was impossible.
  2. Thanks! I subsequently found a bunch of bribery and corruption cases involving the authorities, all the op had to do was to google the subject but he's either in denial or is simply being bloody minded..
  3. We're daytime people not night time so all our meals out usually comprise lunch. That can be anything from a food court in a mall to a good quality independent restaurant, typically 200 baht to 1,200 for two times about 20 days per month, in the North.
  4. Looks like an inflatable to me.
  5. I know of no bars or adult entertainments at either of those locations, whatever were you thinking!
  6. I've lived here for 21 years and I haven't seen one either, but I'd bet the farm there has been plenty. And I know you will find this odd but the criteria for whether a prosecution exists or not has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not it's ever been on the news!!!
  7. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck......!
  8. I don't doubt that is true but I can't imagine any scenario where I would feel obliged to do that.
  9. You mean you're not ready to agree with me. If you don't get that bribery and corruption is a crime, we have nothing to debate, you are plain and simple in denial.
  10. Only the scale and nature of the crime has changed, it's still crime. "helping" using bribery and corruption. I suspect I'm calling your kid ugly, sorry, but that's what it is.
  11. The following is not very reassuring: https://www.wrlife.net/pdf_files/PARTICIPATIVE POLICY ENGLISH.pdf
  12. Lots of folks want to wiggle and slip slide on this and using broad vagueness doesn't help either. In its basic form, giving money to another person in order to influence their opinion, judgement or action is bribery and corruption. It doesn't change anything if this is the East, West of the Middle, it doesn't change anything if there are cultural differences and it doesn't change anything if culture frequently influences legal decisions. There is no need for greater clarity, but there is a need for lots of people to stop trying to argue that black is green and white is pink, no matter how much they would like it to be so because it helps them justify their crime. Just because there is distance between the buyer and seller of services, aka an agent, doesn't make mean the buyer can claim total innocence or ignorance of the law and the service they are buying, they are a party to the crime. Neither is the buyer entitled to question whether the law actually intended something different, not everyone can be a judge these days! Nor are buyers of the service able to imply that all I/O's have discretion on their own authority, that's nothing more than clutching at straws in order to justify their actions. Give it up, it is what it is. And if it wasn't, all those senior Immi officers who are currently under investigation would be pleading exactly the same case that many posters here are, I exercised my discretion, there is no case to answer.
  13. Even if I/O's did have legal discretion, which on their own authority they almost certainly don't, influencing that discretion buy offering a financial incentive is bribery and corruption in any profession, in any country.
  14. Robbery and murder are also accepted practices, I suppose those things are not illegal either!
  15. The natural choice for stations or jumping off points would of course be, Walking Street, Mikes Mall, Soi 7/8, Soi 6 and I suppose that's about it really.
  16. "just as long as", and there's the rub! Fluctuating exchange rates, bank errors, bank holidays in a month, human error, it's great as long as works well and as expected but it's a major calamity when it doesn't.
  17. I don't know how it is possible for you to deem another posters observations as pure speculation and ignorance but for what it's worth those observations are mine also. I don't personally know anyone who uses the illegal approach but I know of many on this forum who have said they do. It's a huge money business, as the recent crack down has shown, I can't think of any other aspect of Immi. that has such potential for illegal wealth creation. You know that must be true when so many dodgy agents are involved in the business.
  18. Not to dwell too long on this point but my bank (UOB) tells me it's not possible to update a book for a fixed deposit. Each fix is uniquely numbered, an addition to the account would be a new fix, partial withdrawals are not allowed, interest is calculated at the end of the fix.
  19. I don't even have to do the update, the fix is for one year and still has three months to run, by the time I extend my visa. The entry in the book shows the deposit and as long as there's no withdrawal, the deposit is still good.
  20. As said previously, any good dentist can make one for you, it takes about a week and the last one I had made cost 2,000 baht,
  21. I think a better approach is to take the 400k (if married) and lock it away in a fixed deposit and forget about it. Every year you can roll out the bank book to show Immigration before putting it back into the desk drawer.
  22. I may be wrong in my approach but I've never believed that the total cholesterol number was that useful and I rarely is ever pay attention to it, I always look for the details of what is contained in the number. My rule of thumb is: HDL is the good cholesterol, the higher the better LDL is the bad cholesterol, the lower the better but less than 70 is important to me. Triglycerides is fat, the lower the better, this one is just as dangerous if not more so than straight LDL, my target is 100. VLDL is the really dangerous one and is 70% triglyceride (or fat) and is not normally measured as part of a standard lipids panel. I work on the basis that if I can control Triglycerides (fat) I can influence the LDL numbers lower and certainly control VLDL. I have a cardiac stent and take statins. Using a combination of diet, exercise and statins I've reduced my LDL from over 160 to 55 and TG's from 170 to 110. I had to look it up and it seems my total cholesterol is 136
  23. And do you really suppose that all bank branch staff understand the nomenclature and the difference between the two things! For goodness sake, if there's confusion on these pages, what do you think the story is in the branches with 20 something year old tellers who barely speak or read English..
  24. More likely there will be a penalty if it is found that the bank provided banking services to anyone who didn't have the right stamps in their passport (you see how I cunningly avoided having to use the V word or the EOPTS words). :))
  25. Let's not have the debate about terminology, please. Shorthand for visa extension or extension of permission to stay, is visa. Of course for some people it will indeed be visa and that is the word that will have been used to describe all of this to branch staff. But for old timers it will be extension of permission to stay which we will hereinafter call plain old visa.
