Bank and passport check
nigelforbes replied to Mino's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
What happens if the visa is not valid? I was told by branch staff that they would not be able to serve me. Of course, that doesn't prevent ATM use or online but I don't know about closing the account.. -
We painted ours two years ago and it's still perfect, we went from dark brown to very light grey. The roof has to be pressure washed first and then two coats of paint applied, ideally a primer coat will be applied first. We used Synotex roof paint. BTW, the lighter color paint cut down on heat inside the house by a huge amount, we almost never use air con in the hot season and the house is actually cold during the winter months.

Double glazing for sound reduction in a Bangkok Condo.
nigelforbes replied to Aussieroaming's topic in DIY Forum
I changed all the single pane glass to double glazed units in a 150 square meter, 16th floor condo in CM and it did almost nothing to reduce external noise - the units and the glass were from Thai Asahi, professional sourced and installed. The problem is two fold: the first is that sound reduction requires optimally spaced triple glazing, double glazing is only really useful for thermal protection and heat reduction. Fortunately, my primary objective was heat reduction. The second problem is the way sound travels in concrete buildings which often amplify noise. -

I wrote to my banks CEO on this point and asked him, does your bank have a policy of inspecting all foreign passports, to ensure the account holder has a current visa because this is what your branch staff have told me. He didn't reply but the letter was acknowledged, this in itself was unusual because he did respond on the two previous times I wrote to the bank (in 10 years). The branch manager did call me however and apologized that I had not received good service from her staff so I asked her. She explained that common practice is that all visa's are checked. I no longer use that bank account although it remains open, subsequently I opened an account with another bank and was told in very plain and straight forward English that I would need to produce my passport for every transaction, even updates to a bank book, and that my visa would be checked every time. The bank even has several PC printed signs displayed in front of each teller station saying foreigners require their passport for every transaction. -

These are not as a result of KYC, this is purely an Immi. issue. There's plenty of opportunity to confirm KYC when the account is opened, the visa checks are ongoing for one purpose only, to make sure the customer is in Thailand legally on a valid unexpired visa. -
Colder weather forecast for most of Thailand for next four days
nigelforbes replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A brisk 14 degrees in north Chiang Mai currently, nippy indeed. -
Here's part of the answer: during the first 6/7 months of 2022: "Approximately 5 million Thai tourists and over 40,000 foreign tourists visited the province, generating a total of 17,442 million baht in tourism revenue. The revenue generated was split into 17 billion baht from Thai tourists and 400 million baht from foreign tourists". https://www.huahintoday.com/local-news/heres-how-many-tourists-visited-prachuap-khiri-khan-from-jan-jul-2022/ A poster recently was trying to suggest that domestic tourism in Thailand amounts to very little, because nobody has any money and because of the covid lockdown and the ailing economy. Really?

British woman breaks nearly every bone in face in Thailand
nigelforbes replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
It's a sad story of course but many people who come here don't understand how dangerous the roads are and expect that similar rules of the road apply here as back home. I live off a main road that runs from Chiang Mai to Pai and also to the Mae Sa Valley, I see younger western tourists and western hitchhikers almost every day. I have to shake my head at the way they drive, very few drive defensively or even cautiously, they might as well be in the Cote d'Azur as far as driving style is concerned. Not too many try to emulate local bike riders but many do try to compete with cars and trucks for space and aren't afraid of blocking the fast lane. I did chat with two young Dutch guys on this point when we both arrived at the petrol station together. Their thinking was that driving aggressively was the better way to go and was safer for them because they believed the locals would give way.- 276 replies

Did you know that if you can get your LDL below 70, statins effectively suck the LDL out of existing blockages and shrinks them, only marginally but there is a reduction. My cardio told me back in 2007 that there was no such thing as draino for the arteries that would unblock them, time has shown that is not 100% correct any longer.

Watch out for the cocky Chavs...
nigelforbes replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Southern woofters never were very good at that sort of stuff, all Benidorm and sarf end. You'd need two or three Yorkshire men to do the job properly, or ten to fifteen Lancashire folk, which ever is at hand. -
URGENT - VAT SCAM at large - advice please . . . .
nigelforbes replied to TorquayFan's topic in General Topics
The account number by itself is not an issue, lots of people hand out their account number for valid reasons, eg to get paid.
