  1. I'm not defending anybody because I don't know the truth behind either story, however....

Why do men all over the globe get named publicly before a verdict has been given? The old saying, mud sticks, is never truer than in cases like these. By all means name and shame after a guilty verdict is passed but if you are innocent and you get accused of any sexual crime your life is pretty much over. People will forever remember you for a crime you didn't commit.

Not saying he's innocent at all but there should be laws that give protection to a person's identity before a court has heard the evidence presented.

  2. If this happened in the UK, can you imagine how much coverage the BBC would give to stories like this? Busses crashing with passengers killed, exposed electric cables electrocuting the public, 40 odd people dead in a day on the roads etc etc etc...the daily list goes on and on regarding atrocities that happen all over Thailand.

Sadly, it's just a part of life here. A story in the daily news that will be forgotten soon after and replaced by another equally preventable and tragic event. 15 years living here and nothing changes.

The recent thread on feeling safe living here addressed how it felt to walk around at night in Isaan. Ask how safe people feel in regards to Thailand's road safety standards and it would be a different argument. Very sad.

Drove up to Nakhon Phanom on Friday. Left at 2am and the traffic was already heavy. Very heavy around Korat as usual and didn't abate until well after Khon Kaen. Took 11 hours total. 3 or so hours longer than a normal trip, but not the longest ever.

Flew back late yesterday. Going in the opposite direction to most people, so flight was cheap.

One thing that did occur to me was that I didn't see a single accident on the 11 hour drive. On previous drives I'm seen several each time.

Oddly enough I experienced the best two journeys to and from Isaan this month. Left at 06.30 on the 16th, returned same time on the 26th. I know they're not the busiest days but literally no traffic, no police stops at all.

I took the older route, no tolls, from Chonburi to KK. Bit slower but lovely scenic driving.

Sadly there will be a lot less returning.

Yep. It's like one of those BBC great migration films. Many make the trip with casualties along the way.

About 10 years ago, I made the mistake of journeying through the mountainous range near Korat, when it was 2 lanes. It was carnage. It took an eternity to get across, mainly due to impatient idiots making 2 lanes into 4. Plenty of vehicles ended up in ditches or collisions. My trip was in the Songkran holiday but much the same as this.

Why is this considered news, and why is it considered bad news, and why is the biggest joke involved?

It just sounds like Chinese men looking for Thai women, people from all over the world look for Thai women. Are Chinese men worse than others? What's the issue here, I thought that Thailand was supposedly in love with China?

    Absolutely.

Was happy when Domino's announced they were coming to TH, as one I frequented near Memphis airport on way to/from work was decent.

Sadly the one I tested out here/Khlong San, was terrible, and never sampled another.

I've been eating it in Thailand for 3 years. Never had a bad one. 220bt for a large pepperoni is unbeatable. Not authenticate Italian pizza granted but vfm.

So how do you propose to weed out the "Male" abusers? background checks only work if they already have a history.

I agree that it won't stop the problem, nothing will ever stop opportunism with this filth. They keep evolving and getting wise to child protection measures.

I think the checks certainly prevent reoffending and that is a large chunk of the current system. It certainly would be a good start to addressing the problem.

"The People’s Safety Foundation has made an appeal to the government".

This "Foundation" should me made aware that the 'Thai people' are very happy with the way things are here.

And that they will fight against any attempts for changes.

And the Thai people will win.

    Compulsory wearing of helmets: 'No'.

    Speed limits: 'No'.

    Stopping at red lights: 'No'

Stop illegally using a phone while driving: 'No'

Stop illegally crossing over double lines on the roads' 'No"

Respecting double lines on the roads: 'No'.

Stop illegally passing cars on the roads: 'No'

    Stop driving against traffic: 'No'.

The main problem is that people here do not have fear on the roads. None. So what would be the reason for any changes.

Passengers on motorbikes, are totally oblivious to the way the drivers go at high speed zigzagging between vehicles. They show absolutely no fear, eyes looking straight down on their mobiles, trying to get the latest gossip on their favorite site...

But then, I suppose that this Foundation has to emit some kind of narrative, to justify its existence...

Families of four or five on a motorscooter "Yes"

When I see parents riding with their kids on a motorbike without putting a helmet on them it says it all. Doesn't matter what they're told, they won't listen, won't change. They seem to enjoy the challenge of dodging rules rather than upholding them even at the cost of their own children.

Wherever you're from, what possible reason can there be for risking smashing your kid's skull to pieces rather than putting a helmet on? Put a facemask on but no helmet.

I get the whole give me strength to accept what I can't change thing but when it comes to seeing the kids being part of the risk it's never acceptable.

Same news/story as every year, I personally think it comes down to a combination of the following to improve road safety and lower road deaths.

    1) Police to do their jobs and enforce the traffic laws, Thailand has around 210,000 thousand police officers.

    2) Heavy fines for all people not wearing a helmet on a bike including paasengers, take bikes away until fine paid.

    3) Increase speeding fines, not 500 baht but 5,000 baht for speeding, take cars and vans away until paid.

    4) Ensure there is correct training on how to drive a car before they get a license.

    5) Ensure the police stop any car, van, truck that drives badley on the roads (crossing yellow lines etc)

The other thought I had the other day is the amount of money the goverment would collect if the police did their job and enforced the lawm the only way people learn is by hitting them in the pocket .

Am sure this is just a dream, not much chance it will happen.

    Agreed for all.

Add the most important one, self-responsibility. Even if there were no cops, cameras or enforcement people with half a brain wouldn't drive drunk, or speed in the way Thai drivers do. All these measures year upon year doesn't change their behaviour. They shouldn't need to be encouraged to drive safely.

Can't fix stupid. Especially when you add selfishness to the mix.

We still need some luck to stay there, I am just happy we are guaranteed entertaining football this season.

Luck in terms of injuries and suspensions. That 1 Chelsea game cost us 4 players, 3 points and possibly 9 more following the game.

What I like about us this year is despite the horrific injuries and suspensions, we've not panicked and made the most of a very threadbare, average second string. With Madison, VDV, Romero and a few good signings in January we should be optimistic about mid to late January onwards.

Cosy fre....and a fan! Love it

Up here in Isaan it's freezing, well not quite but cold. Bobble hats and puffer jacket for mother in law. Even I have socks and slippers on❄️

I was there for the cold snap too. Certainly cool at night but a welcome break from this year's heat.

    Sadly, won't last long though.

    No. I'm not.

I'm commenting on an open forum.

Well, I'll leave the post to others.

In summary, in my own experience I feel safe living in Isan. I don't fear locals or natives that I've encountered. Living in Isan is favourable to other areas I've lived in, both in Thailand and the UK.

If I were to worry about anything it would be driving or building faults such as electrical wiring etc.

How can you say  "young English men pose more threat of violence than any other nationality. Again, based only on my experience." without comparing?

You say yourself your point is based on life in UK. No comparison means the use of superlatives or comparaives is meaningless.

I replied in regards to young Englishmen, British or whatever you want to say, posing more of a threat to me whilst living in England. You're actually jumping in on a debate I'm having with another member about my own experiences of crime in the UK.

When asked if I'd I experienced it I replied yes. In England, by such young males, whilst walking home at night.

You've actually tried to assume I was talking about immigrants just now.

Best part of all old chum...how do you know my ethnicity anyway? Or are we to assume that you've judged that already? How do you know if I'm English, or an immigrant or black, Asian?

I expressed an opinion based upon my general experiences of living in both England and Isan, and Thailand as a whole.

Instead of telling me what I should have said why not just tell people your own opinion or experience?

You could easily have said that you've experienced violence in Isan rather than pestering other people's posts.

Just go back to my original post. All I suggested is " in some places in Uk". That is it.

I dont need to step up to anything. I've never denied it happens. You made that bit up.

And my point all along has been that I've never felt threatened  on the streets in Isan. Never, not once. It happens in isolated cases that people are quoting but I personally feel no threat.

In the UK, London, whatever, I have felt threatened, I do feel threatened at times and I don't see it as a safe country to live in.

Just asking because, on other threads, some posters believe it's the immigrants causing the problems.

Have you ever been to a football match in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria or Turkey?

Judging by your remarks regarding young British males, I would guess not.

Have in fact, but not enough to talk about them, which is what my argument is based upon.

My opinion is on British culture as I have experience of that.

Are you now saying that it doesn't happen?

I don't get the immigrant bit nor other European countries. My point is based upon life in the UK.

    You are doing it again.

"In the UK" then giving certain areas of London as the only example.

I've only lived in London and the south.

Tell me other UK towns are different. I haven't because I'm basing it on experience. You need to step up and categorically say....it doesn't happen. I have said it does. Shared my experiences in the areas I've lived in. So have you!!!

It's what the question asked!!! Is it based on my experience!  Read it!! Get the specs on. They ask if my post is based on my own experience to which I replied it did, and in the area I've lived in.

Why on God's earth would I say it happened in Moss Side, or Liverpool or anywhere else?
