  1. I'm thinking its not a huge menu item for Thais. With the economy slowing lots of foreign products will probably ordered intermittently if reordered at all. My wife enjoys cream in her coffee but whole milk perfectly ok with her. Cream is expensive and a quart spoils before it's gone usually.
  2. Same in US. I know someone who works for ICE. Adds democratic voters for Dems and cheap labor supply for Republicans. Joe Whiteman loses out. At least Thailand seems to care for the moment about it's sovereignty
  3. Funny. The news of these sorts of things wouldn't even make it out of a local precinct in the west. Here you have high ranking police congratulating themselves publicly for doing their jobs.
  4. Does the computer POST / boot? Is he certain the drive is dead? My experience is data recovery is expensive, time consuming and doesn't work. For what it's worth I back up all my stuff to external and in my laptop keep the data on D. Happy hunting
  5. Unless you're stupid enough to drive in Bangkok this will have minor impact on us city folk. Perhaps the BTS MRT will be a bit more crowded. If your on foot in lower Sukhumvit I doubt it will be of any notice at all.
  6. If I had that sort of money I would be waiting for the US RE bubble to burst and looking at coastal property in US - Florida. Property here is still 30-50% overpriced. Even with the US X rate around 38 it's barely an incentive. The only positive thing I can think of is lack of property taxes. But in the end it will never happen, be too much hassle to maintain or have the rug pulled out like last time in the 00s. Remember? Of course not ????
  7. Much of it is jetlag I'm guessing. Probably the other part is avoiding the heat. It's not as though 90% of the men over 35yo entering the country are visiting national parks, beaches and temples ????
  8. Most countries regulate hours of when, where and under what terms alcohol is sold as well as closing hours of niteclubs.
  9. Guess he didn't here the US is in recession. Canada lol. Russia probably has higher numbers.
  10. Which modern, civilized and developed country closes schools for half week and the dead center of its capital CBD for a conference? This dog and pony show could happen in dozens of US cities and the locals would barely notice. It's a fail before it's even started. As for the locals, workers - let them eat cake.
  11. There has been a lot of great information here. As single, unmarried and presumably past 65yo I think it quite unwise. Not only that there are few options. One thing I'd like to point out is that when you pass it will become absolute hell for your sister to turn that home into cash in a year. She'll lose it all anyway. I can't see any benefit to owning. I would lease something and given your age and vagaries of living here for no more than 3-5 years doubly so if this is Pattaya or upcountry
  12. Having just returned from US, we visited NYC for a few days. Trader Joe's in dead center Manhattan had some reasonable import 6pax of beer for us5.99, that's 38b per beer - up from 34b per beer. Another comparison would be the cost of a beer as percentage of a bogan standard workers wage. So, b50+ / b450 day. Even at say 550 pd it's a whopping ten percent of a laborers daily wage. Fairly objective, odd you even had to ask.
  13. 1 Alcohol is expensive 2 Price of beer is ridiculous 3 The taxes are outrageous 4 I think low end whiskey not bottled in Scotland even big brands suspect, 50/50 with grain spirits. No longer drink it 5 Lao Khao should be illegal 6 Thai spirits should be 40%. Anti free market. Welcome to planet Thailand. ASEAN, APEC lol.
  14. Seems primarily directed at the Chinese and RTP. Seems Chinese pushed their luck. I have it on good authority RTP searching for a number of Chinese individuals.
  15. At the airport yes, absolutely. Rather stupid to lose your boarding pass going through any immigration point. Just create potential headaches for yourself but on a long flight I'm certain many go missing. The IO notes the flight and it is important later for a variety of further scribbling in police paperwork. Extensions, never. Normally I don't keep mine but thought it prudent as Thailand has fixation on paper. I'll include with extension paperwork just to avoid the gotcha. Of course, they will reject the photocopy. Next year I won't include it and they will send me home to get one. Something like that.
  16. I am of the opinion that foreigners holding O visas as well as long term B visa holders should be allowed to use an auto gate. It will probably happen the only question is when. All other classes they are well within rights to let them stand in line as well as give them a brief line of questioning. You can bet the Chinese are going to be heavily scrutinized.
  17. I returned with my wife late October in early hours of the morning. The farang channel was backed up a bit but nothing concerning. We took the Thai channel. Processed promptly, customs was breezy as well. Immigration has total control over the process. They know flights and inbound passengers and can schedule staff accordingly. I expect as a foreigner not with my wife to be processed in less than thirty minutes. After that it's a total fail
  18. Yup, they did done away with the arrival departure card. Any feedback / advice how this impacts online and in person 90 day reports? Especially the non O (marriage) extension. thank you in advance
