  1. Perhaps. As we are both working I think we spend less than retired folk. We are happy to lay about on weekends, certainly no need to go out weekdays. Single men out all the time. My lunches are free and wife wife gets all sorts of free stuff at work. I took the job as something to do but parlayed it into serious income and saving. But we have no time. Rather, we take big holidays three times a year.
  2. I spend about 22.5pm. Wife spends about 12k. Sushi out every 3 weeks, steaks in every two weeks. I cover our expenses and mine. Just living - no medical, holidays. But two nts out boozing and 4L vodka, 1L bourbon.
  3. I could easily live on 50k pm as well as my wife - In central BKK
  4. Some guys don't need much. Booze, whores and a bedsit. They eat the same tripe daily. No medical insurance. I'm not saying this about your pal but if you want a Thai lifestyle it pretty much costs the same as Thailand.
  5. Yes, see in the link? K11. But that's just sensationalist rubbish. Notorious child brothel ... spare me. The NGOs got hold of this and made the place into a monster it never was. You could find the same underage girls in practically any Viet brothel IN Phnom Penh.
  6. No matter what is said here, no matter what regulations are cited I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are charged. I've been going to nps for 25 years. I pay at my favorite park despite being married, having O visa, having work permit, going to park for 20 years and often /and stay weeks.
  7. Probably K11 It's reputation was probably worse than what it actually was but I won't say it was unearned. Pretty much everywhere has / had younger teens. That's what desperation and poverty breed.
  8. Cambodia is not cheaper than Thailand for the vast majority of ferrrrang. The only things that are less expensive is barhopping, booze by bottle and hookers. Getting a place you like, running ac all day night, eating ferrrrang food all meals, hookers. Then you have the costs of getting out...ya gotta get out. So, that means holidays in Thailand, Vietnam at the least. Imagine visas are still a mere formality. Don't get sick. Finally, if you are prone to alcoholism even if you never considered it. The time on ones hands, cheap booze... Or, drugs. There's no one there to catch you. I mean, there's no one here but there's absolutely NO ONE. You'll die in a room and be a sentence in the Cambodia Daily.
  9. It's a silly, stupid video made by an unserious man. I lived in Cambodia off and on 92-96. It was wild and it was a party. What drove me out was the grinding poverty and the intractable corruption and anti-democratic one party system in which they make little bones about killing adversaries. At some part you're party to it. It's obviously much better but this guy's Cambodia is not the one that I fell in love with. Siem Reap. The temples are destroyed looking at pictures and the experience a far away dream. Siem Reap is hot, dusty and dry. I will say though if you're ok with issarn and you don't need a beach it could hold possibilities for you. I think PNH probably nothing I'd remember. Finally, with no healthcare I'd imagine STDs, HIV through the roof. Many of the old crowd I'd heard some three or four guys I knew at the time did die of HIV. It's also long since (97) magnet for pedos. Expect a shake down returning to home country or even Thailand on occassion PS single malt, great bourbons, wines insanely cheap.
  10. When I lived there on/off from 00-08 I'd spend a few nights a week around walking or soi 6. Other than that I was completely divorced from tourists. Despite living dead center of the hell myself, friends had special paths and walk ways to get about the town on foot and avoid all the drama. It was like it never existed for us. From Beach Rd to Pattaya tai to N Pattaya Rd and out to Sukhumvit all on the back streets.
  11. Because it's a boring, backward hellscape every Thai living there wants to avoid? Any Thai not living there see you as completely daft.
  12. Holiday = lost weekend in Hat Yai pubs drinking alcohol and banging hookers.
  13. The funny thing is that liberalizing and strengthening condo laws would do far more at bringing long term expats in than this wild eyed scheme ever could. The only rich people that would come here are exactly the kinds you don't want. Case in point news items about Chinese over past two weeks.
  14. Me too. I'd done it many times by 2nd class fan sleeper. It was an easy runner back in the day. I think around 2010 things got tight as there was lots of monkey business, fake stamps, bad guys, perfect storm. Things became a hassle. By then I was done with it. Crossing Sadao is really easy overland. By train you need to wait in discomfort quite a long time I recall. Just go to Penang and take a break, get some good food.
  15. You expect every person that has a cop hassle, shakedown to report it here? Maybe front page of BKK Post? Why don't you find some cops and fire up a spliff?
  16. I'd guess if while on a tourist visa a person got busted with any amount of weed or even had it in their system they'd be up for some fines and lots of hassles.
  17. This is a typical way trusts can be set up and operate. ???? You must run with some big wolves ????
  18. So, two grams of weed or a bottle of decent scotch hmmmm. 700b a gram?! I've not smoked weed in years. Isn't it like 350oz in California??
  19. This really seems to me to be the best and most sensible route. High profile, possibly uniformed Any issues the cops will sort themselves out. Surprised this is even a question unless op knows nothing of Thailand.
  20. After my last trip to States I have now scuppered any delusion I'd had about returning. The bridge is already 60% toast. I'll be burning the remainder in the next few years. You can always go home but you can never go back.
  21. Do you have a water softener? I doubt she had one here but I'm just thinking aloud. Doubt it's shampoo or conditioner probably better in UK. Stress?? Wife had some hair fall and started talking vitamins. She'd said she's no longer losing hair. Maybe it's the cold or she's brushing it wet in the cold? Blow dryers set on hot are very damaging. No idea what so ever.
  22. I inherited a lovely old Omega. The case, dial and crystal are perfect. Needs a full service and may need parts. I want to avoid the bill at Swatch. Anyone have a competent local guy? The watch has five complications. The crown is stuck and day/date is funky. The only person I know is the guy in Fortune Town. I've looked a bit on Internet but nothing much. Central Bangkok. Thank you
