  1. Phanaeng rocks, but the one in the photo has runny sauce, and looks more like gaeng. Thick sauce is a must.
  2. Pretty (oops, sexism!) much any word in the English language is fair game for the woke radicals. They move the goalposts all the time to disorientate us.
  3. While still appearing to be aligned with the US, Thailand will likely move closer to the emerging Chinese superpower and its satellites, including Russia, as this interesting academic study shows. A_World_Divided.pdf
  4. Starbucks has all but withdrawn from Australia, except for a couple of outlets in the tourist areas. The local coffee is great, and cafés in Oz also sell decent food, unlike the vile offerings at Starbucks.
  5. Agreed. And I'm originally British.
  6. There are other payment systems like China's UnionPay that work in both Thailand and Russia.
  7. At least they've stopped Thailand becoming like the West, so don't be too hard on them.
  8. Pheu Thai gets elected. Yellow shirts on the streets calling foul. Coup. Welcome back Prayuth. Rinse and repeat.
  9. I think that's a thing of the past. The press these days reports news as if all the articles were written by the same person.
  10. Maybe it's you? I've worked with lots of Russians - they're decent people in the main, they work hard and are generally intelligent. Sure, they might not be as emotional and gushing as some westerners, but that's not a bad thing.
  11. He did. He asked members of this internet forum for their first hand opinions. That's what forums are for.
  12. Exactly, nobody on the outside knows what's going on inside a marriage. She could be a saint, or a dragon. He might be a charlatan, or a man at his wits end who has tried his hardest to make the marriage work and doesn't know how to end it without losing everything.
  13. Right. The rain puts the fires out.
  14. It depends whom you know and how much you pay.
  15. "Voluntary service" sounds like joining the army.
  16. It's a term of endearment, which is perfectly acceptable in certain informal situations. Thankfully, most Thais don't suffer from the woke mind virus, so wouldn't understand that whole microaggression oppressor/ oppressed Marxist ideological poison that's so common in the west.
  17. What if you get an involuntary hard on? Very embarrassing.
  18. Oh dearie me. Just pop a few cold ones in your fridge and watch a film or two.
  19. They couldn't care less though, so my 'two visits to get it done' rule still applies. Getting upset with them might push this our to three or four visits, they'll play with you until you remember your manners.
  20. I've always found that two visits are necessary when dealing with Thai bureaucracy: the first to find out what you need, and; the second to submit your application in accordance with the nuances of the day. Getting upset with officials, while tempting, usually results in even more running around and scrutiny.
  21. The UN makes various proclamations about this and that, but nobody takes any notice, and the veto wielding permanent members are now sworn enemies. It's a nice gravy train for all its staff and hangers-on, but nothing more.
  22. True, but the jury is out on ganja. It affects some people badly, after all. Time will tell it's overall affect on Thailand, now that so many people are using.
